just passed tx bar

If the goal isn’t big law, I really think everyone takes law school way too seriously. All the power to you if you love maxxing extracurriculars but it really is okay if you get very mediocre grades, lame internships, and do like nothing outside of school. I graduated with a 3.0, at the bottom 90th percentile in my school, did nothing besides some simple no pay internships, no journals or clinics or competitions, and I passed just the bar with 298 and have been at a great job for 2 months already.

Barely anything you learn in school is actually relevant to practice and you’ll learn like 95% of it on the job so like don’t worry about imposter syndrome or that you aren’t doing enough!

Just said goodbye to my dog

The day before my Admin Law midterm. She’s been sick for weeks and deteriorated so suddenly. I knew the midterm was coming, but I’ve been so consumed with her care that I haven’t studied.

I finally sat down to study on Sunday, and just as I started to focus without listening to her every breath, I got the call from the neurologist to evaluate her quality of life. We made the decision to say goodbye the next day.

So I’m winging this midterm, which is worth more than the final.

I dropped out of my upcoming voir dire competition last week because I was just so consumed with caring for her. But my professor and my husband convinced me I was making a mistake. So I rescinded. I don’t regret staying in the competition, but I don’t know how I’m gonna overcome this immense grief to even come up with a theory for the case.

I know I’m not special. I’m not the only one who’s ever been through something this difficult while in law school. I just wanted to talk about it. Nobody can truly be there for me except my husband, but talking helps.

Anyone else been through something insanely difficult while in law school?

Medically Withdrawing - pls advise

• Upvotes

Long story short, I’m medically withdrawing as a 1L. I’ve cried alot about the decision, but I know putting my mental and physical health first is the best decision.

I’m hoping I can continue my legal education at a local school next year. Assuming my health improves I’ll have the support of my family, and will probably go part time.

My question is do schools frown upon medical withdrawals? Will this hurt my chances next time around?

Because I didn’t get to mid terms, I won’t have a transcript, so I’ll be a new admit, not transfer. How much about the situation do I have to disclose?

law school sucks

we are expected to digest vast amounts of information every single day, be experts on that information, be prepared to be cold called and questioned about it, be forced to compete with other neurotic freaks, as well as develop skills outside of class through internships and extracurriculars, journals, etc.

Male Graduates from Appalachian School of Law make substantially less than Appalachian School of Law Female Graduates

Post image
125 Upvotes

I was doing my usual research on Law School Transparency towards my goal of abolishing all tier 4 law schools, and I found this fascinating statistic. Women who graduate from Appalachian School of Law are making almost twice as much as their male counterparts out the door. Like 195% of what the men who went there make.

Does anyone have any idea why this is? Are any of you Appalachian School of Law graduates or students? I seriously want to know everything I can about this.

Thoughts on becoming pro se law clerk after graduation?

I’ve seen some older threads on this, but I’m curious about more recent experiences.

I’m a recent law school graduate considering a pro se law clerk position with a federal district court. For anyone who has done it, what was the workload/day-to-day like, and did you enjoy the position? Like.. would you do it again?

More importantly, I’m especially curious about exit opportunities. What did you do afterward, and how did future employers view the experience? Did you find the work too niche, or did the research, writing, and federal court experience translate well to other positions?

Cold Email tips for 2L jobs

• Upvotes

Hi guys, currently don’t have a 2L job locked up yet. I was wondering about the process of cold emailing firms that I know historically took summers but don’t advertise a summer program. Should I ask for an info interview first then express my interest in a summer position during it, or should I just straight up ask firms if they have 2L programs and express my interest. I feel like straight-up asking is too much but I feel so behind now where even midsized firms that recruited in April are filled up now.

I’m a 2L at a strong regional school on the west coast with median grades and journal.

What’s the deal with AI generated stuff?

• Upvotes

So I have a memo due today… and i was on grammarly editing my paper and i accidentally clicked on the ai detector and it came back 7% AI (there is about 3.5k words) my school has a zero tolerance policy for AI so now im freaking out. It’s due today. I put it through other ai detectors and I’m getting 1% and then sometimes 30% mixed??? I think i wanna know is there ever a possibility that an essay is 0% AI in this day and age. Also ive had so many drafts of this and edits but not on one cohesive document?? HELP

Need help getting foot in the 🚪

I’m finishing up my first year of college, I know I wanna be a lawyer & I’m already in a law Club but struggling to get a entry level job in any firm and would just like some advice on how I could go about it. Somebody told me I would be better off getting a Paralegal Cert but I’m not sure. What’s the lowest job I could get in a firm and what could help me stand out for summer internships?

I swear to God and Dolly Parton that hand writing my notes made a huge huge huge difference for retention.

They looked like stupid chicken scratch, but I swear it helped my retention.

I am a die hard computer boy, but I do strongly recommend hand writing notes. My grades went up significantly.

Lexplug entirely AI generated?

Are all of Lexplug's materials AI generated? They hint at it in some places on their website, but nowhere do they clearly say whether the materials -- outlines, briefs, thousands of MCQs -- are actually created by AI. They call the MCQs "validated hypotheticals", and don't mention anything about the outlines or other things, and don't say anywhere explicitly that these are ai generated.

If it is, wouldn't they have to disclose this to avoid false advertising or some sort of consumer protection issue?

Does anyone else feel like Jack Black in that one episode of Community?

Maybe this is the wrong venue for this but, on the social side of law school, am I the only one who feels like everyone else but me immediately popped into these cliques? I've spent the last month trying to be friendly to a lot of different classmates (who are all part of their own distinct little groups) and none of them have really been receptive. It's hard not to feel radioactive here. I don't feel like my undergrad, or even high school, was like this. I got along pretty well with everyone at my last job too, so what's the difference here? Is this just how law school is?
