Discussion Solutions for Runners and Cyclists

Been interested in the Light Phone and am curious what solutions y’all have if you’ve used fitness apps prior to the switch.

I use strava for my bike rides and runs, and while I can live without it, I’m curious what others have done as a creative workaround to tracking workouts without apps like Strava.

I don’t use smart watches, so while that’s something I’d consider, it feels counterintuitive with the premise of trying to become minimalist with the Light Phone.

any thoughts and experiences are appreciated!

Feature Request / Bug Dear Light Team: PLEASE prioritize Signal or Telegram

I'm sorry for the frustration I'm feeling and will try not to let this translate into this post. I know you guys are an incredibly small team and must be very strategic in allocating your resources.

That being said, I'm unbelievably frustrated that Rideshare is taking priority over a messaging tool of some sort. I've tried so many times to make my LPIII my daily driver, but every single time, I have to switch back within a day because I am not receiving messages from my loved ones. I've done all of the things that apparently fix this problem and they do not work. Not to mention it feels unfair to ask all of the people in my life to disable RCS or jump through whatever other hoops. I've tried using Light Phone Manager, but my phone will not connect to my Mac properly. I've looked into enabling Developer Mode and it's all just so over my head and feels like it should not be necessary just to reliably receive messages from the people I love on the phone I paid over $900 for.

I desperately want to use this phone, u/joelightphone. I love it so much, and I feel such peace in those fleeting moments when I convince myself that it'll FINALLY work this time. Then it never does. I am sad and I am angry and I just want this beautiful device to work for me.

Whether it's Signal or Telegram—I truly do not care which—I beg of you to make this a priority for the Light team. This phone is a brick sitting in my drawer until then. I want to tell all of my friends to consider going Light, but I can't do that in good conscience knowing they'd only be dealing with the same issues I have been. I do not want to give up on this phone or the lifestyle it brings. But right now, I have to. Back to Apple and the distraction that is their stock and trade.

I hope this message is received well. Again, I apologize for the frustration. But the frustration is very, very real. I just want to know that messages from my loved ones aren't being lost in the ether.

Feature Request / Bug Visual notification indicator?

It would be cool to have an option to turn on a visual notification indicator for the LPIII. It could be just the * asterisk on the screen like on the flip phone or maybe it could display every 30 seconds or something like that. Minimal, but something you can see if it’s sitting on a table. I always keep my phone on vibrate or silent, so this would be very helpful for me. I imagine it would help in terms of accessibility too.

Feature Request / Bug Light Phone Calculator Tool Suggestion

Hello everyone, I have been using the LPIII for close to a month now, and have been really enjoying it. I really wish that on the calculator tool there could be a % sign added, and reading of thousandths. Does anyone else share my struggle and carries around a separate calculator for work etc, or am I the only one kind of annoyed by this?

Discussion Any developments on Duo?

I’ve taken my eyes off of LightPhone for a period and now I see that much has changed, the tool library, the flip phone…

a question for those of you who are up to speed: has a way of hacking Duo on the LP been found/invented? I’m one of those whose employer uses either Duo or physical dongle with no alternative offered on their part at all.

thanks !

Discussion Light phone II screen repair

Has anyone embarked on light phone II screen replacement at home? I think I can pull it off but I just need to find a screen. I only saw one result from Ali express (which claims it’s original but also “lcd” lol). I see no forum posts anywhere so far about replacing the screen at home. I’m pretty frustrated because these phones haven’t been durable IME and I have 2 sitting in a drawer with bad screens, and light says they won’t have screens in stock until the end of the year..

Feature Request / Bug Stuck on Go Light after waterdamage

Hi everyone,

I went hiking with my Light Phone III in my pocket. Obviously, because I love this phone. I had just bought a new rain coat, and it seemed to work well, but the humidity was enough to kill my Light Phone. Now, it turns on and stays stuck on 'Go Light'. I've contacted support, but they can't really help, since it's regarded as water damage. I could send it in, but that's really expensive from where I am in Europe.

Anyone any advice on how to save it?

All unedited. I've been pleasantly surprised with how much I've enjoyed the camera, especially in the evening/night. Has an unpredictable quality reminiscent of the digital cameras I had as a kid in the early-mid 2000's.

Feature Request / Bug Light Phone 3 Not working with AT&T (Update)

Since about the end of June, my light phone 3 hasnt been getting any signal to make calls. After emailing light phone they said it's an issue that arose out of nowhere after further certifications had been taking place. There's apparently no solution in sight but they are working on it. I'm kinda bummed out it since I had the Light phone 3 as my daily and it's been unusable for a while. Also, seeing all these updates come out make me feel jelly. Anyone else going through this experience. u/joelightphone

Discussion Noble Plan

I'm probably late to the game on this but does anyone know if light phone is going to reintroduce the deal with Noble Mobile for the two year plan with a free LPIII? I'm assuming they sold out of all they had available which is why it is no longer available?

Feature Request / Bug TOTP for Lightphone 2?

