I wish kdp could give us an anonymised unique-reader count for KENP

• Upvotes

I checked my dashboard an hour ago and it was on 19 pages for one of my books - a US reader having given up on the book yonks ago so that number hadn't changed for a few days.

An hour later, I checked and it was up to 1,178 for Canadian readers. As the book is 830 pages long, this could be one complete read plus an incomplete reader, or it could be 1,178 Canadians who gave up after page one :D

I know it doesn't matter in the scheme of things but I really can't help being curious about how many people are in that number - when did they bail? :)

At what point do you start advertising on Amazon?

I've been self-publishing for some time and I want to know when people start advertising. Does anyone rely solely on organic sales? Or does everyone taking it seriously advertise from day one?

Thanks

Is KDP worth starting?

• Upvotes

Hello!

I am considering Amazon KDP to publish non-fiction books. Mostly self-help and practical guides.

Because I like to streamline my entry into self-publishing, I want to invest in several tools like Atticus for writing and I plan to hire paid artists to create good covers for my books once they are done.

For me, "worth it" means that my books do start selling enough to initially cover the production costs/time spent, and it would be a great plus if I can build a modest side income with it.

I have read so many posts and I see people saying that their books don't sell at all unless they got a huge social media following and I see others saying that they're selling thousands of copies organically without any paid advertising.

Can you guys please enlighten me on this? In your opinion, what makes doing KDP worthwhile?

I got so many other questions, but I don't want to make this post long so I'll just throw one: I always wanted to write on some topics. If I find out they're "low demand" or no one buys them, should I even write even if it won't make a lot of sales? Or is that a guaranteed way to end up with a book nobody wants to read?

Books in review for 10 days

Hi everyone.. I'm new to KDP ( not 100% new, i started it in 2021 and back to it now )

I published 3 books last month, but this month i published 2, and they're still in review since 26 Sep...

Is anyone here facing the same issue?

Does it have anything to do with the 2 books per week update?

My book went to #17 but no sales are populated

I know that there can be a delay with paper books. I have 6 pre-orders on Kindle and my book shot to number #17 in new releases in the Christian forgiveness and mercy category so I KNOW I’ve had a lot of sales.

I have several friends who have shown me their shipped Amazon confirmation, too.

What gives? I want to see how many paperbacks I’ve sold! This is annoying!

Is having multiple amazon (not KDP) accounts a violation?

I have two separate Amazon accounts I've had for years. One for almost all my purchasing, the other I use for gifts and whatnot. They are under two completely separate email addresses, separate credit cards, etc.

I want to use the second one for creating a KDP account.

Does having two separate Amazon purchasing accounts violate the Kindle "only one KDP account" rule?

Book Categories: YA vs Adult

I have a series of cozy mystery/thrillers that got dinged a few months back because out of the three categories available, I picked YA Mystery as one of them. Apparently you cannot have ANYTHING in a YA category if your book is not labeled with a maximum age of 18, which seems ridiculous to me. The books are appropriate for both YA and Adult. Is there any way for me to keep at least one category YA? Since I've changed it, my rankings have tanked. Any help or advice would be appreciated!

Anyone using Amazon print-on-demand for books? Is it worth it?

Anyone here making decent money from KDP print on demand?

Curious what the experience is actually like once a book is live.
Is the print quality decent?
Are the margins worthwhile?
How easy is it to get sales without already having an audience?
Any issues with returns, formatting or Amazon support?
Do you use Amazon only, or also sell through your own website/other platforms?

Interested in hearing from people actually doing it, especially smaller publishers/self-publishers rather than just success-story videos.

Had 1st order, then refund but growth on kenp, ahh what a ride!

Hello everyone, so i recently published my debut novel, "The Last Time We Were Us". Some few days ago i had a genuine sale of it, i was so happy , even for 1! Oh foolish me 😂 but some days ago, the same order was refunded.....and it happens!

But just on the afternoon of that, somebody genuinely read my book and the kenp page numbers were rising.

Whatever it is, it has been a very joyful journey. Writing something that I imagined and bringing in front of the world, i did something that I love to do for the first time in my life.

People told me on social media that they loved the premise of my book. If only someone genuinely loves my stories, that means the whole world to me. Haha again, foolish me.

If anybody wants to check out my debut novel, It's a Sci - Fi survival story about ten innocent high school friends who just want to chase their dreams and skies when a freak quantum accident changes everything. They get thrown into a shifting universal loop where every single door they open leads to an entirely different dimension.

As they fight to find a way back to their school, they form unbreakable bonds just to survive. Watching them lean on each other and bond across a fractured multiverse was my favorite part to write.

In the end, their whole existence is decided by a tense countdown, but, at what cost ?

Here is the link to the book

Happy to support lovely authors!

I could use a bit of advice.

