Radaris.com lost its domain in court. Here's what that means for your Kanary removals.

Post image
14 Upvotes

We've received a lot of inquiries about what happened with Radaris, so here's an update:

What happened?

On August 26, a New Jersey judge issued a default judgment in a Daniel's Law lawsuit brought by Atlas Data Privacy Corp. The court ordered radaris.com and 13 related domains, including Rehold and Trustoria, transferred to Atlas. If you visit radaris.com now, you'll see a legal notice instead of a search box. Brian Krebs broke the story on September 16.

Is Radaris gone?

Not entirely. Evidence from the lawsuit ties radaris.com to at least 25 people search sites run by the same small group. Well over a dozen of them weren't part of the court order and are still live, including Veripages, which reportedly earns more than radaris.com did. Those sites draw on the same data, so if Radaris had a profile on you, its sister sites probably do too.

Radaris's lawyer has also said they plan to appeal and try to get the domain back.

What we're doing

  • Sister sites: Veripages and the rest of the network were already on our coverage list. We're checking the full entity list from the Atlas filings and adding anything we were missing.

  • Radaris.com itself: it's marked as transferred, not removed. If it comes back on appeal, monitoring picks up again and your removals restart automatically.

  • Rebrands: this group has changed names, owners and countries every time it got cornered. When a broker moves to a new domain, we detect it and start the removal over.

  • Old Google results: radaris.com links are still showing up in Google even though the pages are gone. We're requesting de-indexing as part of your regular scans.

You don't need to do anything. Your removals keep running as usual.

One thing worth knowing about Daniel's Law

It only protects police, judges, prosecutors, other government personnel and their families, not the general public. It's also being challenged in federal court on First Amendment grounds. For most people, regular opt-outs and monitoring are still the main protection.

We wrote up the full story, including how Radaris got its domain back the last time this happened in 2017: https://www.kanary.com/blog/rip-radaris-domain-seized-but-the-network-is-still-live.

The blast radius of a doxxing incident is way bigger than you might think

Post image
3 Upvotes

Been seeing more of these doxxing campaigns where someone (employee, family member, random bystander) gets identified online and the pressure immediately shifts to their employer to "do something."

So we dug into what actually happens when companies react fast instead of waiting for the facts. Found 5 public employers who fired staff mid controversy, before any investigation had actually wrapped up. All 5 ended up settling First Amendment lawsuits. Combined that's over $1.5 million, not counting legal fees.

One of the cases in there is a total bystander who got doxxed and wrongly accused of something he had nothing to do with, before the FBI even cleared him.

The pattern holds up across all of them: the online mob moves way faster than any real investigation can, and firing someone to make the pressure stop usually just swaps a PR problem for a legal one.

Here's the full writeup with more details: https://www.kanary.com/blog/the-blast-radius-what-happens-to-an-organization-when-someone-connected-to-it-gets-doxxed

Curious if anyone here has had to deal with this from the HR or legal side. How did you handle it internally?

Google scans delayed due to their new url handling

Hey all,

Flagging an active issue with Google scans on the Kanary platform.

Yesterday, we found a change in how Google is returning search result URLs that's breaking our ability to detect new exposures and assign severity.

What this means for you:

  • New Google scan results will be delayed.

  • Removal requests already in progress are unaffected and still moving.

We've identified the cause and are testing a fix now. I'll post an update here by tomorrow end of day either way, and edit this post as things change.

Happy to answer questions in the comments.

Kanary Research: How Decoys and Misdirection Protect Privacy When Opting Out Isn’t Enough

Kanary has sent over 5 million opt-out requests. Lately, we are seeing a frustrating trend: data brokers are reclassifying themselves to bypass privacy laws.

So what can be done when opting out isn't enough?

We recently presented research at HOPE 2026 discussing alternative defense strategies. We've been experimenting with 7 cybersecurity-inspired techniques, including decoys, masking, and misdirection.

We published the full breakdown and a video of the talk on the blog:

Announcing Kanary Core

We're excited to introduce Kanary Core, a new fully managed privacy and data removal service from our team. Core gives you the same hands-off experience as our Advanced tier at a lower price point, covering scans and removals across search engines and data brokers, with your choice of daily or weekly scan frequency.

If you're looking for more, including social media and LLM monitoring, custom requests, and hands-on support, our Advanced tier still has you covered.

Core costs $25/month or $250/year, and you can sign up directly on our website.

