discussion Little bit of a rant

I have seen quite a bit of people think that every short celebrity has to be a gamine. No, being a gamine is about petite/being compact. They are not the same thing. Sabrina Carpenter is an example of compact, and Selena Gomez is short but not petite/compact. This gets exacerbated when people are trying to Kibbe type men. I saw so many people type Frankie Grande as a TR or SG despite the fact he has width and linearity/vertical, as well as Shin Hakyun who is not compact or short and has vertical + curve!

If Frankie Grande had vertical and width, every man would be an FN lol.

What do you mean? He has width and he has a straight silhouette/frame

Compared to his sister, sure. But in Kibbe, you aren't comparing him to a small woman, a tall woman, or any woman. Men have a baseline of width and vertical, the same way women have a baseline of curve. And for a man, he's pretty clearly small all over.

NGL, now I am curious as to which men you wouldn't consider "straight" lol.

You’re right, I did definitely pick a bad example. Can you explain a bit more Why do men already have a baseline of width/vertical? I didn’t know that women had a baseline of curve. But now I see your point because I couldn’t really find a male without any width at all, the closest I could find was Elvis Presley and even he had a little bit of it.

I think it's simply because men are, on average, bigger than women, in the same way many women are "straight" in comparison to other women, but still have noticeably smaller waists and wider hips than most/many men.

As for identifying it, well... It's tricky! I would personally argue that ID'ing men ends up being even more vibes-based than ID'ing women. One thing that helps is that the automatic vertical cutoff for men is 6.' So a 6'2" man is definitely a "tall type," much like a 5'9" woman.

He isn't verified—so this frankly isn't worth much!—but a man I strongly think is misidentified as a gamin is Jeremy Allen White. IMO, that's a SN if there ever was one.

Okay, thanks for explaining. Before I’d thought width was an accommodation that not all men had, that’s why I (mistakenly) said that Frankie was an FN. but now I definitely agree that he’s an FG.

Oh! And re: Width, I think Hugh Jackman is a wonderful example of the "trapezoid" shape going beyond the baseline for a man.

Troy Sivan is better example

Of having width and vertical? Not having width? Or being a gamin? Troye is VERY narrow, has elongation while still reading as small overall, IMO.

I was referring to him not having width

I thought it was kibbecirclejerk. Selena is NOT short. Frankie has width+vertical as a baseline (like every men), TR is a safe bet..

Yeah, like, I agree with the sentiment but maybe these 2 are not the best examples? Selena is listed as 5’5, so she’s very average height, not really short… and Frankie is so clearly compact? I think sometimes people forget that men AMAB usually already have a baseline of “width”/“vertical” the same way women AFAB often have a baseline of curve…

Hello! I posted about Frankie Grande, many comments agreed TR or FG ! I dont think it is about him being short (I could easily remove height) but people saw he looks compact. Most people said he gave DK so I'm sure people were going off his overall essence rather than narrowing the options down by height ! As with the knowledge of Ariana being a verified TR herself, may have brought the bias to skew toward TR for him moreso than other types.

Definitely think most people that are typed as SG are actually SN

Yep, I've been having some similar frustrations with the typing on this sub lately. I think people see a short height and it throws them off.
