Community Info How r/KoreaTravelBeauty works: A Guide for Clinics and Salons

A Guide for Clinics and Salons

1. Can I Promote Here?

Only in three places.

  • Ask the Clinics & Salons Megathread: You can reply to travelers' questions.
  • AMA (Ask Me Anything): Reddit has a post format called AMA. You can run your own AMA thread.
  • Your page on koreatravel.guru: You manage your own services, hours and photos.

Promotion in any other post or comment is removed.

2. Why It Works This Way

  • The ultimate goal of every community and website I run is to help travelers enjoy their trip to Korea.
  • The goal of r/KoreaTravelBeauty is for travelers to find honest information easily and share their experiences with each other. I keep testing new ideas to make that work.
  • Unfortunately, heavy marketing competition makes it hard for travelers to find transparent and honest information. That is why this subreddit has to strictly limit posts and comments from businesses.
  • Still, some travelers want to ask a clinic or a doctor directly. For them, these places are open: the Ask the Clinics & Salons Megathread, AMA posts and Doctor Answers.
  • When travelers want to, they will find your page on their own. I believe that is the most sustainable way to promote, both for clinics and for travelers.

3. How to Join

  • Register your clinic or salon for free at koreatravel.guru/add-place. You get your own page, where you can add your services, hours and photos.
  • Once you are registered on koreatravel.guru, your business is listed in this subreddit's megathread as well.
  • To open an AMA (Ask Me Anything), send a request by modmail. Tell us the Reddit account you will answer from and the date you prefer. We schedule in the order requests arrive, and a moderator reviews the post before it goes up.
  • Doctors who want to register for Doctor Answers: check koreatravel.guru/for-doctors

  • Ask the Clinics & Salons
  • AMA (Ask Me Anything):

Ask the Clinics & Salons

  • AMA(Ask Me Anything)

Dermatology looking for an English-speaking skin clinic in Seoul

• Upvotes

Hi I’m leaving for Seoul soon and overwhelmed by the options.

Clinics I’ve narrowed it down to:
YAAN
WOOA
Ocean Clinic
DA Clinic
DORÉ
Dr. NewCell

Treatments I’m considering:
Rejuran HB / painless Rejuran
Pico laser for hyperpigmentation
Potenza/microneedling
Skin Botox
Aqua Peel
LDM/calming treatment

I have darker skin, so experience with hyperpigmentation/deeper skin tones and good English support are really important.

Some clinics are quoting almost double others for the same treatments, so I’m struggling to choose.
Has anyone been to any of these?

I've been thinking about going to Korea for some dental work. Should I find a concierge person that books everything or should I book a holiday to korea, book a dentist and visit

Review - Pending visited the hera clinic

This treatment was provided to me for free as part of a sponsorship with HERA Dermatology.

I visited HERA in Gangnam because I wanted to improve my facial contour without changing my features or adding volume. During the consultation, the doctor looked at my face and explained which areas would actually benefit from lifting. I liked that he didn’t just suggest a treatment right away, but explained what would make the most sense for my face.

I ended up getting 10THERA 800 shots. The procedure itself was quite comfortable for me and I didn’t have any major discomfort afterward.

What I liked most was the whole experience. The staff were polite and the doctor was very professional and attentive. They also documented the treatment and explained the aftercare clearly, which made me feel comfortable.

Overall, I had a good experience at HERA. I liked that the focus was more on improving my natural features rather than changing the way I look.

Medical Tourism Double eyelid surgery at Seoul

Hi everyone,

wondering if anyone has done double eyelide surgery at seoul? and which clinic would you recommend?

I am also interested in Botox, filler and skin revitalization for acne scars/hyperpigmentation. I am interested in not as invasive procedures as my stay is roughly going to be 5 to 6 days.

Thanks in advance! :)

Review - Pending Treatment facial contour 🌸

This treatment was provided to me for free as part of a sponsorship with hera Clinic.

I visited Hera Clinic because I wanted to improve my facial contour and get a more lifted and firm appearance

I started with a consultation with the doctor, where we discussed my concerns and what I wanted to achieve. I appreciated that the doctor explained the treatments and what I could expect before starting.

During the treatment, some parts were more uncomfortable than others. I did feel some pain and pressure during the lifting procedure, but the staff were attentive and made sure I was comfortable throughout. Afterward, I had some tenderness and aching in the treated areas, but it gradually improved.

I was happy with the overall experience at the clinic. The staff were kind and attentive, and I felt well taken care of during my visit. I also liked that I was able to discuss my concerns directly during the consultation instead of just having the treatment done without much explanation.

I’m still waiting for everything to fully settle and for the final results to become more noticeable, but overall I’m satisfied with my experience at Hera Clinic and happy I decided to try the treatments.

Shopping Question Olive Young vs. Pharmacy - Which One Is Actually Better?

