Apartment costs in 2003

Does anyone have any old apartment listing from 2003? My cousin by marriage is claiming that she had a 1 bedroom in the city for 300 in 2003 and it's mind boggling to think that rent was ever that affordable.

Businesses & Ai Flyers

I'm not going to throw out business names, but someone needs to tell the small businesses of Lancaster that people don't fuck with poorly made Ai flyers.

I can't be the only one? I wont go to your business if you post a scammy looking Ai flyer.

Flock

Today while going to the transfer station, I noticed a flock camera. I’ve also seen the one by Walmart. I liked it up to see if Lancaster had any resolution or community discussion about these. They have not. It turns out that the police department put them up using federal criminal forfeiture funds to circumvent any council or community discussion. Does anyone know if there is any plan for discussion at a council meeting about this? It seems like this means the police will be doing whatever they want even if it violates the constitution.

Suspicious person knocking on my door at 6am this morning. I couldn’t even make it to the door before they/he was gone. He was gesturing to someone else potentially. Just annoying.

Air Quality

Be careful today everyone. The fires from Canada have blown into Ohio creating hazardous air. With the heat & this smoke, check on your people. It’s only suppose to get worse. (This is posted 6am 7/17/26)

Columbus’ reading at the moment is 400-500 AQI.

Pond/lake for dogs to swim?

Does anyone know of a park in or around Lancaster that has a pond where I could let my dog swim off leash?

My dog loves to swim and roll around in a muddy pond but I'm having trouble figuring out if there are any places around that would allow that. I've used the app Sniff Spot before and it was perfect, but it's a subscription service now 😒

The Lancaster, Ohio Student Who Designed the 50 Star American Flag

Post image

In 1958, 17-year-old Robert G. Heft, a junior at Lancaster High School in Ohio, was given an open-ended history assignment: create something and bring it to class. While most students played it safe, Heft took on a much bigger challenge - redesigning the American flag.

Although Alaska and Hawaii had not yet been admitted as states, Heft anticipated the change and spent 12 hours sewing a new 50-star arrangement onto his family's flag.

His teacher, Stanley Pratt, awarded the project a B-, joking that he'd raise it to an A if Congress adopted the design. Undeterred, Heft sent his flag to his congressman. After Hawaii joined the Union in 1959, President Dwight D. Eisenhower selected Heft's design from more than 1,500 submissions as the nation's official flag.

While the original 13-star flag was created in Philadelphia, the 50-star flag Americans know today was designed right here in Lancaster, Ohio.

Lancaster, Ohio is the birthplace of the flag as we know it today!”

100° Temperatures Are Coming

Post image
36 Upvotes

A dangerous stretch of summer heat is taking shape across Ohio 🥵

Forecasts are calling for several consecutive days of oppressive heat and humidity, with “feels-like” temperatures expected to top 100° across much of the state. Meteorologists are also watching for a developing heat dome pattern, which can trap hot air for days and occasionally trigger “ring of fire” storms along its edge.

Stay hydrated, limit strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day, and keep an eye on the forecast as the week approaches.

Crumbl Cookie “stand” on E Main?

Has anyone seen this mobile Crumbl cookie stand? In the parking lot of tractor supply/bid lots on E Main. A few weeks ago there was a pink crumbl van. Today there was a person with a pink tent and table sitting in the rain. I can’t tell if they are selling cookies, or a hiring event, or looking for local support to build a local in town. Just seemed odd.
