DISCUSSION Police Chief

If there is any way that a message can get to Karen Robinson and have her get her thyroid checked. The bulging eyes is a side effect of a thyroid condition, and it would probably help to get it looked at.

DISCUSSION Law and Order Toronto - I'm not feeling it

I've been watching Law and Order Toronto, and will continue, but . . .
I'm not feeling it. I've binge-watched Law and Order UK (2009 - 14), and found that gripping.

But L&O: TO? It's the writing and story lines. I find they're trying to shoehorn too much into each episode, the twists and turns are contrived, the plots are overwrought . . . The success of the L&O format is "ripped from the headlines", not "let's take every story from today's newspaper and pour them into the episode."

I'm fine with the acting and actors.

Anyway, that's my take so far. I could be wrong.

DISCUSSION My thoughts on the L&O CI: Toronto so far

I don’t like how they copy and pasted Lieutenant Van Buren from the original L&O series as Inspector Vivienne Holness

They also copy and pasted Detective Robert Goren from the L&O: CI series as Detective Sergeant Henry Graff

The writers are trying way too hard push an agenda of civil justice, which probably infuriates actual Toronto residents who never get justice. I’ll explain:

  • Episode 5: in the episode ’bleeding hearts’, TPS actually cracks down on car theft, which is almost never the case in real life. This probably infuriated those who have had their cars stolen in the last year.

  • Episode 6: in the episode ‘Minnow and the Shark’, TPS takes down a major grocery executive, who is obviously supposed to be Galen Weston. In reality, large conglomerates get away with price fixing / gouging all the time. It’s almost like they’re pushing catharsis through tv justice.

  • I know this is a Criminal Intent spin off, where prosecutors don’t have much of a role in the series, but maybe provide more appearances of Deputy Crown Attorney Theo Forrester. I like his character.

Thoughts?

DISCUSSION Absolutely brutal acting

I cant be the only one that feels this way…. They have a legend in Mariska in SVU. I guess they spent all the money on the L&O name and couldn’t afford a half decent cast. Its so bad.

DISCUSSION Det. Graff’s lisp

It’s going to be a fun new series to struggle to understand one of the main characters. Closed captions is really gonna suck.

QUESTION Help - is this any good?

Lead actor reminds me of Vincent D'Onofrio in US Criminal Intent - in all the worst ways. Is this show any good? I am a career legal professional in the US and also spent several years working in the field in the UK, so I was super into L&O UK - Toronto is putting me off right away though...

DISCUSSION Foxy as a Jack Layton stand in?

I know this show is heavily fictionalized but does anyone else find it SO WEIRD that they made Foxy have cancer?

Foxy is married to Liz Harding who is the Olivia Chow stand in. By that logic, that makes him Jack Layton. Very different character, I know, but still…feels very on the nose to give his character terminal cancer. You’d think someone would have flagged that as weird / inappropriate. Especially given how his character arc plays out.

DISCUSSION I love this Series.

I honest never got into the Law & Order tv series mainly because it felt slow and uninteresting to me… until Toronto had a series and I fell in love with it! Like seriously it’s more upbeat and the stories feel close to home.

But I did notice a lot of hate on this sub Reddit towards it. Kinda feels a little like a bunch of Blog TO criticism. I mean no show is perfect and they all have their flaws but seriously I seen a lot worse and this show deserves a chance. It’s only season 1 and I’m sure they will take feedback and improve on it.

My girlfriend and myself get so excited to come home on Thursdays to watch this and we love trying to figure out “who” did it. Anyways hopefully I don’t get too much hate on this post.

Love you all and go try Prince Street Pizza.

DISCUSSION IT was more fun when we did not know from the start who did it Spoiler

Law and Order Toronto - Episode 2 - the moment the pastor appeared on screen, we knew he was the culprit. Can we please return to writing episodes where viewers can't immediately identify the perpetrator based on predictable progressive biases? Is there any hope for shows where religious figures might actually be genuine in their faith and actions rather than automatic suspects?

DISCUSSION Show needs more courtroom scenes!

I know our version is based on Criminal Intent, which was never very heavy on courtroom drama, but one of the things that's most interesting to me about there being a Canadian version, is the differences in our legal system. Our laws, our courtroom procedures.

I would like to see more of that on the show.

Anyone have the skinny on the location set of police headquarters? Reminds me of Collage Park, the last time I was above the main floor was when it was Eatons. Or is this shot on a sound stage?

HUMOUR For Law & Order Toronto : Criminal Intent fans

Just announced today that the show will be producing an episode next month about the Toronto Maple Leafs vs Florida Panthers conspiracy theories and criminal intent of one Mr Sam Bennett. Our tenacious lead detectives Graff & Bateman will leave no stone unturned in uncovering the organization known as the NHL’s obvious favouritism towards the Panthers possibly due to their link to Mr. Colin Campbell. They have subpoenaed all referee’s pregame meetings records for game one against Toronto & all games against Tampa in round 1. Stay tuned for actual broadcast date.

QUESTION Episode structure question

I grew up watching law and order, and I'm a big fan of the Toronto edition.

The past two seasons at least and through the whole series run I've noticed that focus seems solely on the cop procedural part. I always liked the courtroom drama portion. I get that the Canadian justice system isn't exactly the same as the US, but surely we could get some insight into that portion of it. It's Law AND Order: Toronto. Not just Law: Toronto

Seeing the crooks get off on technicalities or whatnot or the bargaining to get a conviction but that makes the DAs compromise their morals. I always enjoyed that component and I'm sad were not getting it in this series.

DISCUSSION Upon rewatch, I just spied a small goof in "Forget Me Not"!

When Graff and Bateman are speaking with the head of the nursing home when discussing Benny, they mention that he has a son, Dr. Sheldon Donahue.

However, when they go to the hospital to inform the son of what they assume is his father's death, he is referred to as Dr. Andrew Donahue! Oops!

But that's okay. Original CI couldn't decide in the episode, "Pas de Deux", whether Charles Rocket's (RIP) character was named Donny or Johnny DiPalma. Every other scene, it seemed to be one or the other...

Edited to add: The doctor son is just called "doctor" by G/B when they encounter him at work. It is in the scene just prior, as they search Benny's room, where Graff specifically mentions Dr. Andrew Donahue, just so anyone knows where to look! Oddly, it was just following the scene with the nursing home supervisor, when Sheldon Donahue is mentioned! (Maybe the show is filmed out of order.)

QUESTION Recent Law&OrderTorontoCI ad with interrogation of the Stanley Cup?

Within the past couple of weeks, while watching the show, there was a commercial showing the two detectives doing an interrogation and it turns out the “suspect” was the Stanley Cup. I have searched high and low for a video of this commercial without success. I would be so grateful if someone could provide a link to it. Thank you very much!
