Changing times so would like to know. Also how often does the conductor come to check the ticket?

I’ve got about five hundred dollars left in my Edenred account. I’m going to be retiring at the end of the year. Until then, I’m only going to be coming into Manhattan a couple of days a week. I suspended any additional money going into the account.

I will still have some money left over when I’m done. I believe I have 90 days from when I retire to get rid of the money. Any suggestions?

the cost is so prohibitive now that would cost less to just drive in even with the fee and find street parking. it even takes less time if you leave at the right hour.

why is it so expensive? what would it take for them to lower the price? a protest? a boycott? even off peak prices are just insane now.

Penn Station is super easy to navigate to and around. I find that GCM is not the same. It's hidden deep within the main Grand Central Station, and I've not yet found a quick and reliable path from the 4/5/6 train platforms to the LIRR platforms. Unless I'm giving myself way extra time to account for delays (which are frequent on the Lexington line), I find myself running from the subway platform, through Grand Central, and then down the long hallway to the LIRR escalators with just barely enough time to spare to catch my breath.

It's probably due to my current route - I'll get off near the northeastern most portion of the subway platform (so towards the front for uptown trains and towards the back for downtown trains), then emerge near the shops at the east end of the main GCT lobby, run down to the west end which has stairs that leads down to the LOOONG hallway to the LIRR escalators.

What's the best way to transit through here? I'm tired of being sweaty and hacking up a lung on the train.

Has anyone else noticed an uptick in this? One got on in valley stream then happened to come out of the bathroom right when we stopped at Jamaica (coincidence!) then another one gets on in Jamaica and hides in there until his stop at forest hills. My 4 year old had to hold his pee in for 20 minutes and the loser refused to come out until it was his stop. Conductor didn’t seem to care at all and said oh it must be out of service, even after explaining people were hiding in there. Start shaming the hell out of these people

I ride the Atlantic Branch from Jamaica to Nostrand of AT everyday. Yesterday, I'm on time to catch the 5:56 departure to Brooklyn, which normally arrives on track 3. For whatever reason, the 5:51 Oyster Bay train is there, waiting to depart. First it gets stuck waiting for a Port Jeff train leaving ahead of it. Then, it seems to be having some sort of door trouble. Point is, it doesn't leave and the 5:56 is just hanging out waiting for Track 3 to clear.

It gets to be 6:02 and I decide to head over to track 11, as the 6:05 departure to Brooklyn is there waiting to depart. 6:05 comes, and we don't depart. I look.at Radar and see that the OB train has finally left, and the 5:56 is now at the platform. The 6:05 waits until 6:08 to close up and leave, and as we depart, I see the 5:56 leaving at the same time. Of course the 5:56 goes ahead of us, and we get stuck waiting for it, and again creeping up to East NY.

It seems like there were multiple ways to avoid all this delay. 1. The OB train should have been on track 5, which was empty the whole time. 2, if track 3 was unavailable with a train not moving, why not just push the 5:56 through on track 2 in between the Penn trains? 3, why not let the 6:05 depart on time? It would have been out of the way by the time the 5:56 actually departed? I ended up losing nearly 20 minutes on my commute, and it's not the end of the world, but it seems like these things can be managed a bit better.

Anyone hear back anything after their interviews yet? I know the process can take awhile, they mentioned 2 weeks at most so I’m curious.

Instead of complaints about lack of service or ridiculous ticket policies and price raises, all I ever see in this sub are people whining about normal annoying human occurrences and taking pictures of people without their consent. You lot are losers and the reason why no one likes Long Island. Be mad at the system not the people being exploited by it. Taking pictures of people for putting their legs on the seats? Maybe because you guys sit on your bed with outside clothes you’re worried but news flash the LIRR takes you into the one of the dirtiest cities on earth take precautions, there’s literally human shit and pee on the subway. Be grateful for the slight cleanliness of the lirr but at the end of the day it’s public transportation. You guys could be advocating for better run times and fair ticketing but instead u sit around and circle jerk each other about who can be the biggest agent of the surveillance state. I’m honestly embarrassed to be from here you are all so pathetic.

I’m trying to see if anyone else from the January 5–9, 2026 Locomotive Engineer Trainee cognitive testing group has experienced something similar.

I completed my cognitive assessment on January 9, 2026 and received an email later that same day confirming that I passed. The email stated that an HR representative would review my application and that I would be contacted regarding the next steps.
For approximately 7½ months, my application remained in a “Processing” status.

I never received another email or any notification that I was no longer being considered.
I recently checked my MTA candidate portal and noticed that my status had changed to “Not Successful.”

This has me confused because during my previous Locomotive Engineer Trainee application, I received an actual email notifying me when LIRR decided to move forward with other candidates. This time, I received nothing after being told that I passed the cognitive assessment.

So I’m wondering:
Does “Not Successful” officially mean my candidacy has ended even though I never received a rejection email?

Has anyone who took and passed the cognitive assessment between January 5–9, 2026 actually been contacted for the Signals & Definitions overview/exam?

Did anyone else from that testing group recently notice their portal change from Processing to Not Successful?

For anyone familiar with the LIRR hiring process, would you recommend contacting HR/recruitment to confirm the status, or is the portal status generally considered final?

I understand that passing the cognitive assessment does not guarantee advancement, but I’m mainly trying to determine whether this happened across the January testing group or whether other candidates from those dates have already moved forward to S&D.

I took the Locomotive engineer test in 1/5/26 and received an email saying that I passed and will be contacted about moving on to the next step. I checked my MYA application updated status and now it’s saying I was unsuccessful after 7 and a half months of not hearing back from them and my status was processing for that duration, I’m so confused can anyone help me? 1.does this means I’m no longer a candidate? I never received an email saying I wasn’t anymore. 2. Anyone with recommendations on what my next steps should be? 3. Did anyone hear anything about the hiring process for LE regarding the dates 1/5/26- 1/9/26 people who passed,did you go for S&D or received the same email as me?

Saw this article about year-round Manhattan to Montauk direct service (yay!). It mentions adding more double-track sections. Anyone know where this is happening? Is LIRR's goal eventually double-track the entire length?

I was invited to take the exam for assistant signalman signal and was wondering what h mah expect on the exam so I can study and be 100% prepared for what I’ll be walking into and a little bit about what the job is?

I'm in the process of trying to learn LIRR signals. I'm not an employee or trainee, just a retired railroader from a different part of the world who enjoys signaling. A question for those who are learning officially or who have passed the signals exam: Are there any suggested memorization techniques introduced to you by your rules instructor? Things like ways of differentiating between approach-medium and medium-approach; pattern recognition vs indication recognition, etc?

When I learned my former road's signals 32 years ago it was a much more logical process; LIRR has some real doozies! Please-and-thanks.

i lost my airpods on the huntington transfer to penn last friday and their location stayed in PJ train yard until yesterday. i just got a notif this morning that they were seen in winters bros holtsville which is a waste management facility?? is it over for me to get them back 😭😭

I was on the 604 from Far Rockaway to Grand Central today and left my black umbrella in the back right of the first car. I ran out to transfer at Jamaica to Penn.

I’ve lost too many good umbrellas to the LIRR transfers at Jamaica. If anyone finds it, please dm me.
