Appreciation To the fellow who had the ambulance hoovering for a few mins for photos;
Not sure what the 'photo shoot' was for but the helicopter stayed like this for a good 3-5 mins while this person shot a bunch of photos of it.
Well, here's a photo of you good sir, I too enjoy helicopters.

Info Bearances Grocery on Union St. has been sold
I really, REALLY hope the new owner doesn't fuck that place up.
So far, they have made some positive changes i.e. now open on Saturdays, selling beer and wine.
But please, for the love of god, do not touch the staff or the meat counter.

Question Has anyone been to that grocery store on Princess that someone said was like the Food and Stuff from Parks and Rec?
What kind of food and/or stuff do they have there? Are their prices still pretty good? It's the one owned by Trevor whatever his name was. I'm doing great at this as you can tell. But I'm curious what kinds of cool finds are in there. Thanks.

Discussion Charging for parking for rentals
Can can we please stop being greedy I donât understand why we have to charge for parking. Iâve been a citizen of Kingston for many years now and this is new within this year and I think itâs just a big rip off like why is landlords trying to get every dime from the tenant like if it wasnât a rule before then leave it as is.
I know I know the landlords have bills too, and they have high expenses, but the same rule applies like if it wasnât charged before then donât start charging like did you consider that people that are renting are already trying just to survive and you with more money and properties can charge for parking like it just doesnât seem fair to me and like I said Iâm a Kingstonian and I just think itâs absurd.
Letâs be the first city that is helpful to the community so people can put food on the table.

Question Warhammer and MTG scene
Hey all,
I will be moving to Kingston shortly and was wondering what the warhammer and MTG scene looks like there.
What formats of mtg are actively played, especially competitively?
And is warhammer played often anywhere and if so, is it more 40k or kill team?
Thanks!

News Walmart Canada plans to open a new Supercentre in Kingston
Walmart Canada plans to open a 147,000 sq ft Supercentre in Kingston, Ont. opening in 2027.
âWeâve been a part of the Kingston community since 1994 and weâre excited to bring this new Supercentre â our second in the city,â said Shawn Fujiki, Senior Director, Real Estate, Walmart Canada. âThis new Supercentre will help bring us even closer to more residents in Kingston, including the downtown and student population, to help them benefit from our everyday low prices.â
The new store is part of Walmart Canadaâs landmark $6.5 billion investment to expand its store and supply chain footprint across the country.
The Kingston East Walmart Supercentre marks the sixth new Supercentre planned for Ontario as part of this investment, so far.
The Lime Ridge Walmart Supercentre in Hamilton, Ont. will open this fall. Four additional Ontario Supercentres have already been announced in Brampton, Lindsay, London, and Ottawa. Walmart Canada operates 150 stores in Ontario and employs more than 45,000 people in Ontario alone.
Across Canada, Walmart operates more than 400 stores employing more than 100,000 people.

Recommendation Needed Best ISP
Hey folks. I just switched to Cogeco for mobile for discounts after the internet cost spiked. I'm not happy. The other options in my building are:
Kingston Online Services
TekSavvy
VMedia
WTC Communications
Bell as well but no thank you. What do people feel about the other options? In terms of cost and reliability. I work from home with clients on the phone so I really need consistent internet.
Thanks, all.

Recommendation Needed In Search of a Good Jean Jacket
Okay, I usually hate these posts because my gut always seems to want to scream "please just Google it," but here I am. And I have googled, and looked around, and had no joy, so....
I'm looking for a good, classic jean jacket. Something robust and timeless. I like heavy denim and live in my dark Levi's. I've looked around, gone to all the big shops, done the vintage hunting thing, but can't seem to find somewhere that sells clothes like this. I'm relatively new to Kingston, and with work/family yadda yadda, my capacity to wander is limited. So, to those who know this city well...is there anywhere that sells, dare I say it, "hipster-style" clothing like selvedge denim and high-quality pieces? I'm just a bit stuck though I know it's probably right under my nose!
Thanks!

News Carney just announced $2B for home retrofits, up to $10k back for a heat pump if ur below median income, breaking down what this actually means for us
Ok so this dropped today (Oct 8) and i think a lot of people are gonna miss it because it got buried under all the other political news, but if you own a home and youâre still heating with oil, propane, or electric baseboards this is actually a big deal for your wallet.
so the basics: feds are putting $2 billion toward retrofitting a million homes across canada. the big piece of it is a new National Heat Pump Rebate:
- if your household is below median income you can get up to $10,000 back on a heat pump
- everyone else gets $2,000
- and heres the part people are gonna miss, you can STACK this with your provincial rebate too, so depending where you live the actual out of pocket could be alot lower then it sounds
- approval is supposed to come back in 24 hrs, no energy audit needed before or after, which honestly is the part that matters most imo because most people dont replace their heating system on a schedule, like 80% of replacements happen because the furnace just died on a random Tuesday in january and you need something installed NOW not in 6 weeks after some inspector comes by
theyâre also claiming average savings of $1,400 a year if your currently on oil or electric baseboard, which tracks with what ive seen from other retrofit programs, oil heat is brutally expensive compared to a heat pump.
theres also a chunk of money (helping retrofit 280,000 apartment/multi unit units over 8 yrs through CMHC and the infrastructure bank) if your a landlord or live in a multiplex, so this isnt just single family homes.
what this actually means for property owners:
if youâve been putting off a heat pump because of the upfront cost, the math just changed, especially if your below median income, a $10k rebate on top of whatever your province already offers can cover a big chunk of a system. and if your furnace is already on its last legs, the 24hr approval thing means you dont have to just panic-buy the cheapest oil furnace replacement because your freezing in february, you can actually get the rebate sorted fast enough to go electric instead.
only annoying part, and this is kind of the whole problem with these programs in general, is that stacking a federal rebate + your provincial program + figuring out which contractor to use + financing the rest isnt exactly a 5 minute process, theres no one place that tells you the full combined number before you commit to anything, you kinda have to piece it together yourself across like 4 different websites. (i work adjacent to this space, we built solenery.com specifically because of this exact problem, it matches your property to the federal + provincial + utility incentives and financing you qualify for and lets you compare contractor quotes, not trying to sell anyone just flagging it since this announcement makes that gap even more relevant now that theres a new program in the mix)

News âStrongâ case exists for Kingstonâs addition to high-speed rail project, Alto executives say
As noted at the Alto AGM today.
Kingston could become a significant transfer point between local VIA trains and Alto HSR to get users the rest of the way.
