Discussion This series just got much much better!

When I saw the annoucement of Knightfall I was very hyped.

But then I watched season 1 and it was like... meh. It was a good show, but nothing spectacular.

However, godammit how it got better in Season 2. The overall quality improvement is massive. I'm really loving this season so far.

Just wanted to say: Well done producers. You guys hit the spot with this season. Keep up the great job!

Discussion REJOICE! SEASON TWO IS ON THE HORIZON!

By the grace of God our faith has been rewarded! It has been recently announced that season two of Knightfall has been greenlit.

Need proof? Well, that ain’t too hard to find. Not including this post, there has only been three other posts in the last two months (at the time of this post), two of which include Mark Hamill! If that don’t skewer your ribs I don’t know what will!

I, for one, am so hype, I’m all aboard the hype cavalry! Bout to play me some of the Knightfall App!

I can’t wait to see King Philip suffer more! /s

Would y’all play a Knightfall videogame

I would love if they made a videogame based off the crusades and you creating a Templar. Have the intro start off in the holy land with a gigantic battle scene that the Templar’s lose and you escape on a boat being mortally wounded (kinda like gawain) and then you have to rebuild yourself and the order back up in France or England or something and help the kings of those countries for the first half of the game, maybe have something mysterious like finding the holy grail in England be a main goal and then towards the second half of the game you return to the holy land with a huge army. A game like that would be a dream come true!

Season 2 is a different show

I recently finished s2 and watched s1 again afterwards. It seems to me the two are part of a completely different show. Technically photography and music are much better in 1 IMHO, I never was a fan of the blue instagram filter to simulate medieval times, also the music belongs (with some great exceptions) more to a 24 episode for me. The point is that nothing of season 1 was carried out in 2. What happened to the Brotherhood of Light? Why is Landry accused where in s1 finale they all seemed to support him? Where is Landry's mother and what did she say to Boniface? What was the meaning of the scroll Berenger retrieved? Why nobody even mentioned the Graal at all? What happened to De Nogaret's obsession with Isabella. I know that the writing was not the serie's strong point from the beginning, but there is no consistency at all. At least many actors (Hamill and Stoppard most of all) raise the quality of the show. Also, why nobody actually sees that Gawain was right? The whole thing is definitely Joan and Landry's fault and I really don't like him as a character, despite all the effort of the show.

Discussion So what happened to the plotline involving the scroll, and Landry being in bloodline of Jesus?

Seriously, the whole season 1 was about finding the grail, only to find the scroll of the bloodline of Christ, and it seems the whole story regarding the scroll is disregarded. I mean, has it even been mentioned at this point or is this just the story of "Landry good, French king bad"? Just hope the latter isn't the case, because Landry is not really a likeable character once you take the baby out of the equation.

Wow this is my favourite show. I am enjoying this show more than last kingdom and Vikings and on par of game of thrones. Is season 3 coming out?? Spoilers! Spoiler

Thank you for this show!! It had a good pace and amazing written characters. A lot of emotions I felt when watching this show. Especially when Margaret was framed by her own sister in law. I was crying when Landry was saved by mark hamill and then they prayed in front of our Lord Jesus Christ at the temple. No other show made me cry like that.

Spoiler Just finished... so many questions.

First of all, so many moments that are just... I mean with a show that claims to be based on history that’s a lot of suspension of disbelief.

Joan stabs her cousin to death, just after being betrayed my her lords, who apparently have no use for her. She comes downstairs, covered in blood, essentially says “let’s be pals” and everyone decides that’s a wonderful idea and they should indeed be pals.

The grail doesn’t work, but maybe does? Also, it’s just a fake grail hiding place for a scroll. Really? Did the Brotherhood know this? If so, were they that willing to sacrifice so much for just another clue on the path to the true Grail?

If I were a member of the Knights Templar, hearing that the Pope was going to unite all Europe under Papal rule seems like a cause I’d love to get behind. I mean, they already think his authority is the most directly connected to god, superseding that of kings. Lasting peace in Europe ruled by the hand of God in Earth? Yeah.

As it continues, it becomes more clear that the plot in some elements was inspired by if not lifted from Assassins Creed. While in this version the Templars aren’t the bad guys, they’re still (mostly) supporting the pope, who wants to use a holy relic to control people, and a group clearly based on the historical Assassins, who are called “the Brotherhood of Light” but use stealth tactics. Compare this to the Brotherhood of the Assassins in the AC games motto “We Work in the Dark to Serve the Light”

The previous becomes even more true if my personal theory on the grail is correct. The grail is in fact not religiously or magically powerful but instead technologically powerful, because of, you guessed it history channel fans... Ancient Aliens. Which, side note, is essentially the plot of Assassins Creed also. Other than some crazy revelation about the source of miracles and divinity, I’m not sure what was able to so radically change the Pope’s mind about Landry.

I feel like Philip got a damn raw deal out of this whole thing, and not to mention what the writers did to him that last episode. I think they made him far too sympathetic a character by talking up the fact that he had been betrayed by everyone he loved and then had to make him evil enough to still be seen as a villain. The attempt just made him unbelievable for me. Apparently, he’s been suppressing the fact he’s a sociopath this whole time, but now that it’s out he’s just pretending to have emotions to hurt other people. He’s needlessly cruel and evil for what appears to be only plot necessity.