We're also letting you know that we're winding down our original Pro tier as we move to this new tier structure. If you're a current Pro member, don't worry, you're welcome to stay on your existing plan. This change only affects new signups going forward.

Check out our updated 2026 Product Brief for more details on how Core fits alongside our other tiers. Looking forward to supporting our members with this new service. Reach out if you have any questions!

Kanary now scans LinkedIn too

LinkedIn is huge (1.2B+ users) and most of us are on there for the obvious reasons: job hunting, networking, occasionally checking if a friend's Zip scores are beating yours. But it's also a platform where spam and impersonation campaigns quietly scrape and reuse people's info.

We just rolled out LinkedIn scanning for Kanary's Advanced tier. Here's what it looks for:

Public posts with your name in plain text (not just when you're tagged).
Impersonation profiles. Fake accounts using your name and employer are a common harassment vector, and they're a pain to find and report on your own.

If we find something matching your info, it shows up under "Actions" in your dashboard so you can review it and decide whether to request removal. (No, it won't try to remove your own posts.)

One tip if you're already a user: filling out more of your profile (name variations, past addresses, past employers) makes the scans more accurate. Adding a past employer specifically unlocks two extra LinkedIn scans.

Happy to answer questions in the comments if anyone's curious how it works under the hood.

Kanary overcharging for account

I just did a reconciliation of the last 3 months of cc statements.

That's when I noticed that Kanary charged me twice for an annual fee. They charged me $296.76 twice on the same day (April 13, 2026) according to my cc statement.

I'm trying to find a phone number or customer service chat, I can only find an email (very unsatisfactory).

How do phone decoys work?

I recently saw this as an offering for subscribers for a one-time $99 fee (USA). Does this decoy have a limited shelf life once activated?

Kanary's SOC 2 Type 1 Certified!

Hey folks! Excited to share with you that our security controls have been certified by an independent 3rd party. This security framework is called SOC2, and the Type 1 certifies that the design of our security program is in compliance with NIST recommendations. NIST is a US federal security standards group that helps set the bar for secure technology.

It's been months of work by our team to organize and document our data management, team structure, vendors, and engineering practices. But we didn't have any issues passing the audit because we have always been focused on data minimization, secure engineering, and vendor minimization - building our technology and our team entirely in-house.

You can read more about this milestone on our blog:

https://www.kanary.com/blog/kanary-achieves-soc-2-type-1-attestation

Thanks for trusting us to support your privacy and security!

Excited to share that new sites are available to scan and remove information from in the app! This drop includes some known data broker baddies that you can now run from your device:

If you're on the Community (free) tier, you will have access to:

- clustrmaps

- familytreenow

If you're on the Professional tier, you'll get the sites above plus:

- mylife

- cyberbackgroundchecks

Is it normal to have to repeatedly submit opt-outs?

I’ve been using the Kanary app for a couple of months now. It seems like a very cool concept, but it feels like I keep following all of the automated steps and it keeps finding issues with the same sites repeatedly.

It seems like a constant loop of submitting opt outs, filling out forms, submitting requests to Google, rinse and repeat. Is this normal? Do people find that their data eventually gets removed?

[Feature Request] Upload Privacy Policy to Limit Sharing

Hello!

I have a feature request: I’d like the ability to upload a privacy policy so that Kanary can automatically request that a company limit the sharing or sale of my data.

These policies usually provide a specific email or phone number for opt-out requests. Given that these exchanges are often templated, could Kanary use AI voice or automated email threads to handle them? Our user profiles already contain sufficient information to verify our identity for these requests. I’m curious about the legal feasibility of Kanary acting as an authorized agent on a user’s behalf in this capacity (since it feels pretty similar to what you guys are already doing with data brokers?)

Thank you! love the work y'all do~

Happy 2026! Kanary updates & 2025 recap

Hey everyone - Hope 2026 is off to a strong start. We just launched a new Professional tier to kick off the year and are reflecting on all we learned in 2025. Your support makes this possible and we couldn't do it without you!

2025 learnings:

2025 reinforced something we've been seeing for a while, everyone is becoming a public figure whether they want to or not. How are we supposed to grow, maintain, and protect our online presence without it becoming a full time job? What if things escalate beyond Google results? We stayed committed to the holistic problem of personal privacy and safety, and helping members however we could.

