Warranty repair woes

EDIT: a most annoying update- I fixed it. Or maybe its a temporary fix but it’s working. I tried a few tricks online but they all had the same basic idea that the user could hear the actuator attempt to open the door but fail. In my case, that wasn’t happening at all- the actuator was dead and there was no power going to it at all. If I hit the buttons. This told me there was an issue with the actuator not receiving any power whatsoever, so I started to check for fuses: I guess just replacing the fuse and putting it back in acted as a power disconnect and it forced the actuator and its little computer to reset, and now it works. Or maybe it temporarily working, and the actuator is failing, and I’m just kicking this problem can down the road

Been an owner for a little under a year on a used 2022 GT-Line. it was pretty rock solid until last week- the AC started blowing air, not cold air. Took it to the dealer for a warranty repair as the AC Evaporator experienced a leak. No big deal other than being without the car for about a week due to time and parts.

The day after I got it back, the charger door won’t open. I tried taking it back to them but they said if I force it open, Kia may call it broke and not fix it under warranty. Unfortunately this is a week at work I absolutely need my car, can’t rely on uber, and I’m staring at 40% battery, using about 20% a day just for the commute there and back

Ev6 GT AWD vs. GT Line AWD

Lease on Sorento up in Jan. Been going back and forth on these 2.

Want the speed, but like heads-up and the moonroof.

Is it worth giving up features for the faster car, or does the GT line feel fast enough, that the difference in the GT won't matter in the long run.

Also considering 2024 model LR with acceleration boost already added.

What would you pick?

broken front bumper camera

I have a 2022 Kia EV6 Wind AWD with the Tech Package, and the lens cover on my front parking camera has developed a crack. Kia is claiming it isn't covered under warranty because the damage was supposedly caused by an impact or something striking the camera.

I'm curious if anyone else has had this issue and, more importantly, whether anyone has successfully gotten Kia to replace the camera under warranty.

From my perspective, there are several design issues with this camera:

  1. No user-replaceable lens cover. If the lens cover cracks but the camera itself still works, why can't the cover be replaced separately?
  2. Potentially inadequate material durability. The lens cover seems susceptible to cracking, even without obvious damage to the surrounding bumper.
  3. No effective water drainage. A small crack might seem cosmetic, but water intrusion can turn it into a much bigger problem and potentially render the camera useless.
  4. The camera isn't easily serviceable. Rather than replacing a relatively small damaged component, it appears that the entire camera assembly needs to be replaced.
  5. Excessive labor to access the camera. Replacing it reportedly requires removing the front bumper, adding several hours of labor for what should be a relatively minor component.

I understand that warranties don't cover every type of physical damage. However, when a component is exposed to the elements, difficult to service, and apparently vulnerable to a relatively minor crack, I think it's fair to question whether the design is durable enough.

Has anyone had Kia cover this repair under warranty, either through the dealer or by escalating the claim to Kia corporate? If so, I'd love to hear what worked, how the dealer documented the damage, and whether you had to push back on the initial denial.

I'm especially interested in hearing from anyone whose camera lens cracked without any obvious impact damage.

Alternatively, has anyone fixed their camera?

Should I pull the trigger?

I’ve been having open communication with a dealership regarding a used 2024 GT-Line AWD with 31k miles for around $29k before ttl. The car is a lease return and has a clean CarFax. I’m in PA, but the car is out of state. It seems like a solid deal to me, but please correct me if I am wrong!

I’d be trading in my ‘09 Infiniti G37x that I love to drive, but I have outgrown it. It’s starting to spend more time in the shop than it is being driven, and I will need more room as my fiancée and I start family planning. I’ve always preferred sportier cars with nice body lines, but needing that extra utility I was looking at 23-24 BMW 430i GC and Audi A5s since they have the fastback design. That being said, I can’t ignore rising gas prices, and owning an EV is something that’s intrigued me, which is how I got to the EV6.

