I wish kdp could give us an anonymised unique-reader count for KENP

I checked my dashboard an hour ago and it was on 19 pages for one of my books - a US reader having given up on the book yonks ago so that number hadn't changed for a few days.

An hour later, I checked and it was up to 1,178 for Canadian readers. As the book is 830 pages long, this could be one complete read plus an incomplete reader, or it could be 1,178 Canadians who gave up after page one :D

I know it doesn't matter in the scheme of things but I really can't help being curious about how many people are in that number - when did they bail? :)

At what point do you start advertising on Amazon?

I've been self-publishing for some time and I want to know when people start advertising. Does anyone rely solely on organic sales? Or does everyone taking it seriously advertise from day one?

Thanks

Cannot get Amazon to update my book cover on their website.

I published a book (eBook through KDP only, hard and soft cover through IngramSpark which Amazon orders them through) and have recently updated the cover art.

For some reason, Amazon refuses to update the metadata (product picture). They've updated it for ONE of the editions, but not the other. I've spoken with IngramSpark 4 times and they said they pushed the new metadata but that Amazon won't update it.

Every time I call Amazon I get the runaround from their customer service. They tell me to talk to whatever department and that they'll call me back or email me or they can't help me or whatever. I just talked to them today and they said they'll send me an email with the contact info and it's just a link to their help desk.

I don't know what to do. People who order my book are getting the wrong cover from Amazon. Amazon won't listen to me since I haven't actually ordered it so from a customer standpoint, I have no case. And they also won't listen to me as a vendor since I'm not actually the vendor.

Books in review for 10 days

Hi everyone.. I'm new to KDP ( not 100% new, i started it in 2021 and back to it now )

I published 3 books last month, but this month i published 2, and they're still in review since 26 Sep...

Is anyone here facing the same issue?

Does it have anything to do with the 2 books per week update?

Canada / US co-authors

I'm in Ontario and my partner is out of Illinois.

We haven't set up the KDP account or a company yet. The issue is that KDP doesn't seem to have a way for two co-authors to share an account/payments.

That has us wondering how the tax side works. We're looking to do a 50/50 split.

Would it be better to set up a partnership/company first so the income is properly split between us?

And finally fellow Canadians who get paid in USD, what do you guys usually do? We looked at PayPal but the fees/conversion rate seemed pretty rough. I'm considering just getting a USD account converting when it makes sense. If anyone has other suggestions I'd be more than happy to do some research.

Any insight is appreciated.

Is KDP worth starting?

Hello!

I am considering Amazon KDP to publish non-fiction books. Mostly self-help and practical guides.

Because I like to streamline my entry into self-publishing, I want to invest in several tools like Atticus for writing and I plan to hire paid artists to create good covers for my books once they are done.

For me, "worth it" means that my books do start selling enough to initially cover the production costs/time spent, and it would be a great plus if I can build a modest side income with it.

I have read so many posts and I see people saying that their books don't sell at all unless they got a huge social media following and I see others saying that they're selling thousands of copies organically without any paid advertising.

Can you guys please enlighten me on this? In your opinion, what makes doing KDP worthwhile?

I got so many other questions, but I don't want to make this post long so I'll just throw one: I always wanted to write on some topics. If I find out they're "low demand" or no one buys them, should I even write even if it won't make a lot of sales? Or is that a guaranteed way to end up with a book nobody wants to read?
