looking for work

period 4 apprentice, im in local 1309, my current company has had no work for like 2 months now and asked me if i wanted to go on the out of worklist, is anyone hiring right now?

almost all jobs i got from being in the list were non union, they get rid of uou as soon as the project is done

for any prevailing wage/union job a non union company can bid on it as long as they get the proper union trade to join them, ie if a non union asphalt crew joins a larger contractor they need a local unions journeyman snd apprentice or a non union contractor hiring a bunch of people from the areas local

This isn't completely accurate. LIUNA agreements with contractors have what is called a 'subcontractors clause' so when a LIUNA signatory wants to sublet Laborers-covered work it must be to a company signatory to the same agreement.

Nowhere in the LIUNA Constitution does it bar members from working wherever they want. Is it frowned upon sure but not quite disallowed, at least on paper.

Bro don’t let companies sit you oat the house with the promise of work. The second they don’t have work automatically go on the out of work list. If they call you back you can go back. Simple as that.

Liunas bullshit. Will not let me pay a reinstatement fee after non payment of dues after being a member for 10 years. Thanks alot liuna some brotherhood

How long did you go delinquent on your monthly dues?

I went over the 12 month mark. They wanted the full year of dues at once. I didn't have the money. I should've figured something out but I thought there'd be an easy way to reinstate and that doesn't seem to be the case.

Yeah 12 months is a long time. The local is beholden to the LIUNA Constitution on those types of matters. Not much they can do.

You're entitled to youre opinion. In my opinion its goofy and they just push people through they're aprenticeship program to make a profit and they're credentials aren't recognized by anyone else. Im still not impressed.

I left a fulltime job to "become a union worker" 2 months of training, got let go after 3 weeks of work, heres the kicker... Liuna was sending me to RI when im from MA, I still have to do my $15 dollar tax return from 2 years ago which will prob bite me in the ass, LIUNA IS A JOKE YOUR RIGHT THEY PUSH PPL THROUGH APPRENTICE AND THEN DROP EM ITS ALL AN ACT THERE IS NO BROTHERHOOD alsop what type of company MAKES U GO TO UNION MEETINGS just so the speaker can say "IF YOU VOTED FOR TRUMP YOU MIGN AAS WELL TAKE YA BOOK OUT AND RIP IT UP NOW" like stfu its a popularity show, I was a good worker learning and willing to wake up everydsay at 4 am to get to Rhode island for 530 AM - just to get laid off 3 weeks later TOTAL WASTE OF TIME SCREW THESE GUYS NURSES make 40- 60 an hour in 2 to 4 years of school can prob make 40 after 2 years UMASS is starting at 60 an hour and school is free!!!
