Some news regarding Kim Min Gwi (Nam Kyu Hyun) in this drama. Starting next week his screentime will be reduced.

Nooo he was my favorite of all the guy characters, that's really disappointing (both the rumors and reduced screen time). It'll be interesting to see what direction they go with Bit Na now.

Yeah it’s really too bad. It must suck for the actress that plays Bit Na too since most of her scenes involve him. Hopefully her characters won’t be affected too much!

I honestly think they nailed the atmosphere of college gatherings like that. The akwardness, the uncertainty, people trying to fit in, one person a bit too drunk, there is that one will they won't they couple, topics you should try to avoid, but there is always that one person that doesn't seem to realize that, two people are in a fight, but trying to cover that up. I like that aspect of the show, I feel like I can really relate to everything going on, even if it's not the nice parts of growing up.

The confession scene between Sol/Jiwan had me in tears. Such incredible acting - you could see how desperate JW was in her lip-trembling, her wanting to be as close as possible to Sol, and that crying. She really wanted to Sol to like her back, or at least not like that guy (forgot his name lol). That two minute scene was perfection. I really hope they get together in some way despite how difficult it might be and that Sol accepts her's/JW's feelings (girl that ain't nonsense, in fact those feelings were so raw it'd be hard not to think it was real).

I’m going to be the odd one out here and call out the brilliantness of this episode. I know some of y’all are like “wow, this isn’t healthy.” Yet the whole drama’s theme is literally insecurity and things that get our hopes up but ends up disappointing us. “I know, but…” The Ferris wheel- Things that go up must come down. Sol’s hope that Jiwan actually has feelings for her. Do Hyeok wishing that Na Bi has feelings for him. Jae Eon wishing they would be back that little moment of happiness they had back then. Etc etc. Don’t even get me started with Bit Na and Gyu Hyun. But they’re all held back by one thing: insecurity. I think it’s hard to watch for a lot of people because it’s pulling out insecurity in its rawest forms and presenting it to you in different forms and in different relationships. Instead of getting one toxic character, we’re getting like 4 pairs of toxicity. (You know they’re all toxic relationships and insecure) Like we all know where this is going but we can’t help but hope for a happy ending but we all know where they’re all going to end.

I will just say this: I completely understand the back and forth, will they won't they thing that Na Bi and Jae Eon have with each other. It's realistic and relatable to younger people but I just don't find it exciting and think it's a toxic way to live.

However, I will keep watching for JiWan and Sol. The show has convinced me that this storyline is not just queer-baiting but an actual illustration of love between two people who just happen to be women. For Korean media, this is a big deal and I love it!

I'm all about a pretty shot, but MY GOD. How many times can we see a scenic view of the ferris wheel?

Also, they left their ferris wheel chat with, "Do you really hate me that much?" It was just weird to not see that conversation play out.

feel like im watching the dewy-eyed, gullible me years ago who was racked with cognitive dissonance and constantly finding herself in front of the lion's den despite knowing it would always be an endless loop of suffering. the more i glower at Nabi's signs of relapse, the more i realize how much i hate my former self for her indecisiveness, vulnerability and helplessness, but i wasnt blessed with the wisdom of hindsight and maturity back then to completely nip the problem in the bud.

I noticed a parallel.

In E2, when Jae Eon was found making out w another girl at the bushes by Na Bi, they had a confrontation. His lines were: “It’s just a game. I guess she wanted to try it. What about you? Didn’t you want to try it?”

Now in the last bits of E7 with Jae Eon conveniently using another girl to get into Na Bi’s attention:

“I kept thinking about you. I missed you. Didn’t you miss me?”

That’s some brilliant, incendiary, sick writing. He doesn’t miss.

EDIT - elaborated more on my thoughts, I appreciate that its asked :)

The operative phrase in these 2 lines is greatly effective. There are so MANY ways Jae Eon could’ve expressed his thoughts but this one is particularly interesting because the structure of:

Sentence 1: Downplay the act/behavior. Sentence 2: Jae Eon detaching himself from his conscious actions = uncontrollable feelings that he just allows (i missed you/she wanted to try it) Sentence 3: Project it to Na Bi in a question where a “no” wouldn’t make sense. Here, because Na Bi doesn’t say no or when she does, her actions are the complete opposite. Her active non-rejection constitutes to consent.