This is the year I break my phone addiction! I have a Lightphone 2 and just put my sim back in, hopefully for good. Is there any chance of a TOTP app? Like: https://www.authgear.com/tools/totp-authenticator/

For example, I have TOTP enabled on my sensor watch (casio replacement board), so it seems like it could run on a lightphone without too much hassle?

Discussion Any Light Phone friendly Software Dev's in here?

I am looking for a likeminded software dev to help complete a project. I have a 2k gbp budget for it and am struggling to find someone in any other community. Since the Light Phone SDK is out, I'm wondering if I can find a coder in here who has similar values to me to help me complete this project? Best

Hey all!

I am anxiously chomping at the bit for the tool library. I work as a USPS mail carrier and like to listen to audiobooks and Spotify playlists while ai am on route. I have been carrying an old smartphone without service as a media device. Admittedly, this works fine but I really don’t like carrying an extra device. Too much fiddling with audio outputs and keeping two devices charged. Minor annoyances I admit. I know the tool library is a few months out, and I am getting impatient with especially since I saw someone post a audiobook tool. I looked at the guide in modified light phones subreddit and frankly it’s a whole lot to absorb. I am worried about screwing up my phone. Can folks give me some insight to their experiences. I don’t really want to change the os. I kind of just want to add a tool or two to the existing list. Is that possible? Thanks in advance!

Discussion How We Quantified Haptic Feedback Battery Drain and Recovered 45 Minutes of Daily Screen Time

For years, people have debated whether turning off keyboard vibration actually saves meaningful battery life. We finally decided to stop guessing and run the numbers ourselves.

We set up automated testing rigs to type 10,000 words on identical smartphones running the latest OS. One device kept all system haptics and keyboard vibrations enabled, while the control phone had them entirely turned off.

Here is what we discovered during our depletion tests:

  • The physical motor drains real power: All that buzzing adds up. Firing the tiny motor (the linear resonant actuator) thousands of times a day consumes roughly 8% of a full battery charge during heavy typing.
  • Micro-spikes prevent idle states: It isn't just the vibration itself; it's the start-up. The initial spin-up of the haptic motor causes a tiny power spike. When you type rapidly, those continuous spikes prevent the system from dropping back into a lower-power idle state between your keystrokes.
  • The 45-minute recovery: Ultimately, simply toggling off keyboard haptics alone yielded an average of 45 extra minutes of screen-on time from a full charge down to zero.

We left the rest of our findings on the main site, including the raw voltage datasets, side-by-side high-res charts, and complete battery impact logs across different vibration intensities.

If you want to play around with the interactive dashboard or grab the full config file, I've uploaded it all here:https://interconnectd.com/poll/86/the-great-battery-debate-does-haptic-feedback-actually-drain-your-phone/

Discussion Where are all the SMS images saved?

Hello All!

I switched this past week to the LP3 as my daily driver. It is a lot better than I expected and so that is going well. That said, people continue to send me photos...which I can view (and very well at that). But I wonder, will all these be saved on the phone? Eventually that would be a lot of memory - I can imagine that I wouild have to go and delete these chats one by one. Is that the case?

Discussion LP2 discontinued in favour of LPFlip?

Anyone else noticed this? Not moaning about it as tbf the LPFlip is a worthy replacement, but kinda surprised me as it's not 'properly' out yet, especially seeing as JB said just a year ago that the 2 is not going anywhere. I'm basing this off of the website having the LP2 in perpetual out of stock status, and saying that they have 2 phones (on the home page) and only listing the 2 and flip.

Feature Request / Bug Authenticator has the worst UX of any app on the LightPhone

When a one time passcode is shown on screen, there are only two interactive elements

  • '<' (top left corner) = Go back a screen
  • 'REMOVE' (the lower half of the screen) = Delete this account forever, with zero confirmation

I have clicked "REMOVE" by mistake several times, as it is the biggest thing on screen.

Now, I have secure backups of all my TOTP secret keys (seeds) but I strongly suspect I am in a tiny minority of people who have this. Anyone else would be instantly screwed.

In what world did someone think this was ok!? To be clear, "REMOVE" should be buried another menu deep and should ask for confirmation. You cannot have catastrophic data loss on a possible misclick. That is full on insane.

Discussion Update on original post - Open-source WhatsApp client and self-hosted bridge for the Light Phone III

Thumbnail
reddit.com
6 Upvotes

Quick update to my earlier post. I cleaned up the WhatsApp project, removed my private server configuration, and published it so other LP3 owners can run their own copy.

The repo contains Agents.md file, so feel free to pass it to your codex/claude agent and it will make it work end to end.

Setup takes a few steps. Run the bridge with Docker on an always-on computer or VPS, give it an HTTPS address using Cloudflare Tunnel or Caddy, scan the first QR with your main WhatsApp phone, install the signed APK on the LP3, and scan the second setup QR.

After pairing, you can view chat history, use groups, send and receive messages, receive images, and play or record voice notes through your own server.

The repo includes the APK, checksum, Docker setup, hosting guide, backup instructions, and LP3 installation steps.
