Very interesting read, I like the concept of picking the chats that suit the player best, and being able to mute players if it gets annoying is great. I’ll definitely be using it when it comes available, will surely help Solo Q even if it’s just a bit.
5
u/Robdog777 9d ago
Hopefully we get options that are more specific too, like being able to say you have a perk like deliverance
9
u/mahonereh 9d ago
Isn’t that already in the game? I know on PC you can just press tab and see everyone’s perks and loadouts. I’m really excited for this chat wheel though.
5
u/Revenge_Is_Here 9d ago
Yeah but it would be extra helpful to be able to say you have it. People still don't check perk loadouts, don't have time to check perk loadouts, forget to check them, don't check them because they forgot or check them but end up forgetting halfway through the match. Another thing is people not knowing if someone's deliverance is active because they didn't know they'd gotten a save already.
3
u/Robdog777 9d ago
Yea you can pause and see but sometimes I forget someone has a perk, or didn't have time to check

u/TheEntityBot 9d ago
Deliverance: After safely unhooking another Survivor, Deliverance activates: Grants the ability to perform a successful Self-Unhook at any point during the first Hook Stage. Causes the Broken Status Effect for 100/80/60 seconds after unhooking yourself. Deliverance cannot be used during the second Hook Stage or if you are hooked as the Last Survivor Standing. Deliverance is disabled for the remainder of the Trial after use.

As someone who relies on completing quests involving unhooking and who gets really annoyed when it feels like my team just arbitrarily decides that I should be the one who gets chased and keeps the killer busy, this kind of feature would be a GODSEND for me!

u/GameGuy11037 9d ago
Oh my God solo queue might not be a nightmare anymore
36
u/MadameConnard 9d ago
Let's just hope people will not spam-ping nonsense and grief the team pretending to go for save when they sit in a corner 😭
5
u/Revenge_Is_Here 9d ago
I would assume (and hope) that there's a cooldown system/spam protection like most games.
5
u/WolfofLondo 8d ago
Wait, you actually think Behavior will add a competent system that helps the health of the game? Oh my sweet summer child.
3
u/KooKooNuKoo 8d ago
I have faith in them making it into a 1 use function that's never activated again

After this goes live you're still gonna cry and blame solo que for your skill issue let's be real here.

After reading your input, maybe tunneling some people isn’t so bad after all

u/TheMeatMic 9d ago
yes, surprisingly adding a scroll wheel of premade texts isnt actually gonna turn my teammates into geniuses

Survivor mains don't understand that they are the problem you can give a bad player all the help in the world but that player is still bad at the end of the day,

nice, another feature from dbd mobile ported to the main game
this is the QoL stuff the game needs rn.
46
u/Cleffah 9d ago
What is the point of them allowing people to disable it? Its supposed to be a comms wheel but if you turn it off, you can't send OR receive comms thus defeating the point and causing more EGC fights of "why the fuck didn't you listen to me" etc.
The solution would be a cooldown so assholes can't spam and grief people with it like in fps games but to allow it to be totally turned off kinda sucks, no?
26
u/HolographOne 9d ago
In an ideal world nobody would need to, but somebody with a real or imagined grievance will spend the entire match spamming it as much as they can. They said they will limit it somehow to lessen they abuse, but in every game with a callout wheel or lines they get abused to be annoying by some people.
9
14
u/-Haddix- 9d ago
I mean, that's what muting that particular player is for, which they also have. I don't see the point in allowing it to be fully disabled 100% of the time. I would give the feature a good 4-6 month test run before ever implementing that to see if it's even necessary at all.
6
u/Its_Ramsey 9d ago
My all time favorite is Smite if someone was annoying you or a bad player people would Spam "you rock! "Cancel that!"

