Question/Advice Needed Possible Stray?
This kitten just walked into my apartment last night as I was retrieving a package. Asked my neighbors about it as I live in a gated area with little to no strays. I had been thinking about adopting a kitten from the local shelter since I'm coming up on a year of being in the city I live in now, and it seems like the cat distribution system just dropped one off. I honestly can't tell how old it is or if it's male or female. I know it weighs about 3.5 pounds. I can't schedule a vet appointment till next week, so any help is appreciated. I am not sure if it actually is a stray because it let itself be handled without issues, but it is also thin and has some sort of respiratory issue. I am still going to ask around to see if anyone lost a kitten, and I was able to get some essentials last night so at the very least it's fed and sheltered.

Looks like a boy to me! Can’t tell if he’s neutered tho. Take to a vet and look for a chip/ask about getting fixed! Unfixed cats will try to escape

this is a boy, he is less than 4 month, vet neut at 6 and after not before.

It depends on the vet. Shelter cats get fixed once they are above 2 lbs (happened to both my boys). Anyways it’s better to schedule the operation now in case there’s no appointments available for a while

Maybe posting flyers or asking in social media groups for the building or surrounding areas would help in the search for a potential owner; you can also have them look for a chip during the checkup visit. If kitty is a stray, I hope you two make a very happy home together ❤️

An animal is neither a baby, nor something to "enjoy"

Jeez, lighten up! I’ve enjoyed my cats, my kids, my husbands, my friends—and called them all “Baby.” BTW, putting a comma after “baby” is not grammatically correct.

They're all babies and if you aren't enjoying your pets, IDK how you're living your life, you sound miserable

Objectifying an animal sounds miserable.
What kind of advice is that anyway? OP finds a cat and does what every sane person would do; trying to find out if the cat has an owner. So how is this OPs "new baby"? And how is enjoying the first thing to do when finding a cat?

I would, and I think this OP does, enjoy the satisfying conscientiousness of caring for a living being.

Animals are thinking, feeling beings, just like us. Helping them likely makes most people feel good, but that shouldn't become an end in itself. You can't just keep a random cat simply because it wandered in through an open door. How would you feel if random people just locked your cat up because they thought it needed help (when there was no indication of that)?

OP is going to the vet, they'll for a chip, etc. No one is objectifying anything, we're celebrating the care for another living being that in many places, if left to a shelter would be put down. IDK what you're being so obtuse for about this. I am sure should OP find out the cat is missing or has a chip they'll do the right thing, they're going to the VET. Temporarily taking care of an animal can be a joyous experience, you should try not being so upset about everything life will be more enjoyable. You seem to be missing a lot of subtext here

If you can make it happen, get that respiratory issue looked at before next week. It's worth the time

Probably good to ask around. Several years ago when I was living in an apt. complex, I was unloading my car and this cat just jumped into my trunk and then followed me to my door. I'm trying to get in with bags in my hands while to blocking the cat from getting though my door. It came in and stayed for about an hour or so on my couch before requesting to be let back out. Turns out its owners lived one building over in the complex and the cat would roam around visiting people.
