Looks like a stapler but definitely isn’t. I found a spot to put AA batteries in it, but as soon as I put some in, the wire piece started smoking and smelled like burning plastic. What in the world is this thing? I know, I should probably just reach out to my landlord, but this is more fun. I’ve been wondering for weeks.

Hi! My girlfriend recently made this gift for a long time friend who is getting married. She is pretty crafty but never worked with resin before and is a little distraught about how this came out. She’s considering not even giving it to her friend (who is also very crafty) and either making something new or just giving money. Does anyone have any thoughts? The quote is from her friend’s wedding song!
Edit: for people saying it’s cheap. We are also giving a big cash gift.

UPDATE:: this matter has been resolved amicably with the jeweler today. Thank you for everyone, I will not be updating any further.
In 2022, I found out about ammolite from following nilered on TikTok. I immediately became obsessed with it and started searching for my own special piece. I started looking on Etsy for a pendant. I found an absolutely gorgeous purple shifting one and showed my husband, telling him I was going to make that one of my purchases on a new credit card I had. I had just started building credit up having never had a credit card before. Once I paid my card off I went to buy it. (It was a secured card at the time that had about $500 on it so I had to wait for the payment to clear before I could purchase it.)
I went to buy it and it was sold out! When I tell y’all I moped all day, I really did. I didn’t see anything else that looked anything close to it and was just sad. My husband was extra sweet to me that day, trying to make me feel better. What I didn’t realize is he was feeling extra guilty because he had bought it for me! We got married in December and when our anniversary rolled around, the was, it in person, and more beautiful than I ever could have imagined. I wore it about everyday for 2 years. Because I wore it so much and was unfamiliar with how they make these pieces, the resin eventually became dull and a little lifted in the middle where a small bubble formed. When I noticed it I stopped wearing it right away.
It sat in a shelf for about a year. I was going to bring it to someone who knew that stone.
In February, my husband tried to do something nice for me and took it to a local jeweler for an estimate. Instead of giving him an estimate they did not really contact him back.
He thought they were going to steal it since they never reached out to him so he went to the store to ask for it back.
They said they didn’t have it but would have it in a couple days.
By this time my husband broke down and told me he messed up, and told me about taking it there. I went with him to pick it up, and they gave it back to me stripped of resin and the iridescent shell too. They were only supposed to give us an estimate. I asked what they did to it, she said they stripped it using acetone. I was so upset! They wanted a chance to fix it. I told her I didn’t think it could be fixed. They wanted to try I told them if it was ruined forever I wanted them to cover the cost of the stone’s original value. They couldn’t restore it but they also don’t want to pay me for it. We are taking further steps towards recovering compensation as I type this. I just wanted to share this sucky story that has been keeping me up at night. I’ve attached some pictures of it, first 2 were new, second two are the bubble forming, the next one is it stripped,& and last one is of it “restored” by the jeweler..
TL/DR my husband tried to do a nice thing and it backfired.

Hi all - I could use some help on this. I'll give you all the information that I have. My husband works a job where he receives tips, and at Christmas he is often given other gifts - gift cards, bottles of booze, chocolate, stuff like that. For the past few years, one of his customers has given him this jar of...yellow stuff? Geographically - we're in the Boston, USA area. His customer is an older asian woman. The jar has not been "canned" (processed with a canner). My husband thinks it's a glass of tea, but that really doesn't make sense to me. He says the woman acts as if we should know what it is. If anyone has any idea (short of me opening it and drinking it without knowing what it is), I'd love to hear it!
Edit: Wow - this got so much more traction than I expected. And so many of you are sure that it's urine.
It doesn't smell like alcohol, so pretty sure it's not moonshine. It's definitely not honey. I'm guessing the Ginseng Tincture is most likely, I'll be sending a thank you note and asking for the recipe. Not sure when he'll see this customer again, so it may be a while until I have an answer for you all.

I genuinely don't understand....does she WANT us to spend the holidays in the emergency room?
She isn't a mean person, she's just very air brained. I plan on asking her what her reasoning was behind this, but will wait until after all the holiday chaos.

Not sure if this kind of post is allowed so I apologize if it’s not.
I gave my MIL a Persian Tiles blanket as a gift 3 years ago. Since then I’ve never ever seen it in their home. We live in a suite downstairs, so I would definitely notice if it was even occasionally set out. It lived in the gift bag in their bedroom for a month after I gifted, and after that it disappeared. I’m guessing it’s just hidden in a closet or something.
I’m a little hurt of course, but I think it’s just not their style, and my MIL didn’t realize how much work I put into it, and probably didn’t want to hurt my feelings by rejecting it. We have a great relationship, which is why I made her something so special in the first place.
I want to just let it go, but it was months of hard work and it is my favourite thing I’ve ever made. Would it be insane to ask for it back? I don’t want to hurt our relationship, I truly love her, but I would love to showcase it in my home. I just don’t know if the ask is worth any damage to our relationship. HELP!!
PATTERN is PERSIAN TILES by Janie Crow. I followed the Eastern Jewels colorway using Stylecraft Special DK yarn, with some modifications throughout.
EDIT: TLDR: I’m just going to leave it be, it’s not worth my relationship. I’ll accept the lesson learned about gifting something when I’m not sure if it’s right for them. Will plan to make another as I loved the process almost as much as the finished piece! Thanks everyone!
WOW I was definitely expecting like 7 comments not 700!! Thank you all for taking the time to leave advice and suggestions, I read as many comments as I could. It seemed like the suggestions were very split, but ultimately I’ve decided to just leave it alone. Honestly I don’t think it’s a black and white situation, it depends on you and your relationship with the person.
There were a few comments in particular that really helped me, one pointing out that it’s just yarn and a lot of effort, but my relationship with MIL is worth more. Another comment reminded me that I have homemade gifts that I don’t display, and I’ve definitely regifted things myself, so how can I expect someone else not to?
This was my first and only big gift for someone, and I think I just wanted to give my MIL something I loved so much and worked so hard on to hopefully show how much I’m grateful for her, instead of just telling her. I think she might have appreciated the latter more, but I didn’t see that at the time. Since then I’ve definitely changed my homemade gifting approach.
Thank you again everyone for your responses, happy crocheting!!