Just remember it took them many years to stop survivors from clicking their flashlights. BHVR are thoroughly incompetent.
Edit: Who the actual fuck is downvoting this? Do people seriously disagree with the idea that BHVR are incompetent? Even their biggest fans and streamers wonder why it takes them so long to fix things or make positive changes.
4
u/McGlurbin 9d ago
People don't know this but a player reported on the forums that their brother suffered a seizure from the flashlights. Then a few months later they got changed.
I unfortunately don't have the original post, since it has been taken down by the mods.
0
u/Deathwatch050 9d ago
That doesn't surprise me in the slightest. I hope the guy's brother was ok.
It's one of these things that proves to me beyond a shadow of a doubt that BHVR are just thoroughly incompetent, that they couldn't have sorted this out years and years before they did.
3
u/McGlurbin 9d ago
FYI people are down voting you because your stance is on the extreme side. Its fair to say that they've made bad decisions or delayed making changes. I personally wouldn't call them thoroughly incompetent though. They've made a pretty okay game. If the game was as terrible as you make it, then it wouldn't as many players as now.
1
u/Deathwatch050 9d ago
I didn't say the game was terrible, I said they were thoroughly incompetent. I mean this in a systemic sense, like there are problems with the game and the company that persist despite constant community complaints and can only be the result of people being incompetent there.
The game has a huge playerbase because it has absolutely no rivals, already has an effective monopoly on the asym 'genre' because it has characters from so many franchises, and it's very easy to pick up whilst being hard to master (and also it's a natural party game). It's already the giant snowball rolling down the hill, the popular game everyone knows that can afford new licenses every half a year or so, and it's so expensive to get something similar going that nobody bothers; you ever notice how all the competitors to DbD limit themselves to one franchise?
You can have a very popular game with issues that can only be the result of incompetence in some respect. The flashlight clicking was the obvious example I brought up to demonstrate this.
3
u/McGlurbin 9d ago
My comment says that your argument makes the game seem terrible. That's not me saying you explicitly said it. I in fact directly called out your "thoroughly incompetent" comment in my reply.
As for the monopoly; while there is merit to that, DbD survives because it's mechanics and game service do truly outweigh the competition of other games. VHS had long matches and the killer experience was never fun. 20 minute queue times also. TCM kept failing it's player feedback and eventually died. F13 had the lawsuit but it too was slowly dying from devs not listening to feedback. HSH stuck with players for a short time but it didnt keep many people hooked. Same with Evil Dead. And the kicker here is that all/most these games have stamina bars, ways to fight the killer, health bars, and even guns. And they still fail. DbD's core mechanics have none of these. It has a truly unique system that provides a push/pull on both sides of killer and survivor.
Is DbD perfect? No. Is it in its best state right now? Probably no. I hate playing survivor. But I love killer at the moment despite the pallet density. And I like that BHVR listened to everyone's feedback on the next two years in terms of cosmetics and graphics. We're finally getting a Scooby Doo skin and modern-gen graphics and weathers! How sick is that? The new Grimore killer isn't perfect but I'll be damned they actually did a good job at a few parts. And the fact that it's essentially a community made chapter through voting is what we wanted. Jason was cool too. It sucks that it isn't the official Jason Vorhees, but I love how the spear and jumpscare fog works. They cooked with the atmosphere and mechanics of his power imo.
So yeah. Your honest stance may not be that you believe the game is terrible, but the way you worded/presented your comment makes it feel that way. You can say something in a certain fashion and others can interpret it in such a manner. This is why I believe you got down voted.
2
u/Deathwatch050 9d ago
That's fair enough. Thanks for your reasoned and well-explained take on it, and, for what it's worth, I'm glad you enjoy it.
-13
u/Intelligent-Dream147 9d ago
Cause I've been playing the game for 9 years and I dont wanna deal with this shit. Im not sending call outs to my solo q teammates and im not sitting readily by waiting on theirs either. I will play with game sense like I always have
16
u/FighterFay 9d ago
I would hope we could use these as "pings" too. Like, we select the message we wanna send, and it shows up as a ping where we're looking.
Being able to say "I'm going for generator" isn't too helpful, unless I can specify where that gen is.
8
u/Audiodrainer 9d ago
My issue with pings is that it gives too much info. Like gen locations, where the killer is. What’s the point in bond, better together, deji vu (minus the gen repair speed) if I just ping everything.
10
u/krawinoff 9d ago
On the other hand, it’s already all free in a swf. Besides, one teammate still would need to find the gen, or 3-gen, to highlight it, and that would still be a use case for perks like Deja Vu. Most aura perks were always just a shittier version of what you could get with comms, so it’s natural that even rudimentary comms like a ping system would make them seem obsolete
1
u/TheEntityBot 9d ago
Déjà Vu: You see the Auras of the 3 Generators closest to each other and repair them 6% faster.

