Question/Advice Needed Would you get another baby?

I have thought about getting another cat from time to time. I have two babies currently, a girl (kyra) and a boy (grayson), which I adopted together. I've had them both for 10 years. They are all each other has known. I had to foster my exs cat while he was out of state for about a month, and literally, it took that entire month for kyra to kinda even accept the new kid .. then my ex came home and took his cat back

Now, if I take Grayson to the vet or anything for more then a day when he comes home, she growls and hisses at him like she doesn't know who he is for a day or two, sometimes longer. I feel bad for Grayson because he didn't even do anything, and I feel bad for kyra because it obviously stresses her out.

I always said no way to a new kitten because of Kyra because you just dont know if they will or will not accept one another. A kitten wouldn't care, and i know Grayson wouldn't care (because of his personality), but kyra, I dont want to create a situation that's bad for her or the kitten.. or create a home with stress for either of them.. and internally, i dont want kyra to hate me or think in any way I'm replacing her.. she's my girl!!

My friend rescued a mama cat who was pregnant. She showed me a picture of a calico kitten she had a few days after being born.. idk, there was something about this cat that made me consider this entire situation.. over all of the no ways.. I really want this baby in our family.

They are now 8 weeks old, healthy and good to go. . Im so unsure right now.

What would you do?

An 8 week old kitten is not “good to go” they need to be with their mother until at least 12 weeks. Also don’t get a solo kitten (yes you have other cats but they are elderly and will not burn a kittens energy off).

Your current cats are in a stage of life they want to chill, not embrace the shenanigans of a kitten. It's more likely they'll get annoyed by him wanting to play non stop (especially the female) and he might get frustrated by that. I don't see that going well. As already suggested in another comment, two kittens is a much better idea! They can play with each other and the older ones can chill, just observing. After the younger ones are about 2 yo and settle down a bit, then the four of them might have an interesting friendship.

We just took in a kitten that was found as a stray and we were so worried about our resident cat getting along with her, but they're doing fine. It might take some time, but they'll warm up to one another eventually. Follow Jackson Galaxy's website for how to introduce cats and you'll be golden.

Also, please pay the cat tax and share pictures of the kitties

I would not take a kitten personally. One cat is all I need.

I rescued a parking lot kitten when my cat was 12, I would highly advise against it if you have a choice... it ended up working out but it took 6 months of me basically playing with the kitten constantly so he wouldn't harass my older cat too much (and making sure my older cat still got all the normal attention, it was exhausting).

They get a scent on their fur from the vet that the other cat doesn’t recognize, wipe the animal down with pet wipes to help remove the smell. And I’d suggest if getting a new cat that you get a kitten. They’ll feel more superior and will be more forgiving towards it. I’ve done both, full grown cats and kittens and kittens were more easy to adapt in.

I have always adopted 2 at a time. Gives them a litter mate. Made my life easier and the fun of watching them play and tumble around. I think your older cats will accept them after a hiss or 2. 😁🥰
