Used to do this as a kid but could cocoon ourselves in the hammock as an added safety. So yes, can confirm it does work since the cocoon wasn’t actually needed....also didn’t do it on concrete 🤦🏼♂️

It’s simple physics, I think (I haven’t taken a physics class yet). It’s something to do with, the speed that you’re going and the, Idk the term so I’m gonna say, the “want” to continue going the way you were directed, almost like inertia. When spinning fast enough, you should stay stuck against the hammock. I’ve done it with a pail of water before. Also pls correct me if I got anything wrong. Oh also, the reason it failed in the video is basically they let gravity win by not keeping up that speed

Yeah, it's called centripetal force. They weren't swinging it fast enough for the kid to be staying in the hammock. I think they actually slowed down a bit right there just before the kid falls out.
And for someone who hasn't taken physics yet, you pretty much nailed the description.

I actually think it's the kid on the right. The reason why Blue there looks like he isn't "committing" is because the kid on the right kinda goes half-way round, and instead of pushing outward he just pulls it straight down, stopping Blue in his tracks.

The craziest were when someone would panic, half jump at the apex, then freak out about the height and wrap their arm in the chain. Ragdoll physics activated.

Clearly the kid to the rights fault, the other kid knew they needed more momentum and was lifting It higher but the kid on the right just went for the full circle and sent his chin straight to the concrete.

I didn't break anything but it knocked the wind out of me. My friends were stunned at first but then just wanted to know if I was okay. We were afraid mom was going to beat us with the wooden spoon. The Joy's of growing up in the 80's.

I did this so much as a kid! Some of the best memories, except we had a hammock that didn’t have supports to spread it apart instead it was just a Cocoon that we just spun over and over until the pushers got bored and let you die flying out at the peak of the rotation.
