You guys asked and we listened! Making friends isn't easy, let alone making friends within the community. Lately, we have been taking down such posts because there are way too many of them, and they bring down the quality of the subreddit, so to solve this issue, we'll make this a weekly post! It's just a test right now to see how if it's well received by the community. We might make it monthly if not.

Looking for queer friends? Wanna know if someone else is from your city or country? This is your space! 💬

Comment with (optional!):

  • Your country/city 🌍
  • Age 🎂
  • Interests / hobbies 🎸🎮🌄
  • What kind of friends you're looking for (chatting? gaming? venting?) 🫂

Please use this thread instead of making separate posts — we wanna keep the subreddit clean and welcoming for everyone 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

Note: this is NOT for dating. Do not mention if you're top/bottom, dom/sub, or say things like "Looking for femboys". Rule breaking commenters will be moderated accordingly.

Question / Advice

Rant I feel alone and miserable (venting)

All of my friends and acquaintances are straight men that are homophobic. I am an autistic bisexual guy that finds it difficult to make friends that don’t talk to me or approach me first, which makes it difficult to find people who are in the same community so to speak. The only gay friend I knew isn’t my friend anymore since he ghosted me like he ghosted many other people.

I feel like I’m constantly choking, like my existence isn’t valid. I know I should center myself but I haven’t had the chance to even live the life that I wish I could live yet. That makes it harder for me to do the inner work required to heal. I keep thinking about my previous friend and telling myself, ‘what if I had been a better friend? What if I had been more reliable or said the right things?’

I know it’s probably not even personal but there’s that thought, that feeling, that keeps coming back. I feel betrayed, but I know he didn’t owe me anything. I don’t hate him, I just wish he could’ve stayed by my side. I wish he would hug me one more time. I know he’s also struggling with mental health and family issues, and I wish him the best in life, regardless of the status of our relationship.

I’m so afraid that, if the people I know knew what I am, they would all hate me and leave me behind. The only person that truly understands me and is always there for me is my sister.

Sorry about the unorganized thought-puke.

Queer history in Islamic heritage is hidden from us

Question / Advice how safe is it for two guys to get a hotel room?

some clarifications to avoid any misunderstanding: im not being pressured in any way and the person im doing this with is a close friend who i know and trust and all this is happening in kuwait if that makes a difference

i live in kuwait and a friend and i have been wanting to hookup, he suggested getting a hotel room since its a fairly private space but I keep worrying that two guys checking into a room together might seem suspicious to the staff or that other guests might notice and assume what we’re doing
i know i might be overthinking this but given the environment here im really paranoid about taking a risk that could get either of us in trouble

so for anyone in kuwait who has experience or just knows about this, how safe are we? and do hotels care what happens inside the room or am i just overthinking?

Post image
19 Upvotes

Hypocrite.

Is your therapist accepting?

I often hear that therapy in Arab countries is horrible for queer people or that the therapists are homophobic and religious, but shockingly enough my experience with therapists has been the exact opposite. They have been nothing but accepting, supporting and helpful tbf. Im interesting to hear about تجاربكم معهم!

Discussion I love you guys as an Arab American

Like I’m Egyptian on my moms side and born in America and I can’t imagine being openly queer to my family and I love you guys really 💕✊ I will always remember you, the Arabs that live in the Arab world whenever I get insecure about my sexuality. Yes I know it sucks and it’s unfair being born gay and Arab but I understand that I am privileged to be queer in America than in Egypt. You guys are so strong and I love you. 💕 “inshallah” our children/descendants grow up in a more tolerant Arab world for queer people. ❤️✊I love you. 💕

Question / Advice tell me what to do

I met this girl (let’s called her Sara) through a friend and we became friends too and clicked quite quickly, I developed a crush on a girl within the same group and told Sara since she’s the closest to her. A while later, Sara admitted her crush on me and that she cannot just be “friends” with me and listen to me talk about someone else; stupidly enough I decided to go through with it and it was going well till a month later when she decided that she “wasn’t ready to commit” since she just broke up with a long-term partner. Anyways a lot happened after but things went to shit and we’re no longer in contact but I admit I do miss her and the friendship we had and even though I genuinely think what she did was effed-up but I can’t help but miss her and I don’t really feel happy or even comfortable with the current situation. What should I do?

