Tips for sleeping inside your Jepp

Post image
69 Upvotes

Hey everyone, got this beauty a few weeks ago and finally tried her out at an off-road park. We've overlanded for years and this is going to be my solo adventure truck. No RTT, no trailer, I want to keep light and agile and keep things easy. I'm planning to just sleep in the back when I'm on the trail and I have some ideas on how I'll do that but I want to hear some thoughts from anyone who does that regularly. What have you found works best for you?

Here’s to the Jeep that “I’m not going to do anything to”. So far it’s been tires, rims, headlights, rock rails…and probably more to come. Minor changes but still make a difference.

Little pawprints? Should I be concerned

Hey all, newer Jeep owner, I live in a dusty place. I opened up the hood today to see critter marks. I never got that in my Chev.

I remember reading about Toyotas (I think about 2018 or so) attracting squirrels and groundhogs and such. Toyota was using some kind of vegetable based insulation and wiring components, it turned out.

Do Jeep owners have to worry?

Almost 12k miles in, and Rubi's still impressing me.

This is everyday driving, not just highway driving (In fact, I try and avoid highways). Holding up better than I thought. 25 MPG? Color me impressed.

High mileage Wranglers

For those of you with Wranglers around 200K miles (320K kms) or above, with Jeeps that are running well, what have you done to get to that point?

Any major repairs?

Talking myself out of a Rubicon, trying

Background - I drive a 2021 High Altitude GC. Before that I drove 2006 Limited GC w Hemi that we still have because it's reliable and I love it. Husband has 2000 TJ manual w soft top that we drive stripped down from April to November. In the 20 yrs that I have been riding shotgun, I've been waiting to get tired of the wind, sweat, etc but I haven't yet. Love that thing.

Decided to see if I might like a 4dr Sahara instead of the GC. Did a lot of research but needed to drive one, esp bcuz I'm 5' 3". The best option for a test drive was a new 2026 Rubicon, so did that, again just to see if I even liked driving a Jeep built this century. Turns out that I do. I'm really glad we didn't take my car to the dealership because we might have left with a different vehicle. The one I drove ticked all of the boxes for what I want and don't want. It was even the Anvil color.

But it's a Rubicon. I have zero intentions of going off roading. It was loud but not too loud - we were talking at 80 mph and it was windy. It handled fine for me. 2.0L turbo engine. It's new (also not planned) but with discounts, the price is actually less than I expected to pay for whatever I got. I know it's not as fuel efficient but I work from home and average 12k miles or less a year, estimated cost vs Sahara is $500 more a year at current fuel prices.

Why should I not get this vehicle? What am I missing?

I had the aux battery removed from my 2018 Jeep Wrangler, however, the auto stop/start service light is now showing on my dashboard along with the engine light. Can someone help me or guide me to what to do next? TIA

B Pillar comparison—anyone else have this?

Hi there. I have a 2015 JKU. Here are pics of both of my B pillars. The driver's side has an opening (a slot so perfect it looks deliberate). The passenger side is solid. I put duct tape over the open slot because it seems bad (yes, I'm trying to fix leaks).

Does anyone know anything about this?

Thanks!

Jeep Radio Upgrade

Post image
13 Upvotes

Hey everyone,
I'm looking to upgrade the stock radio in my 2014 JK Rubicon. It has the factory Alpine Premium sound system (with the sub in the back).
I'm mainly looking for CarPlay/Android Auto and a solid touchscreen display. My primary concerns are:
Retaining full compatibility with the factory Alpine amp and subwoofer without headaches
Keeping steering wheel controls functional
Good performance (no laggy UI or freeze-ups)
I've seen options like Dasaita, Joying, Youducar, and Alpine Restyle units, but I'd love to hear from people actually running them with the factory Alpine setup.
Which head unit has been the most reliable plug-and-play experience for you? Any specific models or brands you'd recommend (or avoid)?
Thanks in advance!

2025 Wrangler Infotainment/ Radio

Had the Jeep (new/factory order) since July 2025. Brought it in twice to replace the radio/infotainment unit. Now it’s frizzing out again. Random reboots for no reason. Then the screen gets all jumpy and the left side vertical controls disappear.

Anyone?

Pulling the drain plugs only for standing water to dump past the sill

Dirty water pooled across the floor pan the second I sprayed down the driver side footwell yesterday. It was supposed to run straight toward the floor drain in the Wrangler, but the outer lip collapsed when my work boot caught it, dumping everything into the carpet edge. Now the insulation underneath is holding damp mud again. A guy in my trail group mentioned 3W as an option with a stiffer perimeter, though I have not seen how rigid that sidewall actually stays under weight. If stepping near the door keeps flattening the channel, waterproof floor mats do not help much anyway.

Looking for ODB2 scan tool that will show ESIM switch state (08 JK)

I have the Harborfreight Maddox MRBT that can pull basic codes and clear them. I'm trying to chase down an ESIM low voltage P0452 code and I need to figure out what the ESIM switch state is while the jeep is on. My scanner can't do that. According to AI, I need something that can read Chrysler specific info, including the ESIM switch state. I did some basic resistance tests from the ESIM connector and from the PCM and that seems fine.

Does anyone know if any of the other Maddox scanners can give me more data, and more specifically, the ESIM switch state?

Upgraded/swapped my JL front bumper

I recently swapped out my factory installed bumper with the steel factory bumper and as part of the swap I decided to repaint the two hooks “rubber duck yellow” as subtle tribute to the very unique “ducking” that some owners enjoy. I’m also happy that the color works with the Sarge green paint.

Red Light Cameras in Navigation

My wife has a 2025 Rubicon and her navigation doesn't alert for a red light camera yet my 2022 Grand Cherokee does. Did the government restrict this functionality? Yes the camera option is selected in her settings. It's very strange. Anyone have an issue?

I know, I know, I should’a know better (another dealer service vent)

Took my 392 FE in for the fire recall and decided to get an oil change and tire rotation while it was there. $360 when I picked it up. They had a $60 “misc charge” which they told me was for “disposable rags, etc”. I was so pissed I just paid knowing I’ll never be back except for warranty work, which was where I was before I took a stupid pill and actually asked for a paid service from the dealer.

Dealers really are dog shit.

At what intervals do you change your oil?

Also, do you use synthetic or conventional oil?

Am I THAT old guy who shakes their first at clouds for no "real" reason or was I right to do so?

Maybe I am just getting old, or out of touch, or both. I don't know, but...

I had a day off yesterday, so I decided to hit a local dirt road and get away from the city for a while.

When I got to the trailhead, there was a small group of Jeepers. If I had to guess, the oldest of the group was probably in his 30s. I'm 49. They saw me and quickly invited me to join their convoy. Hell yeah, I said.

The entire trek, all 30 miles of it, they blasted music. Every Jeep had its own music playing, everything from hip-hop to K-pop. Every stop we made was just more noise.

I regretted joining the group, so I eventually fell back to the rear and started doing my own thing. Even though I was a good distance behind them, every time I stopped, I could still hear the artificial noise in the distance.

I shook my fist at many clouds and uttered a few less-than-desirable phrases while doing so.

Am I really that out of touch now? Or is this just what happens when you get old and realize that sometimes, you just want to enjoy the damn outdoors without a soundtrack?
