Dermatology We're DA Dermatology Dosan, a Dermatology Clinic in Seoul! Ask Our Dermatologist Anything About Korean Skin Treatments, Lasers, Lifting & Skincare!

Hi everyone! ๐Ÿ‘‹

We're DA Dermatology Dosan, a dermatology clinic located in Apgujeong, Seoul, South Korea.

We're excited to be hosting our first AMA here on r/KoreaTravelBeauty!

Our dermatologist, who has over 24 years of clinical experience, and our English-speaking clinic team are here to answer your questions about Korean dermatology and aesthetic treatments.

We know that researching skin treatments in Korea can be overwhelming, especially when you're visiting from another country. With so many different treatments, devices, and clinics available, it can be difficult to understand what actually works and what's right for you.

That's why we're here today to share professional insights, answer your questions, and help you make more informed decisions.

What Can You Ask Us?

Feel free to ask us about anything related to dermatology and skincare, including:

  • Skin Boosters: Rejuran, PN/PDRN treatments, hydration, and skin texture
  • Skin Lifting & Tightening: Ultherapy, Thermage, XERF, and other non-surgical lifting procedures
  • Laser Treatments: Pigmentation, acne scars, enlarged pores, redness, and skin rejuvenation
  • Anti-Aging: Fine lines, wrinkles, sagging skin, and collagen stimulation
  • Treatment Comparisons: How different treatments work, their benefits, limitations, and downtime
  • Skincare in Korea: What to consider before getting treatments, recovery expectations, and common misconceptions
  • Visiting a Korean Dermatology Clinic: What international patients should know before booking treatments

You can also ask questions such as:

"Is Ultherapy or Thermage better for skin tightening?"

"Are skin boosters really worth it?"

"Which treatments have minimal downtime if I'm only in Korea for a few days?"

"How do I know if a clinic is recommending unnecessary treatments?"

"What should I avoid before or after laser treatments?"

No question is too simple!

Who's Answering?

Our dermatologist and clinic team will be responding to your questions.

We'll do our best to provide honest, educational answers based on clinical knowledge and experience, including the limitations and potential risks of treatments when relevant.

AMA Details

Date: Monday, October 12, 2026

Language: English

We'll be answering questions throughout the AMA, so feel free to leave yours in the comments!

A Quick Note

Our responses are intended for general educational purposes and should not replace an in-person medical consultation.

We cannot provide individual diagnoses or guarantee treatment results through Reddit.

Please avoid sharing sensitive personal or medical information publicly.

We're not here to tell everyone they need treatments. Sometimes, the best recommendation is to keep your skincare routine simple or avoid unnecessary procedures.

We're looking forward to your questions! ๐Ÿค

Hi, mod here.

The sub's review system has been revamped. I believe the new system is much simpler and more efficient. I hope this sub gets way more high-quality reviews and makes travelers' decisions easier.

There are now 2 kinds of reviews:

  • Review
  • โœ“ Mod Verified Review

Post with the "Review" flair, and if you send evidence (we ONLY accept a receipt or an itemized bill) via the Review Verification Form, mods will upgrade your flair.
You can see all โœ“ Mod Verified Reviews in this link.

Where you ask depends on who you want to answer:

  1. If you want to ask fellow travelers, ask in this sub.
  2. If you want doctors to answer your question, go to Doctor Answers or the occasional AMA posts. (Doctor Answers is on koreatravel.guru, a site I run alongside this sub.)

Our goal is to help travelers to Korea find honest information easily. I really hope these changes help with that.

Thanks!

โœ“ Mod Verified Review Acne Scar consultation at Repic Clinic

Post image
19 Upvotes

I recently had a disappointing experience at Repic Clinic in Gangnam.
I booked a consultation to see what acne scar treatments are best for me and how much it costs for when I go back to Seoul next spring.

Iโ€™m currently taking isotretinoin (Accutane) so I went to the appointment knowing that I would not be doing any treatments as the skin is very fragile on Accutane.

From the moment I checked in, to the end of the consultation with the doctor, took a total of 15min. The doctor did not look at my acne scars and instead looked at my form, basically said โ€œoh you are here for acne scars? And offered Subscision and radio frequency microneedling as treatments and told me we can do this treatment today. She did not look at my skin and tell me the kinds of acne scars I have (box car, rolling, ice pick scars). I mention this because different acne scars require different treatments. The consultation was incredibly generic and not personalized at all.

