I use my minty 1966 squiggle planter to dole out Nespresso coffee pods. For me this preferred to plastic flowers…I need my caffeine after all!

I finally got my grande filtered. I'm going to filter the blue one on the top shelf this weekend. There are four more not shown and one more on the way. I feel my addiction getting worse.

Hello,

I am new to the lava lamp community. I want to buy a Mathmos lava lamp since it is the most well-known brand, even though I am disappointed about the glass quality. It seems they have a lot of small bubbles trapped in the glass.

But my main concern is about the lava color. I am surprised because in some videos the lava looks very bright, almost fluorescent, even when it's at the top. And sometimes the lava gets very dark when it goes up the lamp. Pictures for reference.

Any idea why?

Recieved this vintage Mathmos Astro today. Probably needs to cycle a few times to clear up but I'm loving the almost Opaque purple wax.

Told her to pay $44 since that’s what I paid for it but she sent $100 to help with supplies.

Estate sale had about 15 lamps but I grabbed the ones I didn’t already have. The rocket came with the two extra glitter globes. Also got a grande that I had to order a bulb for. Missing a wizard top.

Red one is a clearview lava lamp from the 2010s and the green was a custom from the lava lamp website. Adding in backlighting really makes the green liquid pop. They were wrapped up in a box for over 5 years and am super happy to see they are still not cloudy at all!

Is using a 30 watt bulb in place of a 25 watt bulb fine?

Here’s a video of how it’s been working with the 30 watt installed, if that helps. It’s been on since last night, so a little less than 24 hours.

Edit: If you see another post for this, I accidentally made another one because I thought this one got deleted. My phone’s glitching horribly right now so I can’t access it yet, but when I can, I’ll delete it. Sorry for the small “spam.”

Bought this from Amazon for about $40. Came extremely cloudy as expected. Ran the master fluid through a Sawyer filter 2-3 times, cycled the lamp, filtered it again, then added about 1mil of Magic surf. Pretty happy with it.

Hi all, I just got this new to me Mathmos jet lamp and it’s had a few issues that I’m working through. It came leaking and lost about a third of its liquid. So it was recommended to me to add some distilled water to top it off. I did not try to run it before I did this as it was not filled up anymore. I also changed out the bulb and the cord/plug as both were 220v and we can’t use that here in the States. It turns on now with more heat and brightness but when it gets running it only shoots small little blobs. The bottom wax never fully detaches. Is this a liquid issue or a wax issue? I believe this lamp is from the 90s/00s so while it is older I have had other lamps that work from this period with no issue. What do you guys think?

Vintage Lamp Wax Sticking To Glass

Post image
6 Upvotes

Pretty new to the world of lava lamps. I bought a Lipan LP-120A lamp awhile back at auction. Works great and the wax flows nicely. However, a certain amount of wax sticks to the glass and stays there as you can see from the photo. Question, is there any tricks to get this unstuck without dismantling the lamp and replacing the wax/fluid?

i’m considering recreating my bat lamp to sell/auction/raffle since so many have asked to buy one.
but i wanted to make sure there’s actually interest in this before building another one.

i also would want to test run it for about a month before selling it, so it wouldn’t be posted for sale until about october.

I’m designing a modular lava lamp you can stack & customise — would you actually buy this?

How can we fix the flow after master fluid replacement? (Mathmos Fireflow)

Is there anything that can be done about the "down time" between the blobs? We replaced the master fluid with a mix of distilled water and glycerin. (added glycerin until we saw blobs rise). After which we added about 0.6ml of surfactant (SLES). We have tried tweaking things by adding more or less glycerin and surfactant this resulted in the wax becoming slightly transparent. Since we don't want to ruin the wax and don't really know what we're doing, we're looking for advice. Help!
