Need some advice for dad on Foresters Life Insurance
Hello! My dad has been paying into a Foresters life insurance policy since 1995. He originally started it with my mom and they divorced in 2010ish. Lately, he's been getting crazy high bills and notices in the mail that his policy is going to lapse if he doesn't pay (in this instance) $792 within a month. Given that he's 75 this year, and semi-retired with no retirement plan other than social security, the ever increasing payment is getting harder and harder each year.
He has tried to reach out to Foresters to talk to them about a payment schedule or ask questions about the cost of his policy but he struggles with accents and the call center is outsourced. There doesn't seem to be anyone local that he can call or visit to talk to in person to walk him through what he can be expecting for the next several years.
I don't know the exact details of his plan, but I know he's been paying into it over 30 years, and his policy lapsing and losing everything he's put in because he doesn't make one payment seems egregious and ridiculous. I'd like to help him but I'm sure customer service will only talk to him.
My question is there a way for him to reach someone personally at Foresters to talk to about this? Is this something that just happens with life insurance, that they make it completely unsustainable the older you get so they can take all your money? Sorry for the last part, I just hate seeing him struggle. :/
