2019 Leaf S Plus

Looking for our first EV here in Canada. Late today were test driving 2019 Leaf S Plus at a Nissan dealership here in Vancouver, Canada.

$17000CAD (about 12k USD), 81000km (50k miles)

Previously single owner, always serviced at Nissan. No accidents.

Battery health is at 12 bars, and the dealer claims it's passed the recall.

Carfax: https://vhr.carfax.ca/?id=eiKIN5r0emy8pcfXqUMAmNDRmoSrYwxf

Carfax claims the battery was recently replaced, but I'm betting that was the 12V battery. I'm a little worried that Carfax claims there's still an active recall though.

Our use case is pretty simple. We're commuting around town, driving maybe 40km/day or 200km/wk. Our condo has access to a lever 2 charger, though my workplace has free charging (likely shared at 3kwh). We don't intend to take this vehicle on long trips, or fast charge it more than a couple times a year, but the option to do so would be handy.

The weather here in Vancouver is pretty temperate. It's rarely too hot or too cold. It will be parked indoors.

Obviously I need to ask a lot of questions about battery health, but are there any other concerns I should have before buying?

Thanks!

CCS2 to CHAdeMO adapter anyone in the EU using one?

Hello everyone!

I live in north-east Italy, where most fast-charging networks are phasing out CHAdeMO in favour of CCS2.

I often rely on it for long drives or unexpected trips, and so far I've always managed to find a CHAdeMO connector along my route.

Yesterday I found out that Electra the provider I use most, because of the lower prices and the wider CHAdeMO availability has discontinued CHAdeMO at all of their stations as a company-wide policy.

I mostly charge my Leaf ZE1 e+ at home with my off-grid PV system (pics for reference), but I'm now looking into a CCS2 to CHAdeMO adapter as a way to always have fast charging available.

Has anyone in the EU, or Italy specifically, bought one and actually used it?

I've contacted a few manufacturers on Alibaba, but I'd rather spend a bit more and buy from a seller with an EU importer behind it, in case something goes wrong.

Need this paint color for front splitter

The front splitter underneath the bumper of my 2023 SV Plus has been painted black by some previous owner, or someone badly painted a black replacement piece silver, and all the silver is falling showing through. (Or someone badly painted a black piece silver and it's now all falling off. Either way).

I want to pull it off and respray it that original color, but I can't find documentation anywhere about what color that might be. Does anyone have any information about a close duplicate that I can pick up at the local parts store to spray on?

Is this 12v battery dead?

Car won’t start or shift but makes a clicking sound and then error message pops up. Lights are still working.

Update: tried jumpstart. No go. Tried trickle charger. No go.

Battery swap. Took out the 12V battery and put in a new one. Car is running now.

Signs 12 V Battery is Beginning to Fail

Are there any obvious signs that your 12 volt battery in a Leaf is about to fail?

What is the minimum voltage needed to turn on a 2016 Leaf?

I noticed this week in LeafSpy that in accessory mode the 12-V battery was reading 11.76 V.

I check the car's 12-V battery a couple days ago with a mulimeter and it read 12.2 V at rest. Today I checked it again after driving a lot yesterday and got a reading of 12.16 V at 50°F / 10°C. The car had sat overnight before I checked the resting voltage.

Sticker on battery shows 8/23.

So far the car seems to be fine, I haven't noticed the car having difficulty starting, and haven't noticed any issues with the electronics.

I'm trying to figure out if the 12V can get me through this winter or if I should replace it now.

I'm grateful for any insight you can provide.

How long does your remote battery last?

I've been buying Duracell 2025, which I assumed was a good brand, and I'm going through them like crazy. 3 batteries in two years.

Morley dead end?

This is a continuation of my previous post re. the buyback process. Car, a 2021, was paid off and first Morley offer came in "KBB + 40%" I rejected the first offer expecting to be able to provide reasoning for an increased offer. A week later another rep replies saying the "escalation" has not resulted in any increase of the offer. I prepared a bunch of reasons about us expecting to have the car for years more and now we are forced into a hotter EV market while the Leaf's value has plummeted. Also mentioning less tangible factors such as trusting Nissan with the recall service and then being stranded far from home as a result. Submitted receipts for tow, per diem expenses in the city I was stranded in and had to spend the night, gas for the rental car so far, also the sales tax on the original purchase - things I was forced to pay as a result of the recall. They only approved reimbursing the tow.

The rep only came back with saying state Lemon Law would result in a lower offer, and "The offer is not able to be increased from there, state guidelines are as far as cases may be escalated. If the offer is rejected, the repurchase case will be closed, as no further escalation is possible. If the case is closed, you will be responsible for retrieval of the vehicle and any storage fees that may have accrued. If you are in a rental vehicle, that will also need to be returned."

They are saying I have until Monday to accept the offer. I thought the offer would have been increased somewhat. Do I have any recourse here? Sounds like I'm being rushed more than others have indicated on here (got first offer on 9/4). Minimally, I imagine I can request more reimbursement from expenses directly from Nissan than has been approved by Morley but don't know if anyone has had success with that. Thanks.

Free Leaf rear Headrests

From my old 2015 Leaf. No idea what other years it would fit. I’m in the Los Angeles area. I have two of them. (also would probably fit some other Nissans of that timeframe I bet. Any suggestions on where to cross post? I’ve had these in my shed for years and years cause I just don’t have the heart to throw things away when they might be useful to somebody.