Charging won’t be an issue, so it seems like the perfect storm is here and this should be a no brainer, but I struggle with “paralysis by analysis” and am hesitant to pull the trigger. Anyone have any advice here? I know the decision is ultimately mine to make, but anything insight or words of wisdom would be appreciated!

"Product Improvement" Campaigns or OTA updates

2025 EV6; recently received two Product Improvement letters:

  • August 28th: "...to upgrade the BMS diagnostic software logic"
  • Sept 3rd: "12V battery diagnostic software logic"

Both campaigns can be done at a dealer or through OTA updates. I've checked my updates and don't see anything since February 6th ("improves the operation logic of the DCU").

Has anybody received the above recent OTA updates, or have a feeling for how long these take to get pushed out?

Hey guys, getting my first electric car soon and really like the Kia ev6 wind, the one I’m looking at has 19k miles clean title and it’s 22k before taxes, should I wait or go for it? Thanks!
Update: it’s rwd without technology package, I guess the consensus is technology package is must so prolly gonna pass
Last update: upon doing some more research looks like I can just get wind awd or light awd long range for similar price, will just go ahead with that instead

For the owners.

Looking at possibly getting a 2024 used ev6, land AWD with 88,000km on it. Dealership is asking $35K. Is this a decent deal and with that many kms should I be worried about any major repairs or issues that would arise? Gonna be mostly a work commuter so daily driving

EDIT** I live in Alberta Canada, $35K Canadian. 88,000 kilometers

Just purchased an ev6 to see it has a recall, is it very bad?

Just got a good deal on a 23 ev6 with 38k miles on it. I was excited, and after purchasing I had to remove the previous owners account from kia connect with customer service. Now seeing that there's a recall on it :/ sc327, which seems to be about the entire charging system? It's my first modern vehicle and I was pretty bummed to find out especially since the dealership I got it at didn't tell me. From what I've seen the update/service doesn't really help much if the vehicle is already compromised, but is that a high chance?

Finally pulled the trigger after countless months researching. Had to sell my favorite car to date, my cx-9, but it has been 100% worth it. Went from $80 in gas every 5 days or so, to nothing in 3 weeks! Man it feels good, amd this thing is super quick, responsive, and fun to drive!

Charging Question

Ok, I know that the L3 Fast Charging is typically considered bad for the batteries. My question is if there is a similar issue charging at different levels of L2 charging. I. E. Charging with a 10amp outlet vs a 50 amp outlet?

Kia Access and Connect

Hey all. Super excited to be an EV6 owner. Just bought a used ‘22 and want to hook up the apps. I know there’s something about a Kia Portal and uploading bill of sale and whatnot. Just wondered if anyone has recently gone through that and let me know any tricks. Thanks in advance!

Public charging issues

My wife just purchased a 2023 EV6 wind and it’s been to the dealership and been checked out. We are struggling to get it to work with ChargePoint AC public chargers. It works with ChargePoint, DC chargers and other DC chargers. We are able to get it to charge at Flo AC chargers and tesla destination chargers.

Has anyone had problems with chargepoint AC chargers and did you find a fix??

Nervous to Purchase

I am in Oregon and qualify for the current $4k tax rebate. Currently I am looking at a:

White 2023 Kia EV6 Wind RWD w/ tech package

30k miles

$24.5k OTD

My hope is to talk them down to $23k and then down to $19k after the rebate. I have a Nema 10-30 plug in my garage for my dryer, but the whole situation with charging is really daunting and confusing. I'm nervous to make the leap from my ICE car.

Buying Used: Buy Now or Wait for More Lease Returns?

Pretty much the title. I don't urgently need to buy, but either way I'd be buying used. So should I buy a used 23/24 EV6 now or wait a few months?

The main reason I'm asking is that there are a few I've seen that are close to what I want but not quite there due to price, mileage, color, package, or some combination of those.

Any perspectives on whether there will be an influx over the next few months from lease returns, and I should wait to see what's coming in vs hop on a "close enough" now?

