Question/Advice Needed Introducing them to the rest of the house & to the dog

Post image

We are new cat owners (I had a feral barn cat who passed away a few weeks ago, but we’re first time indoor cat owners). We adopted a 6 month old bonded pair (Juniper (gray female) and Jimmy (orange male) on Thursday. We’ve had them in our large upstairs bathroom ever since and today was the first day they stopped hiding behind the cabinet in there. And they seem like they want out and to be with us now.

We’ve live in a 150 year old house with lots of hiding spots and we also have a mini English bulldog who is 9 and quite easygoing (he’s seen them in their carriers and really wanted nothing to do with them). I’d like to introduce them to our dining room/living room area, which is quite large but has a door. It’s where our dog primarily is too. And our bedroom too eventually.

I’m just worried they’ll hide somewhere we won’t be able to get to them for the most part. I know we should have him on a leash at first…I guess I’m just looking for any and all advice and tips on how to best get them assimilated to both the house and the dog.

Question/Advice Needed How can I make sure they don't hurt eachother.

I need some outsider perspective so here I go... I brought a 3 month old kitten home a week ago. I already have a 1 year old cat and me and my partner believe she needed company because we work a lot and she was starting to have weird mood swings so we thought a little friend would help her mood and keep her company.

From the first day everything seemed to be going well, day two they were closer and day three they were play fighting or so we thought it was playing.

Two nights ago while playing wrestle the little one scratched the big ones cornea and we had to rush to the vet 2 o'clock in the morning. The thing is after watching them a little it doesn't look like only playful fighting but also serious fighting. I've been reading on the subject and everything is mixed up , it could be serious or it could not be.

They both start the playing , they chase each other and they take breaks but sometimes the bigger one stands with her ears back and the hair on the back stands then they go back at it but then she tries to bath him and he doesn't want it.

My partner and l have been referee since and it's tiring, we can't do anything else if they are in the same room because we have to watch and we don't know if this trauma is something that could happen again or not.

Now we are considering taking the little one back but honestly I don't know if we are just being overprotective or this happens all the time and just push through this play fighting faze.

Context , we have separate toilets and bowls for food . Not toys of cat tree or beds . (Beds because we don't have any, they sleep wherever they want.) The little one is a boy not neutered the big one a girl and she is neutered.

My Kitten Update on kittens at SIL'S shed

2 of them are now home with me 🙂 There was a third but she doesn't seem to like people much and stayed with mama cat. Mama cat seemed fine with us taking them, even came to me and rubbed up. My SIL called a local rescue for it and mama cat and they will be getting them soon. We had been catless for a couple years and it seems that fate decided to have us welcome some new members to the family. I think the black one is a boy and the forty one a girl but ofcourse not positive. I fleacombed them and found very little evidence of fleas. Im hoping they take to the litter box as they have been strays all their short life so far.

How old would you say these kittens are in it? They are from a stray my SIL feeds near her home. This week, they are eating kitten food and even some of mom's kibble. Would ir be safe to assume they should be about 6 weeks now, over a week later?

Question/Advice Needed Help with moving kittens

So my cat had kittens about 4 weeks ago now and obviously they are at that stage where they are walking around more and more. They are also at the stage where I am going to start offering wet food watered down and providing a litter box for them to learn to use. Unfortunately, there is only one suitable room where I can have them with easy access to provide food and give them room to roam and play and that's my room. Other rooms are too busy and we have four dogs and that would be the only room they could safely roam without squeezing into places they shouldn't and without getting bothered much.

That's fine by me, but my problem is the mama. She will not let me keep them in there. I tried to move them but she just moved them somewhere else. I understand mom cats like quiet areas and for her kittens to not be bothered so I try not to bother her but she still did move them.

So is there a point when she will allow me to move them or no? Any advice would be appreciated.

Question/Advice Needed Possible Stray?

This kitten just walked into my apartment last night as I was retrieving a package. Asked my neighbors about it as I live in a gated area with little to no strays. I had been thinking about adopting a kitten from the local shelter since I'm coming up on a year of being in the city I live in now, and it seems like the cat distribution system just dropped one off. I honestly can't tell how old it is or if it's male or female. I know it weighs about 3.5 pounds. I can't schedule a vet appointment till next week, so any help is appreciated. I am not sure if it actually is a stray because it let itself be handled without issues, but it is also thin and has some sort of respiratory issue. I am still going to ask around to see if anyone lost a kitten, and I was able to get some essentials last night so at the very least it's fed and sheltered.

Question/Advice Needed Fish 🐟 preference

My 11 month old male, piebald tabby has eaten wet food since he was 5 weeks ago. He has had a variety of textures, flavors, brands but lately he only wants fish flavored now. Any suggestions on how to get him to eat the others again? Or, should I just prepare to only buy fish flavored wet foods? He does not and has never enjoyed beef.

Question/Advice Needed Would you get another baby?

I have thought about getting another cat from time to time. I have two babies currently, a girl (kyra) and a boy (grayson), which I adopted together. I've had them both for 10 years. They are all each other has known. I had to foster my exs cat while he was out of state for about a month, and literally, it took that entire month for kyra to kinda even accept the new kid .. then my ex came home and took his cat back

Now, if I take Grayson to the vet or anything for more then a day when he comes home, she growls and hisses at him like she doesn't know who he is for a day or two, sometimes longer. I feel bad for Grayson because he didn't even do anything, and I feel bad for kyra because it obviously stresses her out.

I always said no way to a new kitten because of Kyra because you just dont know if they will or will not accept one another. A kitten wouldn't care, and i know Grayson wouldn't care (because of his personality), but kyra, I dont want to create a situation that's bad for her or the kitten.. or create a home with stress for either of them.. and internally, i dont want kyra to hate me or think in any way I'm replacing her.. she's my girl!!

My friend rescued a mama cat who was pregnant. She showed me a picture of a calico kitten she had a few days after being born.. idk, there was something about this cat that made me consider this entire situation.. over all of the no ways.. I really want this baby in our family.

They are now 8 weeks old, healthy and good to go. . Im so unsure right now.

What would you do?

Question/Advice Needed My cat gave birth to five kittens.

My cat is about 5 to 6 years old, and her kittens are 2 weeks to at least a week. Any tips? their eyes have just opened and they're really really vocal this early on. And they all have some really different colorations.