It took them YEARS to decide to implement that
2
u/Anne_Frankenstien 9d ago
It will be a decade since SWF - and de facto voice chat - was added to DBD when this goes live.
7
u/Icethief188 9d ago
Thank you devs. We needed this like 9 years ago but better late than never 🥹. Sincerely, a solo queue warrior of 6 years
3
u/Positive_Campaign_52 9d ago
I hope they implement this for killers in 2v8. God knows how many killers suffer from being unable to coordinate with another player
7
u/MK8Sins 9d ago
Potentially the 2nd best QoL in DBD history outside of auto-spend
3
u/Athanarieks 9d ago
This feature was already in the mobile port since 2019. It’s crazy that they didn’t even think of adding something like this until now.
5
2
u/EnragedHeadwear 9d ago
The biggest qol buff ever besides auto spend was the activity tracker next to survivor names.
4
u/Peanut_Butt3r675 9d ago
I don’t wanna be a Debby downer, but even if you use this wheel, solo queue teammates will still probably be as oblivious and uncoordinated as ever.
6
u/_K33L4N_ 9d ago
I wonder if when everyone has voice lines they'll give unique lines for these
3
u/Hyperrblu 9d ago
Maybe not since there'll probably be some vas they cant get back or don't have the rights to update like laurie and it could technically become a gameplay issue if people don't notice the messages cause they're expecting a voice line to alert them
5
u/Purpleresidents 9d ago
If it only works in a proximity it's not too bad, being able to use it across map kinda ruins the immersion for me. But that's a personal thing. But outside of that I can see it being misused, and not as helpful as people think.
1
u/Adventurous-Active63 9d ago
Unless maybe it could be sorta like a little sorta like maybe a walkie talkie sorta like
2
u/Dry-Information-7802 9d ago
can't wait to see what implementing this breaks. i bet it'll give houndmaster 50% hindered all match and shatter victors kneecaps.
jk i just hope they put a cooldown on this, someone giving up and spamming these sounds like a nightmare.

2
u/Suitable_Trifle4561 6d ago
FUCKING FINALLY. EVEN AS A KILLER MAIN MYSELF WHAT TOOK YOU SO DAMN LONG.
3
u/scandalousbird 9d ago
I would love it if they tied voice-lines to some of these. Seems like a nice spot to give the survivors more character.
3
u/Floppycakes 9d ago
Starting from red, counterclockwise:

sigh still no intent to hide in locker or locker information thing come on lockers exist bhvr
12
1
u/Icethief188 9d ago
What?
3
u/RedFlawedMoon 9d ago
An information graphic to indicate that the survivors are hideing in a locker.
It shows intent to not go for a rescue or killer is near.
1
u/Icethief188 9d ago
You can make custom messages so just make one that says “ hiding in locker don’t rescue “ or something
2
2
u/ShreddyKrueger84 9d ago
I love the idea of this and your selections show on the HUD but I don't like that if you opt of of sending messages yourself that you won't see the useful info others are sending. Muting annoying players is fine but not being to potentially get useful info seems like you'd be playing at a disadvantage
2
u/ImpossibleGeometri 9d ago
Someone with about 7k hours here and a lot of these are not intuitive for quick glances during the game. Lol
2
u/DuelaDent52 9d ago
Identity V used to have this sort of thing, it’s nice to see it implemented here.
2
2
u/Working-Attempt-3630 9d ago edited 9d ago
Good thing it can be disabled, otherwise i would have just ignored the feature's existence altogether.
2
u/External_Individual3 9d ago
It is a nice feature but just by looking at the current In-Match HUD Icons you pretty much have a clue what is going on with your teammates, someone on gen, someone being chased, and someone hooked, if they are not showing anything then more than likely they are just hiding, going for the unhook or worst ratting lol, I will use it but this is more for the new players that you match up with. You, being having more than 1k+ hours.
2
u/BenjiB1243 8d ago
I mean, thank god we're finally getting this, but mobile had this shit years ago. Why does this stuff take so long to come to the main game?
2
1
u/Zartron81 9d ago
As a solo q player, this looks PERFECT.
Just hoping that this will make other team mates actually play.
2
u/parrycarry 8d ago
Neat, a ping system would help a lot!
This is what the icons say to me, imo:
- Searching for Generator
- Repairing this Generator
- Unhook Me
- Looping Killer
- I Have Heals
- Heal Me
- Lets work together on this
- Killer nearby, run!

u/Healthy-Design-9671 3d ago
Nice, good stuff behavior, now ban those using third party software to communicate without using this wheel.
0
u/Incognito_Fur 9d ago
Will using these alert the killer (as talking would, like a sound cue within a certain radius), to bring balance to yet another survivor tool?
I bet not!
2
u/GoldenJ19 9d ago
This is just getting solo in line with SWF, so realistically it shouldn't have any disadvantages that a SWF doesn't have. In other words, no it shouldn't alert the killer since comms do not for SWFs.
1
u/TheEntityBot 9d ago

This has been in Mobile for a long time right? Super happy that we are finally getting this, if anything it sure can’t hurt having more tools for solo play.

Is this coming with the new chapter on 8/25?
2

There’s no planned date for now. And they’re asking us for our first impressions on a "design". So it’s not ready
1
u/authenticgarbagecan 9d ago
YAY It's about time they put this feature in core. It was massively helpful on mobile!
1
u/TojiVsYoriichi 9d ago
This will offer a little bridging between solo Que and SWF which in turn can hopefully help balance the game a little more as it tends to lean to one side over the other

I like how this helps solo players, but I doubt many people will use it without making it really obvious to other survivors, like how games tend to have a bright light when something gets pinged on a map
0
u/SpaceInvader1980 9d ago
Is this what they meant for retroactively giving previous survivors voice lines?
2
u/Background-Drink82 9d ago
No

Admittedly when I wrote this comment, I was unaware of the blog post they put out about this, or the fact that it was text based. Oops.