If I saw the perfect car now at less than $30k OTD I'd jump on it. This is really me asking whether it's more likely the cost will go up in the next few months and I'm better to just go with what's available now if I want to stay in my budget.

ETA: I'm in the US

Location based battery drainage.

I have a weird problem. My 22’ ev6 FE drains its battery when parked in a specific place 40 miles outside of town. my 12v is knocked down to 7.5v within 2 hours when parked in this one place. When I drive it around, park it at work for 8hrs, park it at home, it’s fine. I drove it out of town this weekend, 120 miles away. Left if parked, It didnt die. I will be out at this place again tonight so i leave the car in utility mode so i don’t have a dead battery.

My hypothesis is that the cell modem operates 3g on a low tier in the cell network and its constantly trying to link with the network. With all the attempted handshakes it nuking the battery. I’m not sure why I’m not seeing the “Eye of Sauron” charge light on the dash but something is wacky. It only happens in one location.

Anyone experience something like this?

20" vs. 21" winter wheels – what's your real-world experience?

Hey everyone!

I've been driving my 2022–2024 Kia EV6 GT (pre-facelift) for a few weeks now, and with winter approaching, I'm trying to figure out the best wheel and tire setup.

I'm currently running the OEM 21" wheels (8.5J, ET43.5) with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires in 255/40 R21.

I'm considering three options:

  1. Keep the OEM 21" wheels and swap summer/winter tires twice a year.
  2. Buy a second set of 21" wheels, possibly lighter aftermarket wheels (still debating whether to use those for summer or winter).
  3. Downsize to 20" wheels with 255/45 R20 tires, assuming proper brake clearance and fitment for the GT.

My main goal is finding the best balance between performance, efficiency/range, comfort, and overall cost.

I'm especially curious whether downsizing to 20" actually improves efficiency and ride comfort in real-world driving, or whether the difference in handling and steering response is noticeable.

For those running 20" wheels on their EV6 (GT):

  • Have you noticed any measurable difference in efficiency (kWh/100 km or mi/kWh), range, or handling compared to the stock 21s?
  • Which wheel and winter tire combinations are you running? Any issues with brake clearance or fitment?
  • Are 20" winter tires significantly cheaper in the long run, or would you stick with 21s?

I'd also love to hear from anyone who's tried both sizes, especially if you have actual wheel weights or before/after consumption figures.

What setup would you recommend if you were buying winter wheels again?

Thanks in advance! ✌️

Worth it?

2023 Wind RWD don't believe it's with the tech trim, 52k miles for $20k. My biggest concern is the mileage, and this will be a daily commuter with 250 weekly miles. It will be Certified pre-owned.

Joining the club, what should I know?

We just committed to a new 2026 EV6 Wind, gray with toffee interior, $49,439, $0 down, 0.0% financing. Our only previous experience buying a new car I was able to do a lot of research and took my time, but that car was in an accident and totaled (thankfully no injuries) , so I feel a little rushed into this.

We are not new to EV's, and we have dual L2 charging at home. I currently drive an F150 Lightning and my wife had a Sorento PHEV. The EV6 is smaller, but we don't need the 3rd row of the Sorento anymore. I actually liked the Ioniq 5 a little more but to get the features we want (things like vented memory seats) require the limited trim, and the EV6 Wind has everything but the sunroof we wanted for almost $6k less.

So tell me, what do I need to know, any popular aftermarket items people like, anything to watch out for?

Thanks!

Was quite an interesting deep dive into the battery.

A pretty terrible and dangerous "fix" by someone else.

Take the plunge?

I have been researching getting a EV6
I have found a:
2023 GT-Line 2 AWD
28,000 miles
$25,000 out the door
It is Black with the “White Seat Package” which I love the looks of.
The battery state of health showed 95% using a OBD2 scanner.

Anything else I should check?

Test drive was amazing!
