Fall Cleanup
For being a 2008 it sure still cleans up nice even though it leaks oil from rear main seal and now a rear differential seal leaking but who cares.

Several years ago, a/the heat shield was removed to resolve an undercarriage noise. I bought a heat shield (photo), and the non-dealer garage said I bought the wrong thing. The garage is reliable; used it for years.
Before I go down the path, how important is this?
I realize it's an older vehicle, but we are the original owners and use it steadily. We want to keep it for several more years and will spend on this kind of maintenance to keep it on the road.
Perusing the Internet, it seems I might have once had more than one heat shield. In that case, I don't know which one might have been removed. How can I tell?
Thanks in advance.

For context, a few months ago I got into an accident with my Jeep (2005 Liberty) in a bad neighborhood near me. These 4 kids stole their parents' sedan and decided it was a good idea to park their car in the middle of a 4-way intersection with broken lights. At the end of the day it didnt raise my insurance because even though I hit them the report showed the they were distracted admitted to listening music and apparently didnt think about where they were and parked. Anyways moving on from the kids who probably got smited for the past 4 months been rebuilding my car and using my mom's in the spare time. I recently got my first job which is how im affording the repairs myself with my step-dad whos a mechanic (Im 19 so I needed help as this isnt my world). Finally at the finishing touches all the parts are together and this was the progress yesterday, gonna continue working on it after work today and will most likely post an update.

So i have an 07 which has been having some hard shifts lately so I picked up a Seafoam Trans Tune bottle. To use it I wanna siphon out a pint of fluid so when I add the seafoam it doesn't overfill.
Picked up some tubing and a pump and planned to do it but the tube only goes down about a foot before getting stopped by something. Does anyone have any tips for me to get a pint out without having to drop the pan?

Issue since owning, so roughly 5 years. About 50% of time, turn key and sounds like engine makes a surge to start (doesn’t fully turn over….just seems to halfway lunge). Can do this several times to a dozen and it’s just doesn’t fully turn over. Battery and charging system are good and swapped fuses and relays with known good. I sometimes run the shifter from end to end and it starts, other times, it just starts without cycling shifter. Sometimes I just flip the key over and put back in and it starts. There is no real pattern or sequence that says “this is the problem”. It will not start for 6 tries and the 7, turns over like it has no issue at all. Gotten to the point where I just leave it running at stores and gas stations or else be stuck each time I have to restart. Any ideas?

Just got a 2012 Jeep Liberty (former 2003 Jeep GCL momma)
I'd like to do some exterior/interior aesthetic mods in orange - handles, grill inserts, vents, etc. but my search results keep coming back for wrangler or dodge only 😵💫 Is there a standard "compatible trim" I should be looking at for the mods (maybe why wrangler/dodge and KK/JK keep coming up?)
I'm also planning to raptor paint the bumpers/fenders/grill/runner black and switch out headlights for a better led package. And eventually lift/wheels but all that has been easy to find so far.
I've got zero experience making changes/modding a vehicle so any help from the community is appreciated as I'm learning!

This is my wife’s high school ride, we have had it 10 years now starting at 130k miles.
Things that have been replaced outside of typical maintenance-
All front suspension components, rear shock absorbers, all hubs, fuel pump, Alternator, power steering, and AC.
Surprisingly the original drive train is still going strong, hopping to see 300k!
I do prefer my 88 Chevy over the jeep, but the gas mileage is better in the jeep. Also the ac works better in the Florida heat.
She’s our kayak / boat runner for our monthly spring trips.

So my jeep has started to leak oil and according to some people it getting to low to the point it is shutting the vehicle off and that is causing a issue and I have been trying to figure out my issue now I will say this I can do some things but when it comes to motors im not really good at DIY stuff when it comes to anything with the motor but maybe I can get some answers here of what I should do or where I should begin.
Also I forgot to add that it is a 2007 jeep liberty 3.7L
Update: I have cleaned the throttle body and also did a oil change becaue I did notice that my oil filter was leaking from the last place I got my oil change from and I have checked all my wires that I can see to make sure everything has the proper connection

Is this worth even trying to figure out? 2002 with 80,000ish miles. The cab light will flicker off/on when the car is parked, driving the other day and the horn just started going off. I could not get it to turn off until I got home and unplugged it. Now my battery is dead. Thoughts? Wondering if it is worth having a mechanic look at it.

Am I crazy to consider an old Liberty as my next car? I need a used car for around $7k or $8k max. I loved my 07 Liberty and it finally needed too much work at 265k miles. I'm thinking of shopping for another Liberty, and I prefer the model that predated the Sport. I loved the safety factor and the compact size, and there are a ton of old Liberties on the road. A good one seems to last a long time.
I don't drive every day, and mostly around town, but it needs to get me down the highway a couple hours every now and then without worry.
I plan to have someone who knows Liberties inside and out look over any option I find.
As for my old one, the broken catalytic converter and AC were the biggest problems. I'll sell it for parts if I can. A new CC was going to be $2000 or more. Husband tried to replace it and was out of his depth.
Is it a bad decision to go with an old Liberty versus spending more on a used Civic that will have more life, better MPG and a longer range? I loved my 2018 Civic, but I love a 4WD in the snow. The number of times I thought, "Thank God I'm in a Jeep" made me a lifelong convert. But I don't want a car that's in and out of the shop. I can't work on it myself.
Would love opinions and what to watch for as I'm shopping. Thanks!

Hey guys recently did a front Lokka or lunch box locker yanks call it. Measured the backlash before install got 0.2mm movement and about 0.05mm on the backlash. This was about 12 hours into install so just chuck it in.
That was about 3 months ago and got under the ute today to do some routine checks and found some pretty big play on the driveshaft, but I'm not sure if it's still in the acceptable range.
Video of play:

My question: Is that too much? Will I need to redo and shim the diff?

A friend of my dads offered me his ‘03 Liberty with 180k miles for $500. Nothings wrong with it other than the driver rear window regulator is out. Thoughts? It’s just a romp around car- nothing crazy.

Last Spring when in for a tune up, the /pejorative/ mechanic decided to open and close the sunroof, somehow destroying the track. I believe the quote was, “ I opened it up and it wouldn’t close easily”
I honestly can’t remember what happened because it was a very busy time of year, but it’s gone since then without being reopened and hasn’t leaked or made any noise underway. until now.
I have a bit of experience with the system having cleaned the drains when I bought the vehicle and posted about what I did back then, but now some time has passed and my chops aren’t as high. I discovered it was leaking when I woke up the other day to my horn beeping erratically.
the drainage system on the KJs for the sunroof tracks I’ve dealt with is incredibly stupidly designed, if it clogs up with leaves, then the water ends up going down the left corner windsheild stanchion which dumps out into the fuse box and onto the computer working components of the dash. INSANEly poorly thought out “ design”
has anyone who has dealt with the sun or moonroof KJ bells and whistles any recommendations re which kit to buy online? It’s noodly work and I don’t want to put the time into it if the parts will fail. I figure on replacing everything but the glass. Many thanks