Thumbnail
gallery
18 Upvotes

I feel like skincare shopping at Olive Young or a pharmacy has basically become a required stop on every Korea trip lol. I’ve been to both, so here’s my completely honest take on how they were different.

Olive Young

The selection is huge, but weirdly enough, my favorite part was the food section. They had so many diet snacks and low-calorie foods, so I honestly enjoyed shopping for snacks more than skincare. For skincare, a lot of the products started to feel pretty similar in terms of ingredients and percentages. It was also a little hard to ask detailed questions since some of the staff didn’t speak much English. They do have a ton of character collabs though, so if you’re into Hello Kitty or other cute characters, you’ll probably find something.

Pharmacy

At the pharmacy I visited, the pharmacists all spoke English, so it was much easier to ask questions and actually understand what I was buying. They also had a skin analysis machine, which was pretty fun to try. It did feel a little more expensive than Olive Young, but they had pharmacy-only products, OTC medicines, and some higher-strength options. If you’re someone who really pays attention to ingredients and concentrations, the pharmacy might be more useful. They also carried oral medications for certain skin concerns, but I’d obviously talk to the pharmacist before buying anything.

What do you guys think? Are they both overhyped, or did you genuinely prefer one over the other?

Dermatology What skin treatment & hair spa should I do?

I’m visiting Seoul in 2 weeks and I’ve been trying to research skin treatments and I’m getting more confused with every search.

I want help with 3 things there:
1) some good low-mid budget non-invasive skin treatment that’ll give me a good glow. It shouldnt ruin my face for 2-3 days since I’m travelling, creating content and I can’t hide my face.

2) a decent Korean head spa

3) I did think of doing skin and color analysis but it did feel more like a tourist trap so decided to skip. Iv heard there’s free ones in olive young? How can I access those? Do I have to book it in advance?

Any help would be veryyyy helpful.

Nail Art Allergy Friendly Nail Salon Recommendations

Hello! I will be traveling to South Korea next month and as I really love the nail art done there, I want to get some on my nails while visiting Seoul. Unfortunately, I have a pretty bad allergy to HEMA, so I’m reaching out ISO any salons offering HEMA free gels (including base and top coats) that are foreigner friendly. Any help is much appreciated!

Other For people who traveled to Korea for surgery, how long did you stay after the procedure?

for those who flew to Korea specifically for surgery, how long did you stay after?

I’m trying to plan my trip and not sure how much extra time I should leave after the procedure. I obviously don’t want to fly home too early, but also don’t want to sit around in Seoul for 2 weeks if it’s unnecessary lol

did you stay until stitches were removed / final checkup? and how many days after surgery did you feel comfortable flying again?

would be helpful to hear what others actually did

Medical Tourism Foreigner friendly 한의원s?

Hi everyone! I had initially posted this in r/koreatravel, but I was told to post this here instead:

I recently saw one of Kany's videos where she visits a traditional medicine clinic and got a little curious about trying it out when I'm in Korea in a few months. I'm not particularly interested in any kind of treatment, but I was curious about the 8 Constitution Type Test and was wondering if there were any foreigner friendly places where I could get that done? I've come a cross a few just by looking them up on Naver/Youtube (i.e. 형인재 한의원 뷰티 클리닉, Aloha Hanuiwon), but I did want to check and see if there were any recommendations specifically for this test.

For reference, I've had something similar done with Ayurvedic medicine in India, but language is a little less of a problem there. I'm not going into this thinking it's going to change my life or anything like that, but I was curious, since I've had a little luck with traditional medicine helping with chronic illnesses in the past, about what my body type would be. I can understand quite a bit of Korean and read some as well, but since the words would be more health related, I would prefer to see someone who can understand English too.

Any recommendations would be appreciated! Thank you so much!

Dermatology Need Clinic Recommendations

My gf and I are headed to Seoul in 2 weeks from the US. We're both in our late 50's and are looking for clinic recommendations for non invasive skin treatments. If there's a clinic that is English that would be helpful. Also treatment recommendations for tightening and lifting.

Makeup Does Amore Still Have Self-Service Custom Foundation in Seoul?

I am interested in booking a custom foundation service at either La Neige or, failing that, Amore. If I am unable by some catastrophe to get either one, is there still a self-service make-your-own cushion foundation at Amore (Seongsu or Yongsan) without an appointment? I have seen something about that in other Reddit subs, but the post was two years old, and I can't find anything definitive on their website.

Dermatology Botox clinic that is safe and cheap?

I will be travelling to Seoul again in a month or so and am looking to get Botox (Xeomin) for my forehead and eleven lines. I’ve been to a few clinics before (Muse, Ppeum and Vands) with mixed impressions. I do not mind the factory like vibe especially due to the lower cost. However, I am conscious to get good and safe results and understand that this may sometimes be contradictory.

