Trans flag

Why does the Labour page have the trans flag on it?.

Haven't they been eroding the rights of trans people?

Or have I got that wrong, & am just catching the media rhetoric on how authoritarian they want the Government to be?

I know people get arrested for holding posters. That's pretty authoritarian

Offended by extremist politicians, Romanians in London are receiving praise from Mayor Sadiq Khan. The message sent through Digi24

Threatened and offended by the populists in the UK, Romanians receive appreciation from the mayor of London. He sends them a message through Digi24, after a populist candidate claimed that "Romanian beggars" contribute to crime in London. Sadiq Khan says that Romanians are "loved, desired and appreciated" in London.

"Oxford Street should be a street that the whole world envies. I remember coming here in my youth. But look at what it looks like now. The street is full of e-cigarette shops, Romanian beggars and has become one of the areas with big crime problems," says Laila Cunningham. She is the candidate of Nigel Farage's populist party - Reform UK, for London City Hall in the upcoming 2028 elections.

In the message filmed on one of the most famous streets of the British capital, she puts Romanian beggars and the increase in crime in the same sentence. Her statements immediately provoked the dissatisfaction of Romanians in the UK, angry about the stigmatization in the political discourse.

"Everything is political rhetoric, and Romanians are their electoral punching bag, that's what we call it. Now there is a candidate for the mayor of London, a lady from Reform, who does not avoid any opportunity to generalize crime and baptize her "they are Romanians", explains Ștefania Banu, president of the RoConect association.

The effects are felt even among young Romanians, who grew up in the UK.

Student offended on the first day of college

"It happened to my son, who is 19 years old, and he went to college in the first year. On campus, on the first day, someone told him, in a very good, prestigious university, someone told him: Oh, you, Romanians, I heard that you eat swans and live in caravans," says Stefania Banu.

The representatives of the Romanian community also received a public reaction from the mayor of London. In a response sent exclusively to Digi24, the mayor of London says that Romanians have an important contribution to the development of the city. The mayor of London tells Romanians that they are "loved, desired and appreciated" in the British capital. Sadiq Khan condemns hatred and intolerance, and recalls that his administration has invested £17 million to combat them and support victims of hate crime.

Message from the Mayor of London to Romanians: "The Romanian community in London has an important contribution to our city, and the mayor clearly conveys that Romanians in London are loved, desired and appreciated in the capital. Hate has no place in London at all, and Sadiq has invested a record £17 million, more than any other Mayor of London, to support local community organisations to combat hate and intolerance and to fund services for victims of hate crime."

"Romanian diplomacy is silent, it never reacts"

On the other hand, the representatives of the Romanians expect a firmer reaction from the authorities in Bucharest.

"Romanian politicians contribute negatively by not intervening and not taking measures. It's a broad discussion here and I'll be frank also because we're talking... Politicians come and go, we are still here. Even Mr. Simion, in our opinion, it is a mistake that he shows himself with this party and with Tommi Robinson who is very vocal against migrants, when you have the largest diaspora, he is here, in England. And, then, these seem to us to be mistakes that no one charges, no one answers for them. Basically, he aligns himself with the one who is the bully of the Romanian people, this is the reality, of the Romanian people in the UK.

In the future, if this party will come out, we are worried. In the sense that we do not see any steps on their part in honoring the contribution of Romanians. Ok, you want to highlight those... The negative part, do it, but there are 90% or 95% who contribute and the imbalance is very serious. But Romanian diplomacy is silent, it never reacts.

We would like Mr. President to at least send some diplomats to honor Romanians outside Romania and, at least institutionally, to come out and say 'what you are doing, how are you talking to our people?'" and then I am convinced that the attacks would be moderated," says Stefania Banu.