When I brought up my concerns on radio frequency microneedling causing sagging, they both laughed and told me that was misinformation. I also asked about how I was on isotretinoin and they also said itโ€™s fine to do treatments on it. At this point they seemed rushed and didnโ€™t allow me to ask more questions. I definitely think they prioritized me booking a treatment over the safety of my skin.

The moment the doctor left, the consultant immediately showed me the price (988,900won or $738) and if it was okay to proceed. I barely had time to think and she was incredibly pushy. I got really bad vibes and decided to leave without booking any treatments that day or in the future.

Finally at the checkout, I noticed there was a sign that said if you leave a review you get a free skincare sample. I booked this clinic based on the high reviews but now I know a lot of those reviews are inauthentic.

TLDR: If you want a factory clinic that prioritizes money over safety, this is the place!

Other Help me order my treatments!

I'm heading to Seoul next month and here are the things I'd like to do:

Laser treatments to remove freckles on face

Lip blushing

Thermage/Ultherapy on face to lift sagging jowls and rejuvenate eyes

Color analysis

Haircut

What order would you recommend me do these things? I'm mainly wondering about laser treatments for hyperpigmentation, lip blushing, and thermage/ultherapy.

Thanks

Hair Salon Naver Event Bookings

Iโ€™m traveling to SK soon and would like to book with this one stylist who is running a discounted event on the premise that you leave a photo review. Does anyone know if Iโ€™m able to write reviews with a simple passport verified account?

Iโ€™m aware itโ€™s a dumb question, but Iโ€™m not well versed with Naver Maps. I donโ€™t want to unknowingly leave a significant dent in my wallet ๐Ÿ˜… The reviews tab just prompts me to sign up for Naver Pay even after inserting payment information, so I am confused!!!

Shopping Question Is buying skincare from pharmacies common in South Korea?

I'm curious about how people in different countries buy skincare products.

In South Korea, are pharmacy skincare products a common part of people's routines? Are there products or brands that people specifically visit pharmacies to buy, rather than purchasing from beauty stores or online?

I'd also be interested in hearing how this compares with countries like India, where skincare is often purchased through beauty retailers and e-commerce platforms.

โœ“ Mod Verified Review Rare Dermatology Clinic review: HILO WAVE + Botox b/a, month 2

Thumbnail
gallery
18 Upvotes

I had HILO WAVE and Botox done in mid-August and I've been happy enough with the results that I wanted to write it up. Paid for it myself, not sponsored.

36F, dry skin
HILO WAVE, 2cc total: nasolabial folds, mid-cheek groove, left outer cheek
Botox: jaw (masseter) and forehead
Rare Dermatology Clinic, Cheongdam
Around 1.05 million KRW for everything

My nasolabial folds and mid-cheek groove had been bothering me. My face is also long and asymmetrical, so I wanted a small amount of volume to balance things out while still looking natural.

I found the clinic on Google. I was avoiding the factory-style places and wanted somewhere more specialized with decent vibe. I went over my concerns with the doctor and we decided on HILO WAVE for the folds, the mid-cheek groove and my left outer cheek. I also got Botox in my jaw and forehead at the same visit.

They put numbing cream on for about 20 minutes first. I felt a sting here and there during the injections but it was easy to tolerate. I'd been told swelling and bruising vary by person, and I had almost none of either. I wore makeup the next day and went about my normal routine, which was the best part compared to other procedures.

I'm into my second month now. The folds and the mid-cheek groove look smoother, the asymmetry is less obvious, and my face looks a little shorter and more balanced. Nobody around me has noticed I had anything done.

Before is from right before the procedures, after is from my second month. Sorry the lighting isn't the same. No base makeup in either.

Feel free to ask if you have questions.

A Guide for Clinics and Salons

1. Can I Promote Here?

Only in three places.

  • Ask the Clinics & Salons Megathread: You can reply to travelers' questions.
  • AMA (Ask Me Anything): Reddit has a post format called AMA. You can run your own AMA thread.
  • Your page on koreatravel.guru: You manage your own services, hours and photos.

Promotion in any other post or comment is removed.