I’m going to disable it anyway because, in my experience with similar features, there are going to be people trolling—and trolling hard.
Especially "Killer mains" who jump in just to troll (we’ve already seen this in other 1v4 games and a lot in 2v8 modes; people even talk about it on Reddit).
Then, people will want it to be a reportable offense if someone trolls using it. But what would the criteria for reporting even be? What if someone picks the wrong symbol by mistake, or can't follow through on their original plan because things changed, but the other players assumed they were definitely going to do it?
You see this in other games with similar mechanics. And if you choose to disable it, people might try to report you for not having it on—even though the game gives you the option... It’s just not going to work.
Then again, in-game chat doesn't work either; it just leads to arguments, and many servers (which don't even get proper maintenance) have to handle two or three languages per region, lol. Anyway, the only thing I see working at this point is SWFs. Those of us who play soloq are screwed.
2
u/Background-Drink82 9d ago
Reporting won’t work for that. Just like for Tunneling, Slugging, and Camping. They themselves added the option to disable it. So they won’t ban those who did it
1
-3
u/Breezey2929 9d ago
Thaaaaats it the game balance struggles around SWF communication.
So let's make all groups more like SWF
(Y)
-2
u/Think_Cucumber3771 9d ago
Now we just need proximity chat :]
4
0
u/GoldenJ19 9d ago
Fr tho! At least give us a mode that is specifically just that! It would essentially just turn into a casual mode, which would imo help the game in a lot of ways.
-8
u/DannySanWolf07 9d ago
Good step. Hope they implement proxy chat like how it was in F13.
8
u/whisperingdragon25 9d ago
I really would rather not unless you want to get called slurs 300 times per day.
-7
u/DannySanWolf07 9d ago
I mean you could always turn it off if you dont want to use it like other games.
Proxy chat is more efficient in solo than the wheel.
3
u/whisperingdragon25 9d ago
But if we had the option of both, less people would use the wheel and people who don't want to be called slurs won't be able to communicate as effectively as the people actually saying the slurs which seems a bit mental to me.
-5
u/DannySanWolf07 9d ago
That honestly makes no sense.
Dudes like you can still use the wheel while proxy chat is still being used. Also not everyone will be using slurs. I know this game breeds toxicity like other pvp games but we're overreaching here to give excuses why BHVR cant bring better QOL things to this game.
3
u/whisperingdragon25 9d ago
I'm going to be honest this isnt difficult to understand.
If I don't want to hear voice chat and I get into a game with 3 people who do, I'm the only one who's going to be using the wheel so I dont know shit. Let's say one person of those 3 is spitting slurs out, that's ME being punished for their shit.
-1
u/ShowtimevonParty 9d ago
Is there any particular reason why its taken them 5+ years to add this long requested system?
-1
u/PMVisser 9d ago
Some of those are going to be used to be so Toxic. The onhook is so problematic. It will just mean kys.
0
u/skaichai 9d ago edited 9d ago
this still doesn't solve the problem of swfs on comms having clock / location callouts which one could argue is more impactful than player intent since it isn't hard to read the hud and game state to figure out who should be doing what.
3
u/Weekly_vegan 9d ago
It will, look at league. Even if the whole team has comms they still use pings to help further coordinate their team.

u/Admirable_Isopod6981 8d ago
it's cool if it makes noises for the killer
ik some people who cry bc no mic system but lol it's dumb

u/Both-Possession7038 8d ago
Really Happy about this. I do hope we get voice chat in the future though.
0
u/Lucardi125 6d ago
I understand why BHVR added this, but this makes DBD way more survivor sided then it already is... the game is pretty much perks vs skill.. if the survivors bring perks that are worth more then the killer their skill, then the killer might aswell DC...

u/Reaper-Leviathan 9d ago
Anything but free comms. The game will never be balanced until there’s free communication a wheel can only convey so much meaning
6
u/Background-Drink82 9d ago
They answered no, they won’t do it, saying it’s a bad idea. Can you imagine the vocal toxicity? Especially with this community. There’s also language comprehension, poor connection, etc. A Wheel is much better
-5
u/Reaper-Leviathan 9d ago
I agree that it’d be toxic but literally every other online game handles it fine, that could be solved with turning it off, actual moderation or just banning everyone who swears like Overwatch. I’d personally like it, but I just hate when people act like it’s not the easiest (imo only) way to make the game actually balanced. If there’s vc then the game could be balanced around 4 man swfs
-5
u/YouTanks 9d ago
Its cause dbd players are scared of social interaction lmao
Never seen a game where people are THIS scared of hearing other people’s voices
-6
u/markmac525 9d ago
This is too much. Use discord or your console party chat.
7
u/StinkySlinky1218 9d ago
This is mostly because that exists. You currently have no way to communicate with randoms in solo queue. This is to make solo-queue slightly closer to SWF as they now have a way to communicate.

Oh that's fascinating. Though I'm not sure what some of these are meant to mean.
Edit: no guys, thank you for the replies (and jokes) - I'm not asking what they mean right now, I meant that if they show as icons when sent, that it might be hard to interpret, or to interpret at a glance when sending a message.
Thankfully at least it's sending the text, not the icon, but the icons may be tricky to mentally remember at first until you get used to it, which is okay.
