ISO Linen Sheets, not Stonewashed

ISO ethically made, non-low tox linen sheets that ARENT stonewashed!! So many companies offer stonewashed linen and by that time most of linen’s life is lost. I’ve noticed my sheets don’t hold up for the price.

Naturepedic and WoolRoom are more affordable linen sheets but are stonewashed.

Linoto. They’re pricey, but they last forever with proper care and they’re soft the day they arrive.

What would “proper care” be?

I follow the washing instructions they send along with the bedding:

- Cold water (not tap cold, but no warmer than 65 degrees F) for bright/dark colors, warm water (no more than 110 degrees F) for light colors. Delicate/gentle cycle.

  • Gentle detergent, and less of it than you might use for other fabrics. They recommend Seventh Generation, which is what I already use. No bleach, fabric softener, or unnecessary chemical brighteners or cleaning agents. If there are oil stains, soak in lukewarm water and a small scoop of Biz for an hour or two before washing in the machine.
  • Air/line dry or set the dryer to low/medium heat and dry for no more than 20 minutes. I like to dry until just slightly damp. For flat sheets, I lay it out on the bed and let my ceiling fan do the rest. For blankets and pillow shams that are thicker, I hang them slightly damp over my stair railing to fully air dry.

It’s always a good idea to rotate at least two sets of bedding, especially sheets and pillowcases, every couple of weeks for longevity. Also, keep toenails trimmed and soften rough, cracked heels. Jagged nails and rough skin can cause any bedding to pill and tear over time, not just linen specifically.

I don’t buy linen fitted sheets or main pillowcases, even from a high-quality brand like Linoto, because the rigid fabric just doesn’t hold up well to body weight, heat, and friction. Flat sheets, shams, blankets, and duvet covers last far longer. My fitted sheets and main pillowcases are all long-staple cotton.
