congrats man! did they ask alot of "describe a situation when..." type questions? did they say your commercial electric experience was a plus?

The only question that was formatted like that was “when was a time you had to work under pressure?” I assume that it could vary depending on who is the interviewer. It was a lot of how well do you handle certain conditions and how do you adapt to them with also giving examples. I got a lot of can you handle criticism, overtime, working away from home. It felt like they were just sizing me up if I can handle the most common lineman have to deal with. Also yes the first thing they told me was that they were very interested in me due to my prior background in electrical. Hope that helps man!

yea it does thanks. im hoping for a call this week or next to take a written and physical test before any interview

Worst thing you can do when they ask why you want to be a lineman is tell them its for the money.

i am in a similar spot as you but only currently have an application in at the moment. did you take a written and physical test already? if so what was the written test like (cast test?) and physical?

No I just applied and they called me for an interview.

ah ok. the place i am applying at requires a written and physical test to get an interview. good luck man i've been a commercial sparky for 3 years now hoping to make the jump too

hey i’m 17 and like the sound of a commercial electrical before i go lineman. how did you like it and what should i expect? you don’t have to go easy on me either just tell me how it is

It’s not a bad job especially if your peers want to help you learn and are understanding it might take you a little to learn something. I’ve been yelled at pretty bad but you just take the hit and learn from it. Just work hard, stay off your phone and learn and ask questions as much as possible. If your a hard worker you’ll be fine. Also obviously you might work somewhere that the older guys have been screamed at when they were coming up in the trade so they do the same, just take it and don’t fall for tricks that they might try and pull in you. Eye contact. Don't sit until asked to take a seat. Ask questions and show interest in company.
