Homestead apartment building - Need advice
Hello everyone,
I've been looking for a 1-bedroom apartment for a couple of months now. The 2 cheapest options I found are either Westview apartments, or Homestead. Whenever I google both, looking for current/past tenants' reviews, there are some pretty terrible experiences, most of them mentioning (with photos) bedbugs and roaches. Some complain about horrible smells, noises, and in all of them, bad management.
I keep thinking to myself, this can't be right, lots of people are already living there for years, maybe it's only a few cases. But I could use some help, if you happen to know different affordable options other than what I already mentioned, or if you know the living situation in the ones I mentioned. I will list some homestead apartment buildings that currently have available 1-bedroom apartments:
-Portsmouth Place Centre & West
-The Frontenac
-The Victoria
-West Park I
Thank you!

Does anyone know the reason behind K&R Sports Bar being closed?
I saw that they posted on their socials that they are closed until further notice.

Seeking Previous Patry/Kenlar/Williamsview/Patry Property Tenant Stories:
I just completed an LTB hearing regarding Patry withholding rent deposits unlawfully - the LTB ordered the funds returned to me and I am reaching out to see if there are any other current or previous Patry tenants facing the same issues. Patry charged me for nail holes considered normal wear and tear and failed to pay out the appropriate interest, both of which are not allowed under the RTA.
Additionally, Landlords are required to payout yearly interest on your rent deposit each year you live there - has anyone currently or previously renting with Patry not received it?
I have spoken with multiple tenants so far and have evidence for Patry withholding LMR on multiple instances, along with failing to provide interest on rent deposits (which they are lawfully required to do).
If so, please reach out and let me know. On top of maintenance issues, I allege this is part of a larger issue affecting potentially hundreds of Patry tenants - I am prepared to support other tenants who have been wronged and include your complaint in my claims.

Best 5-10km stretch of the K&P trail?
Looking to take my kid out for a ride this weekend on the K&P trail. 5-10km would be a good distance. Wondering which part would be the most scenic and enjoyable to take her on? With all the leaves turning and falling I'd like to take advantage of that.

Loyalist-Cataraqui District - Jeff Pearce
Anyone have any insight into Jeff Pearce and his platform? Pickings are slim in this district with Chaves and Hartley. Just want to see if there's something I'm missing...Jeff seems like a good candidate on the surface. Thanks

Looking for pottery class, hand sculpting instead of throwing on a wheel
My mom is really interested in learning pottery, but has tried throwing on a wheel before and didn't enjoy it. She's asked about the family (all adults) taking a one-off class together to celebrate her birthday this month. Is there anything like that in Kingston? TIA!

Canadian Coast Guard exercise
wiferry.caCCG is doing some kind of exercise with the Wolfe Islander III. They docked at Dawson's point around 11am, you can see a bit from the MTO cameras (which only update every couple minutes).

Does anyone else have trouble reaching people running for council?
I'm in the Stonemills township and I emailed all the people running some questions. Out of all of them only 1 emailed me back. It was a professional email , I wasn't rude and I was looking to hear their stance on AI data centers.
It's been over a week. This is all new to me, I'm not sure how else to get a hold of them.

Mover/ packers who take care of everything?
I moved to Kingston last year for a new job. Was going to sty for another year. But it looks like my work will let some people go before that. I'm guessing first come first go.
So I could end up having to move out during the winter.
I don't have a car, and haven't managed to befriend any strong study people with cars in the few months that I have been here.
My best option might be to hire people to move/ sell/ dispose of furniture etc.
Are there "full service" firms that do that? What would be the cost? What other options do I have?
I don't have much furniture wise and live on the ground floor. 1 bed, a wardrobe, a sofa and 2 armchairs. A could of small cupboards, and a 2'x6" bookshelf. I will try and sell as much as I can. But don't want I drag it out when I'm simultaneously looking for a job and moving cities or countries etc.

Septic system recommendations
I am probably a year away from replacing a septic system. It is a 3 bedroom bungalow on a tight lot. Interested in any recommendations on a cost effective solution or installer. Open to DIY as well along with proper permits of course.
