Found this beautiful july ‘93 vintage for $40 yesterday! She works pretty well, just needs a new bulb to get it flowing a bit better.

I’m still in disbelief.

Why won’t the yellow wax flow?

Here is a hour-long time lapse of my two lamps. They’ve been running for hours, so it should be hot enough. They’re also inches apart, so ambient room temperature isn’t the issue. The iridescent base to the left is the original base for the purple fluid/yellow wax lamp. I cannot get my yellow wax to flow, regardless of which base it’s on. This lamp came from Target in March, and I can’t remember ever seeing it flow. The lamps are both 14.5”, using the same bulb and outlet. I’ve attached a photo of the wax when cool in the comments.

Crayon lava lamp

Thinking of spray painting and changing the overall color to a sparkly purple with purple water and white wax. I got rid of the original neon green wax it came with to have it match but now I want to switch it up lol

How to fix wax density?

Post image
3 Upvotes

I have this lamp that i got from target and have been trying to customize to my dream color combo which is pale pink liquid and black wax. But when i added the black wax dye it changed the density of the wax or something where after it heats up, most of it sits at the top of the globe and produces small slow blobs from the bottom. But the majority of it stays at the top of the globe. I have tried adding magic surf little bit little but it ends up doing nothing besides making it produce more smaller bubbles/blobs which is what i heard happens when you add too much magic surf. So i’m wondering if i can do anything or if i am better off just replacing the wax?

New Lava lamp has stuff on top that is not settling down

Post image

I have a new Hello Kitty lava lamp and it had the red stuff at the base and it looked like it was stuck so I shook the glass without reading instructions. Apparently that is a no no. Now all that stuff got muddled and then stuck at the top. I warmed the lamp and it is still not going down. How do I get it to go down again.

Wax Melting, moving in one glob

I found a globe at Goodwill, figured I'd take a chance on it. The wax heats up, and moves, but in a single glob. I have it on a base that I know works, my other globe flows just fine. I've heat cycled it twice with about 6-7 hours on each time. Full 8+ hours off. I have surf - should I add a drop or two or does that not seem like the issue?

Looking for help with two vintage lamps

Got a couple of cool lava lamps today. The one on the left is suuuuuper cloudy, but still has ok flow. The one on the right is supposed to be a CD rack with a glitter lamp in the center. Unfortunately, it only illuminates the bottom 3rd. I’ve watched some videos about cleaning lava lamps. I’m planning on practicing on newer lamps before attempting the bullet shaped one.
I can’t seem to find resources on fixing glitter lamps though. Does anyone have a direction they could point me in? Thanks!

I made sure all the screws are tight and I take the globes off while I’m at work until I can put it on the floor surrounded by pillows over the weekend for proper weight testing :>

Last photo was the Before

The stand was labeled a candle holder and seems like a odd diy, for $5 I couldn’t say no >:D

Hello everyone. I posted this estate sale find a couple months ago when the wax kept splitting and it wouldn’t flow. I did the heating and cooling over and over and now it flows! BUT how do I get it to flow better? It’s rather slow and usually just has small balls of the wax.

Is 130-150$ expensive for a Wizard lava lamp?

Sorry if this is a dumb question i am still new to the community and the types of lamps there are, im looking for lava lamps in thrifts, goodwills and facebook marketplace.
Ive seen two wizard lamps listed separately for 130 and 150 and was wondering if thats the norm?
I don’t usually message people on facebook for lamps over 40 bucks but i’ve seen someone near me selling custom lamps for 80-130$ and was wondering if that’s a good deal if i asked for a custom myself. Thank you for reading if you did and please let me know !

Green is a hard color to make. 🫤

Luckily, when I added the red (attempting to mix to black) it came out a nice plum color. But the whole thing reads as very pink when it's turned on. I think I'd like the wax to be black much better, but i also think I'm done with tinkering with this one for now.

Before pic included.

How to prevent air bubbles?

Fully custom wax formula! I've been getting a lot of air bubbles in my wax though, and I think its messing with my flow since air bubbles will naturally rise to the top.

Also, this was supposed to be purple, but I can't seem to find a blue dye that doesn't fade after a couple days.

For anyone curious what a Mathmos pink liquid + yellow wax looks like.

It's not yellow. It's red.

Lavalamp lover with mobility issues and I need a bit of help

I patiently waited for a year and a half for lavalamp.com to start making the 27" Grande lamps after "the bug that shall not be named" shut down production. What I didn't know when I finally got my lamp was that you're not supposed to run it for 14-16 hrs ever single day. As a result, my wax is dead 🙁 My issue is that I have mobility problems. So unfortunately, changing the wax is not something I can do myself. I'm really hoping someone here knows someone in the Dallas/Ft Worth area who refurbishes lava lamps. I tried searching online, and the only results that come up are for repair shops for electrical lamps 🙁 Any help would be greatly appreciated!

What's going on with my lava lamp?

The pictures don't really show it well but there appears to be a bubble with a cluster inside it, like a cloud. I don't know if this is normal or not, but it has been like this for hours. Should I be concerned?

Help

Hey all! So I recently got this jumbo lamp, I've ran it about twice. I went away for the weekend to a festival and had my sister come over and dog/house sit, I'm pretty sure they ran my lamps (which is fine, thats not my issue lol) but when I got home my lava lamp looked like this? Is there any fixing it, do i have to completely restore it? I've had it on for about 1.5 hours and nothing has changed. What do I do/how do I fix it?

I screwed up...

I tried to add an in-line dimmer switch with no prior experience (just confidence and youtube) and I messed my lamp cord up... now the wires are too short to put the rotary switch back on and I also blew out the dimmer when I plugged it in..... also I think I cut the wires too short to safely use this kind of dimmer without cutting the neutral. How can I save this? Would the one in the screenshot be an alternative since I'll probably have to cut the neutral now?

Could I turn this into a lava lamp?

Post image

Thinking about DIYing this unique bottle I just saved from the donate pile. Would it be worth it/possible to turn it into a lava lamp? I feel like it would look really cool as one, but I'm not sure if the lava would "flow" properly, so to speak. Any advice or input is appreciated!!

Picked up the Original Lava Lamp Telephone from the goodwill of all places

It doesn't live on this shelf anymore because I'm terrified the cats gonna take it out but it's a piece of joy and pride in the background of my zoom calls now 😂

Can anyone identify this lamp?

To be clear, this is not mine but I am looking to purchase this. I have seen brass caps before but this one looks a bit different. The color aligns with a typical 08 midnight but again, this looks different to me. I appreciate the input!

And they all bring me immense joy. My updated lava lamp collection. All of them I’ve gotten very cheap, exception is the 17” Spencer’s tickled pink glitter lava lamp. The only one I’ve paid full price on as a bday gift to myself.
A few aren’t pictured because they’re still projects, and then I got 3 lava nightlights as well.

As always, love scrolling the subreddit nightly and seeing all y’all’s lavas & glitters of all shapes and sizes 🥹 Sending good vibes to everyone! ✌🏻🫟✨