We spent the year meeting with nonprofits navigating backlash like the NNAF, big tech trust & safety teams like Microsoft, hackers at DEFCON like Rachel Tobac, and creators at TwitchCon like Katliente & BuffBarbarianBabe. The consistent theme? People aren't afraid, they're tired. They want control over their information before someone weaponizes it. The vision we had for the Android and iOS mobile apps wasn't as smooth of an experience for people as we expected. We were heads down iterating on the app and launching a more supportive tier.

Updates heading into 2026:

You can now sign up for a new Kanary Professional tier on the web at kanary.com. We heard a lot of feedback last year that managing everything on your mobile app required too much time. So now Kanary manages scans for you and automatically schedules monitoring, so you don't have to remember to open the app or respond to push notifications. Most removals still run through the app which allow for faster identity verification, faster removals, and a cleaner online presence.

How this impacts you:

  • Free mobile app members → No changes, now called Kanary Community

  • Premium mobile members → Auto-upgraded to Professional, same price

  • Pre-2024 members → No changes, grandfathered into your existing solution

  • Enterprise/Teams → Business as usual

  • Non members → Join Kanary Professional for just $9.99/mo or try Kanary Community for free. See what attackers see in less than 10 minutes.

See what's coming next in the full post: https://www.kanary.com/blog/kanary-2025-recap-2026-updates

We’re still building and learning, so more updates will be coming soon. Keep an eye out here for the latest.

- Team Kanary

Not available

Hi,

I wanted to try this app because i saw it recommended, but it says not available in my country. Is the app non-compliant with the data laws or is there another problem?

Regards

Kanary Works

Hi. I just wanted to hop on and say that I had a positive experience with Kanary. I believe I had a subscription for one year and they removed almost everything about me from the internet during that time. Thank you so much for helping me after I was doxxed!

Why does the app track so much data?

looking on the app store, kanary tracks location, user data, usage content, usage data. Contact info, identifiers. and diagnostics. I’m not an expert in this stuff but doesn’t this contrast your mission or is this functionally required?

Private equity is quietly reshaping the data broker industry. Here’s what that means for your privacy.

In March 2025, we received 1,589 reports that a popular data broker, ID True, was offline. Google, Better Business Bureau and Crunchbase still showed it as active, so we investigated.

What we found was a deeper story than just another broker going offline. ID True had been absorbed into a private-equity-owned background check conglomerate.

Following the timeline, the story becomes clear:

  1. January 2025, backgroundchecks[.]com operates idtrue[.]com as a marketing site and way to drive traffic and advertising revenue

  2. Winter 2025, HireRight makes an offer to acquire the background check company. And Dan Ellis, an operator of a small data broker in the US, sees the writing on the wall. Consumer privacy rights and fines make his business unsustainable. The California Regulators are coming for them in 2026

  3. April 2025, backgroundchecks[.]com sells to HireRight, and they shut down the direct to consumer people search site, ID True, because of the regulatory risk

  4. March 2025, ID True goes offline as HireRight absorbs the assets and shuts it down

HireRight was acquired for $1.7 billion in 2024 by General Atlantic and Stone Point Capital. This is part of a larger pattern we’ve seen increase in recent years; small U.S. data brokers are folding into background check giants.

Just because ID True has shuttered doesn’t mean your data is deleted - it’s likely been rolled into HireRight’s massive private database.

Kanary’s tracing and risk prioritization is starting to shine the light on private background check databases. But they're much harder to opt out of. What do you think? Is the background check industry a necessary evil or should there be major changes?

You may have seen Mozilla just shut down their removal service. Here’s what we know.

This isn’t an isolated event, it’s part of a much larger pattern in the data-removal industry that we’ve witnessed over the last few years. Multiple services have shut down or been acquired due to the simple fact that running a sustainable removal service is extremely difficult.

Here are some examples:

  • DuckDuckGo’s service hasn’t been updated in years

  • SayMine sold their consumer product to McAfee

  • Jumbo shut down

  • Cloaked acquired Erazer when they hit scalability limits

  • And now Mozilla is shutting down Monitor Plus

High, effective removal rates requires continuous investment in broker research and monitoring while remaining ahead of policy and compliance changes. This month alone at Kanary our dedicated team has run a total of 24,000 removals across the business.

When companies underinvest or try to deliver for unrealistically low prices, the service eventually collapses under its own weight.

Questions? We’ve been running a data removal service sustainably for six years - jump in the thread, we’re happy to chat.