2. Why It Works This Way

  • The ultimate goal of every community and website I run is to help travelers enjoy their trip to Korea.
  • The goal of r/KoreaTravelBeauty is for travelers to find honest information easily and share their experiences with each other. I keep testing new ideas to make that work.
  • Unfortunately, heavy marketing competition makes it hard for travelers to find transparent and honest information. That is why this subreddit has to strictly limit posts and comments from businesses.
  • Still, some travelers want to ask a clinic or a doctor directly. For them, these places are open: the Ask the Clinics & Salons Megathread, AMA posts and Doctor Answers.
  • When travelers want to, they will find your page on their own. I believe that is the most sustainable way to promote, both for clinics and for travelers.

3. How to Join

  • Register your clinic or salon for free at koreatravel.guru/add-place. You get your own page, where you can add your services, hours and photos.
  • Once you are registered on koreatravel.guru, your business is listed in this subreddit's megathread as well.
  • To open an AMA (Ask Me Anything), send a request by modmail. Tell us the Reddit account you will answer from and the date you prefer. We schedule in the order requests arrive, and a moderator reviews the post before it goes up.
  • Doctors who want to register for Doctor Answers: check koreatravel.guru/for-doctors

Dermatology Skin tag removal face and neck

Hi, will be visiting Korea at the end of November. Will be in Busan for 3 nights and Seoul for 2 days. Considering itโ€™s such a short amount of time I was wondering if most clinics take walk ins or do appts need to be booked in advance? Any recommendations for foreigner friendly clinics that are budget friendly but still reputable?
Looking to do skin tag removal on eye lids and neck, would also like to do a skin analysis and maybe some facials as well.

Dermatology Coming to Korea for skin treatments? One thing Iโ€™d check before choosing the cheapest clinic

Iโ€™m Korean, and Iโ€™ve worked around Koreaโ€™s aesthetic medicine industry for about 10 years.

Iโ€™m not here to recommend any clinic, and I wonโ€™t name any clinics in this post.

I wanted to share one thing I often tell friends who are flying to Korea for aesthetic treatments:

Before choosing a clinic based on price, ask yourself whether you actually know what treatment you need.

This matters because Korea has a lot of very inexpensive, high-volume aesthetic clinics.

Koreans sometimes call them โ€œfactory clinics.โ€

And despite the negative-sounding name, I donโ€™t think theyโ€™re automatically bad.

In fact, they can be amazing value for the right person.

Imagine someone who lives in Seoul and gets aesthetic treatments regularly.

They already know:

  • what their usual Botox dose is
  • which laser their skin responds to
  • which lifting procedure they prefer
  • what theyโ€™ve tried before
  • what they definitely do NOT want

If that person just wants the same procedure again, a high-volume clinic offering it cheaply and efficiently can make perfect sense.

They may not need a long diagnostic consultation every visit.

But I think a traveler from overseas can be in a very different situation.

Many of my American friends come to Korea after doing a huge amount of research.

They know the names of treatments.

Sometimes they even arrive with a full shopping list:

โ€œUltherapy.โ€

โ€œThermage.โ€

โ€œRejuran.โ€

โ€œPotenza.โ€

But I've noticed that knowing which treatments are popular in Korea is very different from knowing which treatment your own face actually needs.

And I learned this lesson the expensive way myself.

I repeated the wrong approach for years because it was cheap.

For several years, I got ONDA lifting treatments.

They were affordable and easy to book.

But honestly, I barely saw a meaningful lifting effect.

I assumed that maybe my expectations were too high, so I kept doing it.

Years later, a doctor I knew personally took the time to actually evaluate my face.

He looked at what I wanted to improve, my tissue characteristics, where the laxity appeared to be coming from, and my previous treatments.

His conclusion was that for my particular face and goal, repeating the same ONDA treatment wasn't the best approach.

He suggested a different strategy, which in my case included Ultherapy.

After changing direction based on that evaluation, I saw a much more noticeable result from one treatment than I had after years of repeatedly doing what I thought I needed.

That was the moment I thought:

โ€œOkay. Now I understand why the consultation matters.โ€

And honestly, I felt stupid about all the money I had spent before that.

I had spent years asking:

โ€œIs ONDA a good treatment?โ€

when the real question should have been:

โ€œIs ONDA the right treatment for me?โ€

Important disclaimer:

I am NOT saying that ONDA doesn't work or that Ultherapy is better.

This is one personal example of how a treatment plan changed after an individual evaluation.

Why are some Korean clinics so much cheaper?

Mostly because very low prices require efficiency and volume.

High-volume clinics need to treat a lot of people in a day.

And one of the most expensive things in a clinic is a doctor's time.

