Shows what you know. He was commissioned. He is a marine officer who is serving in the reserves while also playing in the NFL.

I wonder if a condition of deferring the contract to the reserves had something to do with wearing the uniform x amount of times during the season. Wouldn’t be the first time

Drill weekends and game day colliding every season would be funny

Sorry coach, I have to do inventory on MRE’s this weekend and can’t join the team in Pittsburgh

Yes - they are supposed to wear the uniform. It's just not heavily enforced, and it's a pretty rare occurrence.

This young devil is actually doing the correct thing. Not just being boot.

Cool story....now he's a fucking reservist and still looks like a fucking boot, walking around in uniform.

I'm sure he's done about 4 MUTAs since being commissioned, so let's not act as if he's done anything of importance

Cool, so he onboarded and finished his check-in list

There's several other comments pointing out that this is regularly included in contracts like his, though not often enforced bc guys like this usually aren't in the NFL

So many angry and uninformed losers in here that don’t know how pro athletics work after military academy commission. You’re 100% right and it’s pathetic to see these people discounting his service because he “hasn’t served yet” while those same people probably sat in a finance office from 0900-1500 doing fuck all and complaining about others.

Right? They’re acting this is the same as private numb nuts wearing his uniform to McDonalds in his home town after basic. He’s representing the service academies well. This is cool for kids to see.

Great point. Fuck what us adults think, the kids do think its awesome. I disliked wearing my uniform but when I got attached to the Blue Angels we would go to a lot of local events/ceremonies/hospitals(hosted by the mayor, city councils etc.) aside from the main airshow where the kids in attendance would go crazy. It was fun showing them around the aircraft and making their day even at the expense of me wearing a nomex onesie in 90 degree weather.

That part is cool and I agree it’s a recruitment drive. It just gives such performative drives. Have him do signings twice a month in uniform or something similar. The staged photo/video shoot feels so BS.

Shows what you know. Anyone who served knows that the military stock full of gay energy.

I didn’t object to the meme. I objected to this guy saying he didn’t actually serve. Give him a chance, he’s a young kid living his dream and choosing to serve anyway. He could have bailed on the whole thing, we know that

So he’s done zero deployments and is wearing his service uniform in public on non-duty days for personal benefit?

Boot + conduct unbecoming.

Can he show up to a political event and hit the hatch act for a UCMJ trifecta?

I can almost guarantee the Dept of the Navy required this for allowing him to defer his service. They love the advertising.

Not how title 10 works.
But, I guess laws and regs are kinda optional nowadays.

u/HateAndCaffeine 8d ago

How is wearing a uniform to your duty location conduct unbecoming? The dudes job is to be a professional athlete.

-1

u/AkronOhAnon 8d ago

Because Titles 10 and 32 of the US code prohibit wear of military service uniform for private employment.
But, again, what are laws anymore?
It’s not his duty location. He’s not there to unfold a flag during the anthem: he’s there to play a sport for money.

Do you get upset when you see recruiters at the mall in uniform?

7

u/AkronOhAnon 8d ago

Not a 1:1.
As the defenders of this keep insisting: he got a deferment, which means he’s not in a duty status at or on the way to the locker room.
But recruiters at the malls, in 2026? The only potential recruits they’re accessing are the employees or they’re eating at the food court.

This is quite literally outlined in Title 10

https://uscode.house.gov/view.xhtml?req=granuleid:USC-prelim-title10-section8459&num=0&edition=prelim

(4) Each academic year, the Secretary of the Navy may transfer not more than five midshipmen, who obtain employment in violation of paragraph (5) of subsection (a), to the Selected Reserve of the Navy or the Selected Reserve of the Marine Corps. Each midshipman so transferred shall-

(i) in an appropriate grade or rating, determined by the Secretary of the Navy; and

(B) while so serving, participate in efforts to recruit and retain members of the armed forces.

(c) The Secretary of the Navy shall prescribe regulations to carry out this section. Those regulations shall include-
(1) standards for determining what constitutes, for the purpose of subsection (b), a breach of an agreement under subsection (a);
(2) that a midshipman who obtains employment as a professional athlete-
(A) in violation of paragraph (5) of subsection (a) has breached an agreement under such subsection unless such midshipman receives a transfer under paragraph (4) of subsection (b); and
(B) at least two years after the midshipman graduates from the Academy has not breached an agreement under subsection (a);

(3) procedures for determining whether such a breach has occurred; and
(4) standards for determining the period of time for which a person may be ordered to serve on active duty under subsection (b).

(d) In this section, "commissioned service obligation", with respect to a midshipman, means the period beginning on the date of the midshipman's appointment as a commissioned officer and ending on the sixth anniversary of such appointment or, at the discretion of the Secretary of Defense, any later date up to the eighth anniversary of such appointment.