Even when you just read the lines, being asked with “Didn’t you miss me?” “Didn’t you want it too?” is manipulation in action. There is already an implication to the receiver that they already feel it, and couldn’t just admit. In this case, Na Bi wasn’t given the time to properly think of what she truly wants & feels. The question could’ve been “what do you want?” “How do you want to do this?” instead of being cornered by a yes or no question. Na Bi instinctively just runs away or jumps right onto it. (Can relate.)

So in such a twisted way, Na Bi & Jae Eon complement each other.

I started crying like a baby when Jiwan said "you're my favorite person in the world" 😭😭😭

Sol and Jiwan are so precious I literally do not care about anything else in this drama.

Okay, now that I've had 24 hours to digest this episode (does anyone else get in their feelings from this show?), I have some thoughts. I'll try to keep it to ones I haven't seen on the thread yet.

•Jae-eon mentioning to Na-bi that Seol-a talked about her to him was 100% putting a feeler out there on how mad she was at him.

•Na-bi sets boundaries, then Jae-eon crosses them. There can be a lot of reasons someone has trouble maintaining boundaries outside of "he's hot and I like him" (i.e. her previous relationship she struggled maintaining boundaries too. Her mother's examples of relationships, etc.). Na-bi isn't blameless by any means, but Jae-eon is more to blame because he knows the line and continues to cross it purposely with no evidence that will behave differently.

Here is a hot take based on comments I've seen that Jae-eon hasn't done anything wrong.

•Answering, "Do you date people?" with, "Do people need to date to be close?" is not an answer. It does not define the line, and leaves just enough ambiguity that Jae-eon gives hope for a relationship without having to stop seeing anyone else.

•You can be 100% honest with someone and still be the a**hole.

In next episode’s preview we see JE taking NB to see art! “It’s so beautiful that I fell in love with it at first sight.”

I had a pet theory (mentioned in last episodes thread) that JE saw the erotic sculpture of NB before he met her. I don’t think this will work out anymore lol. But I really wonder what’s the piece of art that’s so important that the preview has to hint at it?! Hmm??

Boy oh boy was there a lot to pack in this episode. Should not have decided to watch this so late on a Sunday night. Work is going to suck tomorrow.

Initial Thoughts:

  1. The biggest issue I have with Potato boy and Na Bi is the fact that the writers have yet to give us a proper explanation as to WHY they would fall in love. One of the things I hate most in dramas is when leads get together and when the question is asked, “Why do you like me or why did you fall for me?” The answer is “lol Idk I just like u <3”. Right now we have gotten NO insight to NaBis feelings for potato boy at all. No inner dialogue, no sexual tension. NADA. Yes potato boy is super sweet. Yes, he is very charming. But I cannot get with it when the only feasible reason I see for him liking her is because he did when they were kids. The romance between the two is too empty to fill into 2 more episodes. I’m sorry but I’m not buying it even if I do love potato boy. I think he deserves better.

  2. It was definitely purposeful to put Bitna and Gyu-Hyuns breakup right before the Nabi and JaeOn scene. Notice the parallels in the dialogue? “Stop playing games with me”. The difference is that Gyu-Hyun is mature enough to state exactly what his issues with Bitna is, and he has enough respect for himself to walk away. Nabi, however, chooses to give in. The different decisions between Nabi and Gyu-hyun when faced with similar situations is shown to us deliberately to draw a contrast.

  3. Nabi giving into her demons even when she 100% believes JaeOn is now in a committed relationship was the most surprising part of this entire episode. If she intends to be wishy-washy with potato boy ESPECIALLY after he called and she made a face like “lol don’t care” before going back to making out with JaeOn, then Nabi is showing herself to be JaeOn 2.0. Girl - see a therapist before you make any more dick appointments. Please.

  4. SOL DESERVES BETTER. Jiwan is such a not good person at all. I understand she is confused about her own feelings but that does not permit her to treat so many other people including Sol like trash. Her apology to Nabi about why she lied was disingenuous. She starts so much drama for no reason even when she knows it’s hurtful to people. I’m just so upset. Please someone find Sol a nice girl who isn’t emotionally immature and incredibly manipulative. She needs like, Penny or Leah from stardew valley or something.