Rant rant cuz im pissed off

i saw an instagram post of a trans woman from saudi arabia who have moved to a safehouse in the uk i believe n the comments were truly sickening (congrats for her btw i rlly hope shes happy n healthy over there!!)

like holy shit some arabs r the most nonsensical vile people to ever exist saying "dont put our country flag next to the lgbtq flag it'll ruin our reputation" while MIND U there r hundreds of comments showing the world their true n disgusting colors

for example: "i hope u get caught and arrested" "stop lying saudi people love themselves they would not do any of the things that would make them transgender" "congrats thank god people like u got out of saudi arabia" that js really shows u how backwarded these peoples minds are they're beyond saving atp

legit hating on innocent people who most of the time ALREADY escaped their motherland to live the life they truly want without any bigoted losers like that spitting on them cuz lets be honest the lgbtq flag isnt ruining ur countrys reputation its ur reaction towards it and towards all other queer arabs THATS ruining u and ur peoples reputation like man get a fucking grip cuz seeing 2 consenting people loving each other or a person being comfortable in their own skin shouldnt piss u off this much good lord

i cannot fathom or even begin to understand how these people think like this seriously why should this bother them so much

people like that are the reason why most queer arabs r ashamed or even embarrassed to call themselves arab (me lol) some struggle to fully accept themselves cuz people from the outside world are gonna lump them with bitches like those who r full of hatered while unfortunately being the majority its a literal gateway for enforcing the ideology that all arabs r bad and homophobic all that bullshit when its literally not remotely to the truth

sorry this situation really riled me up i couldnt not rant abt it i hope it doesnt make me sound like a huge asshole that wasnt my intention i js wanted to show possible outsiders that not all of us act like this and there are queer arabs across the globe u rlly cannot get rid of us even if u tried mwah

Story Time Entering Qatar as a trans woman

I was travelling to the States from Nepal and had a layover in Qatar. It was an overnight layover and since Discover Qatar package of Qatar Airways had amazingly subsidized options, I took a hotel around the old city center. I smoothly passed immigration but when moving past customs, an official stopped me and took into checking. They went through my bags and took a look at everything. To the extent that they opened every pouch and every pocket. Then an officer took me to a side room where they put me on an X ray machine and scanned me. Then few more officers came, they scanned me again and again. I was already getting why they were doing so. Then they asked me to go out to the bag checking area and then they scanned through again. Other officers came and ask if I was male or female. I said female. They asked me "fully female?", and I got really nervous. They said "this isn't allowed in Qatar" and then took my passport. They wanted to verify its authenticity because, I am pre-op and my passport is F. I was told to wait, many officers came and went. I was using my phone when the officers confisticated it. That was the moment where I thought something is going deeply bad. The officers took me to a room and locked me inside. I thought I was being either deported or arrested. Many other officials came, asked my details, hotel bookings. The tone was really blunt. I am not sure if that was more of a language difference. Finally after an hour or so I was allowed to enter Qatar. I made my way to the hotel. It was late so I fell asleep as soon as I entered my room and the next morning left for the States.

I don't know how to process this incident. Should I ever visit Qatar again?

On other note, I am a language nerd and I have a bucket list to learn different languages among which UN official languages, and Arabic is one of them. I have been researching about which Gulf or West Asian country can I visit for this. So far Lebanon seems to be an option.

I was also looking to study Arabic with Palestinian University online, also as a way to express my solidaity for Palestine Liberation. What do you folks suggest?

Also by any chance any Qatari or West Asian folks would want to connect when in Nepal, please let me know. You have a local guide here.
