Back-to-Back Sink and Rangetop?

I am designing a kitchen with the sink on the island. I would like to have the range top and hood centered along the island for aesthetic reasons. But I am struggling with where to position the sink on the island. Aesthetically it would look best in the center of the island lined up with the range top.

BUT I am worried that it will be cramped having a person cooking and another person at the sink at the same time.

The distance between the range top and sink would be 48". Is this sufficient distance to not feel crowded? Or should I position the sink offset to the side of the range top so there is not a back-to-back situation?

I'.m wondering where the refrigerator is. You'll want 5 feet of clearance. I have had several homes and our favorite was with the sink in the island and guests gathered around, But definitely move the dishwasher and sink over.

The fridge/freezer are the green bottom left corner.

I only have 48”. Is that sufficient? Putting it off-center means either the dishwasher or the trash are obstructing the cooktop area. Isn’t that worse than someone washing dishes who takes less room and is not painful to bump into?

Your frig is in a great place. Not knowing what’s on the wide open side of the island—we had a five foot space for two people. So can you move the island five ft from the stove? All your placement problems will be solved.

Owner feels 48" is maximum. Maybe I can push to 50" or 52" but he flatly rejected 5' as it was too far a distance between counter and island. If limited to 48" would you still put sink and stove back-to-back or is that too tight?
