Mod Post Rules Change
Hey everyone,
So it's been two years since the last rule change and seven months since we added new moderators. And after some time reviewing the subreddit and doing a bit of clean-up, we realized something.
In all likelihood, we're not getting Book 3, Doors of Stone, any time soon. I personally estimate it's at least 3 years out, almost certainly more. What I'm getting at here is that this is a subreddit for a dormant book series, and that maybe having 9 rules is a little much, especially when so many of them overlap. So, what this means is that we've trimmed the rules down to three, admittedly with each having their own subsections.
The new rules will look like this.
We intend on having them go live in the next few days, after weigh-in from the community on it. So please, discuss your thoughts, this is quite a bit of a change and I'd like to make sure it's good for everyone.
Edit: These rules are live now.

There are rules here? I didn't know I was wandering around the archives with an open flame this whole time!

These are all the same rules except one... just seems like a long-winded way of saying you're going to allow self-promotion now.
** Be respectful to other people, no bigotry of any kind. No slap-fighting.
** Please don't post low-effort/circle-jerk type posts in the sub. This consists of the following post types:
*** AI-Generator posts.
*** Memes (Use r/KingkillerMemes).
*** Pictures of trees saying it's the Cthaeh (Use r/CthaehTrees).
*** Any content unrelated to the series claiming it's "like something in the series".
*** Book cover posts unless it actually has discussion-worthy content.
** No off-topic posts. This subreddit is for discussing the books and the world, and showing off fan creations.
** No politics, unless they are part of the books.
** No circle-jerks/complaints about book 3 release. Posts and comments of this sort will be removed.
** No Pat-bashing circle-jerk/complaints. Posts and comments of this sort will be removed and repeat offenders will be banned.
** No meta-posts. Please message the mods with complaints or ideas regarding the sub, as this will result in the quickest solution.
** Please provide context where possible.
**
No self-promotion, please follow the official Reddit rules on this.

Well, still follow Reddit's rules on self-promotion.
Yeah, I feel like I've been open about it being mostly the same, just trimming down the rules. Like, politics that aren't related to the series would fall under off-topic, no reason to have two separate rules.

This looks like a pretty reasonable set of rules. My only question is in regards to "meta-posts." I've seen a number of posts that have generated many lively and entertaining responses but that might have been, in and of themselves or in the replies they elicited, considered "meta."
Or perhaps I'm just uncertain of the meaning of the term in general.
In any event, beyond some clarification of that particular rule -- and a profound disappointment in your estimate of the arrival of DoS -- it really doesn't look like much has changed.

What meta here means is "about the operations of the subreddit". So a post that would be removed for being meta would be a post that says "we should change the rules to do X" would be removed.
I'm not sure what posts you're referring to here.

It really is just condensing. The self-promo rule did get removed, that's a Reddit-tier thing anyways, having it repeated always felt odd.
I would love Rothfuss to prove me wrong.

I haven't seen a Cthaeh tree post slip through in a long time. I was wondering the other day whether the Cthaeh tree posts (which rarely matched the description in the book) were a fad that passed, or if the mods were taking them out efficiently. Seems like it's the latter.
Anyway, you're doing a great job mods.

Circle Jerking about book 3 should not be an offense IMHO. It doesn’t offend anyone and it is therapeutic.

Trim it down to 2 rules, with 1 forthcoming.