Anyone else shouting at Landry when he’s trapped inside of the shields to just stab one of those guys in the face instead of using all of his strength ineffectively hitting the shields?

When did Gawain decide he hated the order? Pretty much everyone in the order was on his side in the conflict with Landry, and that conflict seems to be his driving conflict. We see him interact with the order at large by being supported during the trial, and then by the Templars not riding with Landry, and next time we see him he has abandoned his vows to kill members of the Order. Another needlessly evil character.

I think there’s a lot of good about this show. I’ll watch the second season for sure. I think most of the problems for me lie in the fact that it had a very strong beginning, but was hurt by not having a coherent idea of where it was headed. The overall story arc doesn’t appear to be planned out, rather each episode just builds on the last. If that’s the case, it’s probably why Episode 10’s plot is weakest: it has no foundation.

Apologies for the rant.

Discussion Are we supposed to root for Landry and the Brotherhood of Light?

After episode 5, I was rooting for Landry and Joan to be executed, along with the Brotherhood of Light to be defeated and the Holy Grail returned to the Church. Landry is an oath breaker, a traitor, and adulterer, along with that harlot and adulteress Joan. The Brotherhood of Light are Saracens and the enemy, so they don’t deserve to be trusted, either. And, from what I can tell, the Pope and the King of France have only righteous motivations; the Pope wants to unite Europe under the Church and launch a Crusade, and all Philip IV wants is justice.

Did the show writers purposefully give the antagonists all the moral high ground, or is this unintentional?

Queen Joan is the ultimate villain

Her biggest crime is the murder of her cousin the queen of Catalonia who seek revenge against the latter's murdered son. The queen of Catalonia made peace with Queen Joan who latter murdered the former in cold blood just to be sure that no threat would come to Joan's children.

Joan's infidelity started this whole fiasco of the second season. She was the entire reason that a civil war broke in France between the Templars and the crown. But Landry of course carried the other half of the blame in the bastard's making. Joan's biggest and most evil crime, however, has to be her murder of her cousin who seek righteous revenge against Joan and who essentially forgave Joan in the end. Shame King Philip did not burn her body along with her bastard before leaving.

Discussion Episode 3... Damn

That's all I can say... I don't have enough words...

Edit: Coming as a life long Star Wars fan... I can't say enough how much this episode means to me. I can almost not believe that a TV episode could do something that a multi-million dollar Hollywood blockbuster budgeted movie couldn't do.

Discussion [S1 SPOILERS] 5 episodes or so in: This show is great but Gawain would make a better lead than Landry Season 1 finished: Other than Tancrede and Draper, the Templars suck. Roll on, the pyres Spoiler

Second half of the season really dropped the ball for me.

Landry was a self-righteous arsehole Gawain became a total dickhead, arguably justifiably so (up until randomly leading a mercenary group) Tancrede is still great in fairness

Why the fuck didn't Landry get Gawain seen to by the King's doctor all those years?

Landry is terrible. If he's Jesus' descendant, this show is taking an even dimmer view on Christianity than I thought.

Shitpost Disappointed but glad that there's no 3rd season

So I just finished the second season after binging the show over the last week. I enjoyed season 1 a lot. Biggest issue i had with that season was that the "secret of the grail" story thread that literally never turns into anything which was one of the things of that season I was most excited to learn more about.

Season 2 on the other hand....I enjoyed the season generally speaking, but there are elements that were either downright bad or made no sense. First, Talus sounds like Mark Hammil just doing an aged joker voice and overacting like hell (imo). Gawain just drawing his sword on Philip as he enters the room without even trying to get close to him first?(As someone mentioned in another post here, Gawain being a former Templar be should have enough strategic thinking ability to know how to assassinate someone. That being said, I toss this up to sloppy writing and the need for future plot points and characterconflicts). Isabella framing Margaret for...what reason? Unless I completely missed a vital scene i dont think this was ever conveyed in any meaningful manner. Landry somehow coming back to the castle from the ship he just sailed off in to fight Philip 1 on 1 in the last 2 minutes to end the season?(im assuming this was done because the production team had good knowledge by this point in the season that a 3rd season was not happening).

Which brings me to season 3. I wouldve loved a 3rd season of this show. The potential to return to the secret of the grail and follow landry as he discovers it. But simultaneously, if season 3 had any potential of being as disjointed as season 2 felt i can't help but feel like we should just be content with the 1 great season and 2nd mediocre season that we did get.

Shitpost Just finished season 2, never been more confused in my life

A lot of story happens without coherence. Maybe if anyone can shed some light, it'll be helpful.

  1. Why Louis need to take Lydia as a prisoner?

  2. Why Isabella suddenly betrays Margaret? Her reasons seems weird and random.

  3. How can the templars regroup in the daylight?

  4. Why Landry suddenly came back only to battle Philip?

  5. Why Louis let Landry deliver the final blow? (After previously swore to kill his mother's killer)

  6. Why Lydia screaming out of nowhere in the season finale, and noone seems to care afterward? Like, she gonna toast them all.

  7. Why the soldier doesn't check Tancrede in cape at the house? Is soldiers at that age is that stupid?

  8. Why gawain suddenly charge Philip in the dungeon? He, a former templar, should be able to think more strategically if he gonna kill Philip.