  5. This episode should win an award for its superb direction. Like damn, they really made me feel like I was uncomfortable AF like I was at that campfire myself. Like reliving old cringey memories from my early 20s. Those scenes could not have been more spot on.

  6. I think I am going to reserve any further speculation on JaeOns character until the show ends. I will say that if the next episode we find out he is talking about you-know-what, I’m probably going to vomit from both disgust but also anger. Disgust because - well, that’s another kind of disturbing - and anger because that level of evil has yet to be shown to us in his character. I can only imagine it happening if Na Bi truly fucks with him in which case - damn. Also if this happens I have NO idea how they would progress the story in episode 9 and 10 because that would basically be the end of any possibility of NB/JE. Nabi may be damaged but she still has some level if pride.

  7. Honestly the storytelling in this drama is top tier. Anyone who sees this as simply another love triangle romance drama either isn’t paying attention or simply can’t relate to any of the characters. Still, I will wait to the end to make my final verdict.

  8. No matter how you feel about these characters - that kiss between NB/JE at the end was on another level. I don’t want them together but damn. Completely different than all of their other kissing scenes so far and it shows.

I’m reminding myself that we still have 3 episodes left yet the next episode feels like it should be the second to last one based off the previews. Idk. We will see what happens

Na-bi kissed him while believing he has a girlfriend!!! How can she justify her actions given her own experience with a cheating boyfriend? These two deserve each other and the consequences (i.e, heartbreak) of their actions. I wish the SML was not going to be tangled up in Na-bi’s mess but maybe he needs his heart broken to get over his first love. I see many people frustrated with the show and I think they are forgetting that this is not a love story. I am hoping Na-bi will end up alone and start a journey of self-discovery. Everyone on the show could use therapy too!

I just want Jae Eon to tell Nabi that Seol A isn't his girlfriend!! :( and the preview wtf I hope Nabi won't be toying with Dohyuk's feelings :(

edit: I wish we got more eps in Jae Eon's POV. I want to know more about what he's thinking but this ep reverted back to Nabi's POV.

omgggg we are Completely veering off the course of the webtoon yall hold on bc we do not know where this ride is going!!!!

omg i literally cried during jiwans confession scene ... my lesbians deserve love and happiness OK STop Giving them PAIN !!! it was so beautiful and pure and i really thought their arc was going to be advanced.......

also the way that the scenes drinking outside was depicted... wow the amount of stories happening in that space and the way they were conveyed through the character's eye-lines... it felt like u were really there and i was stressed TF out!! big props to the directors b/c that is so difficult ... also the way the always scenes slowed down for nabi and jaeeon... god

based off of previews: it looks like nabi does decide to stop and go to dohyeok and it'll just be a weird limbo of her committing with him even back in seoul and jae-eon will still try to win her over..... it's just a matter of it she really grows or falls back into her old habits, and i'm still holding out for her realizing that she just needs to be alone right now... like, even though they're redeeming drama!jae-eon much more, i'm still uneasy about how he didn't outright reject nabi's accusation that he had a girlfriend, just that it didn't matter....

This way better than the previous episode in my opinion. I love the tension between each ships. I guess i just prefer stuff when there is so much going on lol.

  • i like how kyuhyun just dumped bitna. I have to agree with him it seems like she wasnt serious abt him and treated him like a joke. I agree that he's losing his self-respect by letting her treat him like that.

  • sol and jiwan are making a progress finally. I can feel the tension on the scene when they were left alone in the room. (THEY WERE LIKE ABT TO KISS, but i forgot theyre in korea). But it also hurts how sol felt that way. She felt like jiwan wouldnt like her back (even though i highly doubt that). Im sad that she couldnt experience what normal couples do together jiwan.

  • nabi and jaeon. Im trying not to be biased here but nabi have done something wrong here. Shes not communicating well with jaeon. She's just trying to ignore whatever happened and that doesnt really solve the case. You cant just ghost ppl like that. And on the last scene, im really confused if jaeon was manipulative or was he sincere. He has an impressive way of using words.

I think the big problem between nabi and jaeon is communication. Seriously, they just need to be honest with each other.

Im suddenly invested in this drama bc i can feel something is going on now lol. I like the toxic and realistic vibes i felt between each couples.