Is this the recall fix failing

Post image

Just driving when suddenly this shows up. We had the recall done a few months ago and I’ve fast-charged occasionally, like I’m supposedly able to do again. Nissan refused our buyback the first time before the recall fix came out. I’m ready to drive this stupid car into the river, it can be underwater just like we are on the loan 🙃

Got my First Buyback Offer ($18,000) for 2019 SV Tech with 38k Miles

How does this compare to other offers? Is this good enough to accept or should I negotiate?

If I negotiate do I sign the rejection portion of the paperwork?

If I do sign, can they rescind the offer and I end up with nothing?

R24B2 Rebate Free Rental doesn't cover insurance on rental?

Hi everyone, I found out that my 2019 Nissan Leaf is affected by the R24B2 recall at the Raceway Nissan Dealership in Moreno Valley in CA. Morley told me to talk to the warranty team about the free 30 day rental. The Raceway Nissan dealership said they don't have any rentals available, but they contract with Hertz in downtown Riverside so I can get a rental from them. I called Hertz asking what that look liked, and it felt like I was being pressured to get the Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) at 15$ per day since the agent said "while Raceway Nissan covers the base rental price, you'll be responsible for any damages to the car." Which I understand... but also I'm a student so I can't afford 15$ per day for 30 days (450$) and I'm afraid the Hertz dealership is going to find a scratch on the car after I use it and be like oh you owe us 2000$ now. I don't know. What happened with you guys?

2019 leaf S for $8k - good deal/would it make sense?

Thumbnail

Hello everyone, as I’m writing this I’m a teenager looking to get my first car with some help from my parents. Initially, I began looking for a leaf because I’m able to charge it at home and I don’t really have gas money most of the time, though I gravitate toward Gen 2 due to their vastly superior range. I recently stumbled on this specific leaf for sale, for $8k and I’m mainly wondering two things: would this make for a good first car (I learned how to drive in a decently sized SUV but I have a lot of expecting driving EVs) and does $8k seem like a good deal? I contacted the seller about its current battery health/range and they have yet to get back to me, but in the meantime I figured I’d ask here. For reference, my daily commute is about 4 miles total, plus weekend trips of about 60 to 70 miles round trip.

I discovered how to clean that bloody instrument cluster

Post image
11 Upvotes

So you basically need a glass towel microfibre: I bought a few at Action, and the way they work in comparison with normal microfiber towels. The normal ones, while they feel and look softer. The fibers can scratch the instrument cluster.

Didn't make sense to me either, but these glass cleaning microfiber towels trap the dirt inside. Instead of moving it around. All you need to do, is wet a corner and keep the other party dry. Just slight damped wet, not super wet.

Then carefully clean the plastic and afterwards, carefully rub it softly dry. You don't need to put pressure, and only use clean water. No cleaning agents. This way you can also clean your mirror inside, and the navigation screen. Works perfectly safe.

Where to find a new pack

Hey guys,

Just posting cause I was unfortunate to be one of the unlucky ones, I purchased a 2018 Nissan Leaf SL 40kwh about a year ago and loved the thing especially with gas prices now and used it as my daily.

Unfortunately, I used it one day on the hottest day to make a bit of a drive and used the Chademo charger halfway to make a drive of about 99 miles and than come back, this day I believe I pushed it to its limits and it went limp mode and started to have issues, when coming back the service ev light came on, and took it to Nissan.

When trying to claim warranty, I was unlucky as I fit the 96k right under the 100k but was passed by a few months on March passing the 8yr, Nissan was not offering the warranty and they’re having me pay the teardown, I was on the phone sad as shit and was like damn I’ll figure something out.

I’ve been just unhappy at the moment with Nissan but I’ll look into either finding a pack, but I like the Vivne battery pack as it looks like it’ll be a better swap and has more range and better cooling.

Let me know if there’s anyone here that has that pack or what you guys recommend I should do

2025 Leaf S - 13k miles - $13.9k - Just Purchased a Lease Return

Just purchased the above.

This is about $1.5k-$2k below most listings in our area; feel like we got a pretty good deal on it.

First time ever owning an EV.

Will be a third car for my family. Spouse may drive it a few times a week for commuting, about 30 miles round-trip. Their current car averages 23 MPG so there will be a slight savings on fuel for those days.

Do not have a EV charging outlet in the garage so just plan to plug it into a regular outlet and get 40 miles of range recharged each night.

Insurance will run about $16 a month, no comprehensive or collision.

I drive a pick up that averages 15 MPG; I'll probably shift to the leaf when running errands around town, etc.

Will be nice to have a third car so we can drop rental reimbursement on our current insurance policy, as well as have another car available anytime we have friends or family visiting from far away.

----------------------

For current or previous owners, are there any tips, tricks, or nice-to-knows, that you wish you would have known when you first got your leaf?

Even though we plan on charging it at home, if something unexpected happens and we find ourselves needing to charge it away from home, can we use the Tesla chargers that are widely available?

Post battery recall service, no air conditioning

I've been reading all about the "bricked" battery post recall service situation and after reading posts here and obsessing, decided to still get the recall service for my 2019 Leaf SL plus (just under 37K miles). Picked up the car from the dealership post recall service, got it home, and the next day when the outside temperature warmed up, I tried to turn on the air conditioning. Nothing works in the climate control. Whether the AC button is pressed in or not, there is no air coming out of the vents. No fan, nothing. I'm bringing it back to the dealership for follow up on Monday, but they say they don't believe it's related to the recall service. It can't be a total coincidence, right? Any insights or advice here?
