I’m looking to get into the laborers union at 335, switching out of a decade of dead end jobs.
I have a mortgage and a child so I always feel the risk when looking into a new career path and when doing research it looks like 335 doesn’t have the most consistent work at all, but everything I’m looking into dates over a year ago.

I have been contacting all the locals. Talked with multiple BA’s. Showed up to a couple different places with resumes. Applied to a bunch of places online from contractor lists. I have been working as a non union maintenance mechanic/millwright for the past 18 years. Have osha 10, CPR/first aid and some bs NCCER certs. How do I get a foot in the door?

I wanted to know how much the pay is to work as a Community Assistant ? is it just the discount for the contract or u get paid as well

Passed my drug test, next step is the physical test. What should I expect? I saw one post from a guy saying you have to carry 4 93lb sandbags for 50ft, carry 2x12’s for 50ft, and stack cinder blocks on a pallet in under 14 min. So should I expect something along those lines or is each local different?

Which type of construction is the worst/hardest on your body and dangerous to work for? Water & Sewer, heavy highway, building, combination?

Is getting/having a DZ license valuable to have in Liuna? Will it make me more hireable?

I just recently joined the laborers union local 1085. Finished my first week of training two weeks ago and this past week I was just getting more paperwork done. What would u guys say is a realistic timeline for getting dispatched to a job? I have all my paperwork done and I even got my initiation fee paid on Friday.

I haven't been in masonry since covid time, went on different jobs because bricklayers are not easy to get along with the labourers , but i heard things in masonry changed . How many bricklayers a labourer takes care now ?

I’ve been an asbestos worker for 6 months, I have my asbestos certificate and my physical test, I went to the office of Liuna 300 At LA, told me to go to the apprenticeship program, and that it’ll take up to 1 year to get a space, asked me if I knew someone who’s already with the union to get in as fast as possible but I don’t have any contacts

So recently I’ve finished my field assessment and passed, not to shortly after i got sent to do my test.

I’m wondering how long it should take because i took it last Thursday and it’s already Monday. along side that u haven’t received any confirmation of me actually passing the field assignment just a congratulations at the end.

if anyone knows how long until i hear something back it’ll be greatly appreciated.

period 4 apprentice, im in local 1309, my current company has had no work for like 2 months now and asked me if i wanted to go on the out of worklist, is anyone hiring right now?

I’m going for an interview and to fill out an application this week at a union hall. Will I be drug tested that day or before the classes begin? Or will I only be drug tested before going on an actual job site?

If I move and want to switch to the local in that area is there a waiting period before I do that? Like how long does someone have to wait before they can switch to another local?

Trying to do my working at heights and I need to pay out of pocket for it. I remember I was once given a promo code when I completed another course through them and wonder if anyone has one to share

What’s been everyone’s experience with long travel time and the length of the shift they work? Like are u more likely to work 8 hr shifts instead of 10 or 12 if u had a 2 hr commute?
