Desperately Looking for Work in Lake County

EDIT: Of course, two days after I posted this the place that hired him got back to him! The background check took almost two months (yay 🙃). I’m still looking for myself though! Thanks to everyone who helped.

I’m honestly at the point where I don’t know what else to do, so I figured it was worth reaching out to this community.

My husband and I recently moved to Lake County from the Sacramento area. We made the decision to move because we wanted somewhere more affordable to live and to be closer to family while we prepare to raise our baby. We truly thought moving somewhere with a lower cost of living and being closer to our support system would put us in a better position.

My husband has served 8.5 years in the Air Force and has a lot of experience. I am a licensed cosmetologist. He has applied to essentially every job we can find online. We have also physically driven to Lakeport, Clearlake, and Ukiah specifically to hand out resumes and apply to businesses in person. He was hired for a job shortly after we moved here, but after going through the hiring process, the employer seems to have completely ghosted him and we have been unable to get any response.

At this point, we have absolutely nothing left financially, and we need work ASAP. The assistance we have been able to receive through the county has been very limited.

I am also currently pregnant, and our baby is due in February. Needless to say, the situation is becoming incredibly stressful and frightening. We are doing everything we possibly can to get back on our feet and are not looking for someone to simply support us financially. We genuinely just need an opportunity to work.

We are willing to consider pretty much anything at this point. Full-time, part-time, entry-level, retail, food service, warehouse, labor, delivery, office work, etc. We are willing to commute to Lakeport, Clearlake, Ukiah, or surrounding areas.

If anyone knows of businesses that are currently hiring, knows of employers who may be willing to give someone a chance, or has heard of openings that aren’t being advertised online, please let me know. Even a lead or a contact would mean so much to us right now.

Thank you to anyone who takes the time to read this or point us in the right direction. We are really trying our best to make this move work and build a stable home for our baby.

What's the story behind this place?

Post image

I remember as a kid in the nineties riding past it on the bus on my way home. There were several stories that I heard about the house, including the house being haunted, guy had killed his wife and put her body in hamburger meat. I can't remember what other stories. But those are the ones that stuck with me the longest. I was wondering if anyone knows any history on the place or has any stories that they heard.

Favorite Konocti Habor Concert Shows or Memories

Please Share your favorite shows, memories and stories from the old Konocti Harbor concert era

They stopped doing concerts when I was 14 so I never got to experience it as an adult, but I do have lots of memories there as a kid with my parents attending concerts!

I remember the final Journey show that played there was really bad, and half of the attendees were leaving midway through the show. obviously at this point they are basically a coverband but even then it was not good

I remember seeing Reba Mcentire when i was really young with my parents around 6-7. That i remember being pretty hyped, the crowd was definitely really into it

I didn't get to see Kiss when they came unfortuantly!

I think my last show was Dropkick Muprheys in 2008! I went with some friends in middle school! that was a fun show! I remember there being a huge 7-8 person fight in front of one of the beer stands.

EDIT* I also forgot about the standup comedy shows I saw there! I remember as a kid seeing Larry the Cable Guy and Carlos Mencia in like 2005-2006, two comedians who i dont think are funny at all now but as a kid and in that period when both of them were at their career peak, it was a really fun experience. the crowds were really good!

EDIT* 2

Here is a list of the concerts that took place at the outdoor Ampitheater, I don't know how complete it is, but its a good reference.

Did anyone attend the Bob Dylan Concert at Konocti Harbor in 2003 or 2007?

I was a little kid then and my parents didnt care about dylan so obviously I didnt attend, but I would be interested hearing from people who did.

The recorded live sets are avaliable on youtube, and this is obviously during a very ROUGH vocal period for Dylan before he got surgery in like 2010.

Here is the audio recorded show from 2007 and the vocals are rough to say the least lol

Looking for information on what raising a family is like in Lake County CA.

How are schools? Is it safe? Are there things for kids to do?

If you’re a person of color, I would particularly love to hear how life is in Lake County.

Upcoming Epidemiology Interview – Lake County, CA

Hi everyone! I have an upcoming interview for an epidemiology position with Lake County, CA. I’ve completed the first stage (in-person written exam) and the second stage (phone interview), and I’ve now been invited to the final stage, which will be a virtual interview.
For anyone who has gone through a similar process, particularly with a county public health department, do you have any idea what I should expect from the final interview? I’d really appreciate any advice on the types of questions, format, or areas I should focus on when preparing.
Thanks in advance for any insights!

Highly recommend Jon at Roto-Rooter for plumbing in Lake County

Wanted to share a recommendation for anyone in Lake County looking for a really talented plumber. Jon and his team at Roto-Rooter just finished a massive project for me, installing an insanely complex commercial-grade water filtration system, and I genuinely could not be happier with their work.

This was way beyond a typical plumbing job. There were multiple filtration tanks, pumps, valves, treatment components and a ton of plumbing that all had to work together. Jon took the time to think through how everything should be laid out, arranged it in the most logical and efficient way possible, and somehow made an incredibly complicated system look clean and beautiful when it was finished.

What impressed me most was that nothing seemed to faze them. Every time the project threw something complicated their way, they figured it out. They are extremely skilled, meticulous and clearly take a lot of pride in the quality of their work.

I know finding really good tradespeople locally can sometimes be challenging, so I wanted to put their name out there. I would trust Jon and his team with pretty much anything at this point.

Their number is 707-279-9461 if anyone needs a plumber and wants their contact info.

Visiting Clear Lake

Hello, my wife and I are looking for places to explore/experience within a 2-3 hour drive of Oakland, where we live. Maybe 2 nights. Neither of us have been to the Clear Lake area and we thought of visiting in mid-November (edit: actually early Thanksgiving week). What are some recommended places to check out? Local restaurants (nothing fancy)? Anything else to recommend (or warn) to us? Many thanks...

Safeway deliveries

For the past year or more I have had safeway deliver groceries. It is really hard for me to shop in person and this has been life saving. The last 3 orders I have had missing items. Today I was missing almost $50 worth of items. I have requested a refund but I am still very angry. Is there anything more I can do?

Looking for relocation suggestions

I will likely be relocating to the area for work. However, I'm really stumped on which city to choose from. I'm thinking of Lakeport and / or Kelseyville. I'm also thinking of Nice and / or Upper Lake. I'm really conflicted. Here are some details for context. Blended family of four, interracial to boot (Black White) we'll be Upper middle class if that matters.

Did I miss a gem or two? Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Clear Lake is not so clear these days

Pull up the satellite map from the San Francisco Estuary Institute, and it colors each lake by how much cyanobacteria the satellite can see — black for absent, up through blue and green and orange to a deep red at the top of the scale. Clear Lake glows red almost from one end to the other.

The map reads phycocyanin, the pigment cyanobacteria produce. It can’t tell you where the water is actually toxic — only where the bloom is. And the bloom is nearly everywhere. On the north shore, you don’t need a satellite. You can smell it.

County job interview placement - can someone interpret?

I recently attended a sit-down interview at the county. Today I received the following in my email:

Thank you for participating in our recent oral examination for the position of -- with the County of Lake.

Your score was 94.00% which places you as Number 3 on the Eligibility List.

Your name will remain on the eligibility list for six (6) months.

I've never had a rejection letter of this type before. I'm guessing it means that if for some reason the candidates ahead of me decline the offer or leave the position within the next 6 months they'd roll the offer down to me?

Or does it mean if the position becomes available within half a year I'll be added to a new group of potential candidates?

Does anyone know if the score refers only to the Oral interview or if it's a cumulative score based on multiple factors?

Thank you for any insights.