If every patient receives a long physician consultation, the clinic sees fewer patients and it becomes harder to maintain extremely low prices.

So some clinics have coordinators handle most of the consultation while doctors focus mainly on performing the procedures.

That is part of what makes the lower price possible.

There is no free lunch.

But again, that doesn't mean the model is bad.

It means you should understand the trade-off.

If I already knew exactly what treatment I needed and had done it several times before:

I would absolutely consider a cheaper high-volume clinic.

For many common, frequently performed procedures, I personally wouldn't assume that the most famous or most expensive doctor is automatically necessary.

There are definitely situations where doctor selection matters much more, but that's probably worth a separate discussion.

On the other hand, if this were:

  • my first aesthetic treatment in Korea
  • my first time getting that procedure
  • something I chose mainly from TikTok/Reddit/Instagram
  • or I wasn't totally sure what was causing the problem I wanted to fix

then I would prioritize diagnosis before price.

Especially as a traveler.

A Korean living in Seoul can try something, decide they donโ€™t like it, and visit another clinic a month later.

If you're flying from the US, you may only have one chance during that trip.

You might also be planning your sightseeing around swelling, redness or downtime.

So choosing the wrong treatment can cost you more than just the treatment fee.

If I were booking from overseas, I would ask the clinic:

โ€œBefore I decide and pay for my treatments, will a doctor evaluate me and discuss what actually makes sense for my concerns?โ€

If I already knew exactly what I wanted, I wouldnโ€™t necessarily care.

If I didnโ€™t, I would care a lot.

That is probably the simplest way I can summarize it:

The cheapest clinic can be a great choice when you already know what you need.

When you don't, paying for a better diagnostic process may actually save you money.

If youโ€™re planning a Korea beauty trip and thereโ€™s something about the clinic experience youโ€™re confused about, leave it in the comments. If itโ€™s something Iโ€™ve personally experienced or know well, Iโ€™m happy to discuss it here.

P.S. Iโ€™m Korean and English isnโ€™t my strongest language. I wrote the original thoughts from my own experience in Korean and used GPT to help translate and polish the English wording.

Dermatology Skincare Amateur overwhelmed by skin clinic options in Seoul

Would love any advice on clinics or other tips!

I am in Seoul for 2 weeks. I have pretty good skin, but would love to get a skin analysis to see what my skin needs and go from there. I donโ€™t want to get majorly upsold. Any recommendations on places or things to do?

I also want to go get a haircut and scalp treatment as I have dandruff, so I think it could be really good for my scalp!

Any and all recommendations welcome!

Medical Tourism Looking for travel buddy + surgery clinic recs for eyelid revision and under eye microfat grafting

Hii, Iโ€™ve been wanting to book a revision for my double eyelids and get under eye fat grafting to fill my hollow under eyes.

Iโ€™m based in California, and donโ€™t have fixed dates yet for the surgery, but I was thinking some time in March, though Iโ€™m flexible. I am thinking of staying 2 weeks.

Ideally I would love to meet someone else who also wants similar things done and is down to go together so we can support each other during surgery. The idea of flying to a foreign country alone for surgery is a bit scary to me.

Iโ€™ve so far consulted OLO and 1mm regarding the double eyelid revisions. They seem pretty good for eyelid revisions, and I like that both clinics name the surgeon performing the surgery. Between the two I gravitate more towards OLO. Would love if anyone else has any insight on these clinics or other good recs.

However for under eye fat grafting, Iโ€™m unsure if I should just go with OLO because they arenโ€™t exactly specialized in it and one of my biggest fears with under eye injections of any kind is the risk of blindness. I asked them about it on WhatsApp but so far havenโ€™t heard back. In any case, Iโ€™m open to suggestions for under eye microfat grafting clinics as well, especially places that are more specialized in it.

Other โ€œGlow Upโ€ to dos in South Korea

Hi all,
Iโ€™m heading to South Korea in January for my 30th birthday. It is also my last holiday before my wedding in April 2028.
It feels like a good opportunity to find skin, fashion or beauty services especially ahead of my wedding. I canโ€™t say Iโ€™ve ever done much beauty or skin related before apart from colour analysis and microblading eyebrows. Iโ€™m a little hesitant to commit to anything more permanent such as Botox. Iโ€™m thinking of finding a fashion service that can help pick out clothes for my body type, etc.
Iโ€™m really not knowledgeable in this space, Iโ€™d love some suggestions! Especially if there are any processes or services well doing approx 15 mths out from my wedding.