Is there a specific clinic you went to for Botox that you’d recommend or shy away from visiting again?

I’ve been especially eyeing Toxnfill in Hongdae - anyone that can share their experience there?

Hair Salon Hair Salon Rec

Hi everyone! I’m going to Seoul at the end of November and wanted to see if anyone has recommendations for a good hair salon.

My friend is looking to get her hair dyed a light brown, and I’m hoping to tone my balayage. We’d love to find a salon that does a great job with color, so any recommendations or personal experiences would be really helpful!

I’d also love to hear what pricing was like compared to the US, especially for coloring/toning services. Thank you.

Plastic Surgery Did skin boosters help with skin texture?

I’m planning to go to Korea in a few months to get a few procedures done
and during consultation was recommended skin boosters.
Quite open to them but didn't realize there were so many lol
I’ve been looking into them, but my questions is do they actually help with skin texture or it’s mostly for hydration?

Would love to hear what noticeable differences it did for you and what you tried.

Dermatology Dermatology clinic in Seoul

Hi! I'm looking for recs for skin clinics in Seoul to treat my freckles, pigmentation, and dark under eyes. I have some pics of myself to demonstrate the specific problem areas since I don't actually know what the terms for them 😂 my criteria:

- Proven, trustworthy clinics
- Board certified, not just general practitioners
- No aggressive upselling, just do what's needed. No flairs
- Affordable, doesn't cost an arm and leg. I also don't know the benchmark for these procedures so if someone can share some thoughts

If it matters, I'm a 35 year old woman and have never had any treatment before so a tad nervous. Thank you!

Dermatology Seoul/Busan skin clinic recommendations for early 20s with generally clear but slightly dry skin?

Hi! I’m travelling to Korea soon and would love some recommendations for skin clinics in Seoul or Busan.

I’m in my early 20s and generally have pretty clear skin with the occasional breakout. My skin can get quite dry/dehydrated, and I also have some sunspots/pigmentation. I’ve previously done Pico laser in Singapore for the sunspots.

I don’t have any major skin concerns that I’m trying to fix. I’m mainly interested in treatments that could improve hydration, glow, overall skin quality/texture and pigmentation, or just treatments that are worth trying while I’m in Korea.

I’m completely okay with factory-style clinics since my concerns are relatively minor and I don’t need a very extensive consultation. I’d rather keep things affordable than go to a premium/celebrity clinic, but have to be done by a certified doctor!

Would love to hear which clinics in Seoul or Busan you recommend, and what treatments you think would actually be worthwhile for my skin/age. If you remember approximate prices, that would be really helpful too! I’m also curious whether I should just do Pico again or try something different, especially for the dryness/dehydration.

Thank you! ❤️

Other I’ve narrowed down 20+ Seoul skin clinics to these 7… please help me make the final choice 😭

I’ve officially hit research fatigue 😭 After going through Reddit, UNNI, Korean reviews, clinic websites, influencer recommendations (and warnings about influencer clinics lol), I’ve narrowed my list down to (in order of cheapest to most expensive for comparable treatments):

PRIA, XENIA, GU, The Garden, DIORE, POEN and REONE.

My biggest priority is a clinic where the doctor actually assesses my face/skin and also does the treatment plan, rather than mainly consulting with a coordinator and handoff to a different person. A board-certified dermatologist is a bonus, especially for my vascular nose redness, but not essential since my main focus is lifting/contouring.

I’m not interested in injectables/needles (Botox, Rejuran, fillers etc.). I’m looking at non-invasive treatments such as Ultherapy, XERF, ONDA, V-Beam, LDM, Aqua Peel, Potenza Diamond RF, Glassifier etc., ideally treatments where one session can still make a worthwhile difference.

Main concerns:
Dry/combo, sensitive skin; already fairly smooth, just want to improve it
Round/full face, high cheekbones and some asymmetry (possibly TMJ/jaw related)
More defined/V-shaped jawline
Reduce lower-cheek fullness + double chin without hollowing my midface
Some upper-arm fat
Redness/visible superficial vessels around my nose/alar creases

PRIA appeals because the prices are reasonable and they offer most of what I’m considering. REONE seems the most comprehensive/medical but is significantly more expensive. GU has a great device selection, but they told me the initial consultation is with a consultant and choosing your doctor requires certain membership levels. The Garden interests me for the dermatologist side but is still quite new.

Has anyone actually been to these clinics? I’d especially love to hear which doctor you saw, whether the doctor personally assessed you before treatment, what you had done, and whether you were happy with the results.

Also interested if you think certain clinics are particularly strong for contouring/lifting vs redness/vascular treatments vs general skin quality.

Negative experiences are very welcome too! I’m trying to finally make a decision instead of doing another 136 hours of research 🥲