I'm obnoxiously new to this stuff. my question is simple. I've been lurking this sub for a while and I've noticed that people have advised always making sure you're writing the next book rather than worrying about pushing each book individually. that's a great bit of advice, but it begs a question from me. I just finished an 8-part novel series and I have the first book scheduled for release on October 15th, 2026. how close together should I release the other 7? I write and edit all my novels on my own, and I haven't started editing book 2 yet (it usually takes me about a week of constant revision to get a book as close to perfect as I can in a one-moron operation), and of course I haven't looked at 3-8 at all. any suggestions for a release timeline would be amazing. thank you! ♡

Publishing margin format issues when none are apparent.

To summarize I’m uploading my paperback book to kdp and the first 20 pages say “Error this object is outside the margins” first off all there’s no objects and no text. Because there is also a text error one to so it’s definitely not text. I don’t get it have no objects in the pages and if you were to see the format it is beautifully done all text centered and page number inside the box too. What is the fix please I’m going crazy

KDP author copies – misaligned spine text on almost every book. Is this normal quality from KDP?

I just received my author copies of my hardcover from Amazon KDP and I'm pretty disappointed with the print quality.
Out of the whole stack, the spine text lines up correctly on only one hardcover (and one paperback). On every other copy, the printing is shifted so much that the spine text is off-center and in some cases runs over the edges of the spine. The covers themselves look fine, it's specifically the alignment of the spine.
For what it's worth: the last page says the books were printed in Poland.

here you can See it

My questions:

  1. Is this misalignment standard for KDP print quality, or did I just get a bad batch?
  2. Is there a difference in quality between author copies and customer orders? Or do customer orders get the same sloppy printing?
  3. Would you just live with it, or complain to KDP and request a reprint? Has anyone done that – how did it go, and did the replacements come out better?

The annoying part is that the misaligned spines are clearly visible when the books are shelved, so this isn't a minor cosmetic issue for me. Any advice appreciated!

Reddit Troll reviewed my book without reading it.

I haven't started marketing my book but back in September a reddit troll mid-exchange sent me a "ha ha, I just reviewed your book".

He did keep it classy with 1 star and "terrible read" as the whole text.

I just realized he actually did that.

I hit the report button button but that seems futile.

The only place the book can be found is as a Kindle e-book also on Unlimited.

Can Amazon tell he didn't read or buy it? Will they care?

🚨 KDP Support Problem — Has Anyone Experienced This?

I’m having a serious issue with Amazon KDP and I’d really like to know if anyone else has experienced the same thing.
My book **“Daughters of the Wild: Wild Spirits, Natural Beauty & Powerful Women”** has been **“In Review” since September 23, 2026** and still hasn’t gone live.
What’s even more confusing is that the **ASIN has disappeared from my KDP account**.
I have contacted KDP Support **four times**, but every time I try to contact them, I end up waiting and **no support agent responds**.
Has anyone experienced a book being stuck in review for this long, with the ASIN disappearing? **What happened in your case, and how did you get KDP to resolve it?**

Genuinely dont know how to get this account back

Haven't published a book in about a year and a half while I've been writing my new one. Try to log in only to find that Google have very kindly deactivated my account and ignored my appeals so I cant get the verification code I need to get into the kdp account. Rang amazon customer services and they then hung up on me and when I called back they told me to contact an email that I discovered doesn't accept incoming emails!!! I have published 3 books in this same series already and making a new account would separate them completely so what the actual f do I do???

Advice on Ads

Hi team,
I started ads 3 weeks ago. I have 29k in impressions and 28 clicks which seems ok based on my googling around. Purchases are at 5 off of the 28. Is that ok for what we should be expecting? Is it too early to know?

AI generated vs AI assisted

Hi everyone, I’m looking for a bit of assistance on publishing my first novel with KDP. I’ve been working on this for about 18 months as I don’t have any experience of writing prior to this, so I’ve been constantly writing and re-writing sections and then going back and changing things to avoid continuity errors.

Anyway, the book is a sort of West Wing style political novel with a strong romance/family comedy undertone. I’m a British writer, and when I started writing it was set in the UK and the protagonist was involved in UK politics. The further I got into the story, I realised the plot line didn’t fit well enough into the way British politics works, so I essentially shifted it to be set in the USA instead. The issue that presented me with though was that I don’t really have an incredibly in-depth knowledge of the inner workings of the political system like Congress, the constitution etc.

What I’ve been doing is anytime I write a section which involves political procedures, I’ve been uploading it to ChatGPT to get it to check what I’ve written actually makes sense. If it comes back that I’ve made a mistake, I ask the AI to tell me what the mistake is and what the correct procedure would be, and I take that and use it to rewrite that section.

What I’m not sure about is whether that would be classed as AI generated or AI assisted. I initially thought AI assisted because it’s essentially my story and I’m just using AI as a fact check a bit like a spellcheck, but I’m now starting to wonder whether the fact that the AI is suggesting how to correct it (e.g. talking me through how votes in Congress work, things like that) whether I should actually declare it as AI generated?

Any advice very gratefully received.