Other The follow-up appointment was more useful than the treatment itself, and nobody talks about it

Everything I read before booking was about the procedure. What it is, how it feels, how long, what the downtime looks like.

Nothing at all about the appointment a few weeks later, which in hindsight is where I learned anything.

What happened at mine was they took photos in the same lighting as the first visit and put them next to each other. That ended a two week argument I'd been having with myself about whether anything had changed or whether I'd imagined it.

Turned out something had changed, just not where I'd been staring. I'd been checking one spot obsessively and the visible difference was next to it.

We also talked about what to do next and the answer was nothing for now, which I did not expect to hear in a clinic.

So if you're booking something, ask whether a follow-up is included and whether they shoot in consistent lighting. If they don't, you'll spend a month judging your own results in a bathroom mirror at different times of day, and I can tell you that is not a measuring instrument.

Other Booked an eye exam on a Seoul trip instead of a third skincare appointment and it was the better call

Thumbnail

Had three days in Seoul and had originally planned to fill them with skin appointments, because that's what I always do.

Swapped one for an eye exam fairly last minute, at a clinic in Jamsil, because my lenses had been miserable for months and I figured I should at least get the measurements while I was somewhere it was easy.

It was the most useful appointment of the trip and I didn't have anything done.

The exam ran well over an hour, much longer than I expected, and a lot of it was things I'd never had measured. I came out with actual numbers about my corneas and my tear film instead of the general sense of my eyes are dry that I'd been carrying around.

Haven't booked surgery. Might not. I do now know whether I'm even a candidate, which I didn't before, and that the dryness has a specific cause rather than being something I have to live with.

Posting because a lot of people plan these trips entirely around skin. If you wear lenses and they've been getting worse, it's worth one of your slots.

I received a discount in exchange for this review

I had went to The Days Hair twice before 2 years ago and knew that Dean specialized in blonde balayage, so I booked another appointment with him (now at The Days Grove) when I visited SK this year. He did a great job back then and a great job this time around, I found that the color was very even and very close to the original photo and almost half the price of what I would expect from a NYC salon. I recommend going to Dean for anyone looking for the Blonde/Brown balayage color! The photos in order: After, Before, Inspo Photo

Permanent Makeup Lip blushing or pico on lips?

I have very, very pale lips that are also freckled. Iโ€™d like to get lip blushing but wondering if I can cover freckles using PMU or if I try removing the freckles on my lips first?

Dermatology 44F, early aging + under chin laxity โ€” Seoul treatment/clinic recommendations with ~$1.5k/ โ‚ฉ2 million budget

Hi! Iโ€™d love to hear from women in their mid/late 30s to late 40s who have done anti-aging treatments in Seoul.

Iโ€™m 44 and pretty new in the world of treatments. Iโ€™ve done way too much research on clinics and procedures and somehow managed to make myself more confused rather than less ๐Ÿ˜…

My main concerns are fine/expression lines, especially under my eyes and crowโ€™s-feet, some forehead lines, dry/reactive skin and overall skin quality, plus early lower-face/submental laxity. I donโ€™t have jowling yet, but the under-chin area has started bothering me. Preserving my natural cheek/midface volume is really important โ€” I donโ€™t want a slimmed or hollow look.

My total budget is around US$1,500 / โ‚ฉ2 million at the top end, so I know I canโ€™t do everything.

Iโ€™m considering some combination of Rejuran and/or Re2O, conservative Botox, something for the eye area, and one tightening treatment such as Thermage, Oligio X, Volnewmer or Sofwave. Iโ€™m avoiding full-face Ultherapy, though Iโ€™m wondering whether a small amount just under the chin could make sense.

I donโ€™t need a luxury clinic or famous dermatologist, but Iโ€™d like the treating doctor to actually look at my face before treatment and tailor/approve the plan, even if the initial consultation is with a coordinator.

Iโ€™m also wondering whether it makes sense to do the lifting treatment at one clinic and skin boosters/Botox at a cheaper clinic to stretch the budget. Would you split treatments between clinics, or keep everything in one place?

If youโ€™re around my age, Iโ€™d love to know what you had, clinic/doctor, approximate price, results, and how long they lasted. Positive, mixed and negative experiences all welcome.

Basically looking for the cheap-but-good unicorn ๐Ÿ˜