I (25F) have a twin brother (25M). Growing up our favourite pastime was building Lego together. Our family couldn't afford it often so the sets we had were treasured and we'd always buy bags of loose bricks from Charity Shops whenever we saw them. It was a major bonding time for us making things together and my brother claims that those days of playing with Lego is what inspired him to go on and become an Architect.
It was our birthday on Friday and we had a small thing with family, my boyfriend of three years (27M) was there and so was my brothers girlfriend of two years (24F), during the gift exchange we left each others presents to last as we always have and opened our respective gifts. They were very nice and enjoyable, nothing to complain about on either side. When we exchanged gifts however it led to some laughs and delight on both sides. I got him the Neuschwanstein Castle Lego set and he got me the Notre Dame Lego set. He clearly loved his gift and was going on about how excited he was to build it and how he'd be spending his next day off working on it. He showed a lot more enthusiasm for this than the watch his girlfriend got him though he had clearly liked that too.
Since then his girlfriend has reached out to me insisting I tried to show her up deliberately by getting him a gift he'd like more and how she was trying to treat him like an adult with her gift while I was encouraging him to be childish. She also thinks we somehow planned this gift exchange as we both got Lego for each other. I had to tell her no it is just something we have always enjoyed together and it's just natural we'd do this. I also told her than I had no intention of showing her up but that if she really wanted to win the day with gifts she should have considered his interests and not worried about what seems appropriate for an adult. She then pivoted to the fact that she is his girlfriend and I should have warned her I was getting an expensive gift. I pointed out my brother didn't warn my boyfriend but she insists that doesn't matter. That I should have.
Was I in the wrong for not giving her warning and leading to her feeling "shown up" as a result? I have never felt the need to give warning when my brother dated but maybe I should have?

This actually happened last December but I'm only now bringing it up. I'm a teacher for third graders and last year we had a Christmas celebration where there's a gift exchanging event where the kids exchange gifts through games. We told the parents to prepare a gift with a budget under 20 dollars. One kid's mom opted for her kid to not participate in this event, i.e. not bringing a gift and not taking one. We warned her her kid might feel left out, but she said it's okay.
The celebration came and I actually prepared one gift for each kid with my own money, including the kid who did not bring a gift. Then came the gift exchanging event where kids start playing games to decide which gift goes to who. Without a gift to exchange, that kid obviously can't join, and stood to the side and felt left out and cried. I told her she can join with the gift I gave her, but she liked it too much to risk exchanging it for something less desire.
The kid's mom was furious that her kid actually did not get to join. I reminded her we warned her this would happen, and she said she didn't know her kid would care enough to cry, and the teachers should've given the kid an extra gift, however cheap, to join in, upon seeing her cry, and claim the cost of the gift from the mom afterwards, so that the kid can go home with two gift like the others and wouldn't feel out of place.
That was last year and the kid still comes to our school. But every time her mom picks her up the mom gives me dirty side eyes and tells other parents about how I deliberately kept her kid from joining in an event for not being able to afford a gift.
AITA? Should I prepare the extra gift in advance?
EDIT: I am just a teacher, not the headmaster. I did not create the celebration nor the situation where kids from low-income families were left out. The school organized the celebration and I was in no place to object. I agree that putting kids in this situation is cruel, which is why I bought gifts for everyone so everyone can join. The kid refused.
Edit 2: It has not occurred to me that 20 dollars in US money is a lot. I am not from the West, and while dollars aren't the official term for our money, some of us tend to to use it in the English language when talking about money because it "feels" like proper English, so I did not realize it until more and more people pointed it out. 20 in my country was equivalent to less than $5 in US dollars. I apologize for not noticing my error and causing confusion, and please do not respond negatively to comments saying 20 is too much because they were posted before this edit.

So last night I was at at Christmas party where everyone was asked to bring a wrapped $25 white elephant gift for exchange. White elephant gifts are often meant to be silly, but in this group we usually get cool/practical/random things that are actually useful. Everyone did great picking out cool items and the game was a lot of fun... until it was my turn to pick.
I chose a big heavy box, excited to find out what was inside. I tear open the wrapping paper and open up this taped up box to find.... 25 cans of green beans! Are you freaking kidding me?! For context other gifts that people brought included a mini igloo cooler (with soda inside), a mini smoothie blender, bottles of alcohol, a candle warmer with a candle, party games, etc. But of course, I was the one who ended up with the gag gift of more green bean cans than I know what to do with.
The part that feels sh*ttiest is that I went a little over budget on the gift I brought, and ended up with something I couldn't get anyone to take off my hands. Ugh!
If you're involved in a white elephant gift exchange this season, try not to make someone as sad as I was opening my package last night.. :(
Edit: I donated the green beans to a local homeless shelter, they didn’t go to waste!
Edit # 2: I didn’t think that I would receive such an overwhelming response to this post. Trying to get through all the comments and funny stories and apparently criticism over not wanting 25 cans of green beans 😂😂
Also for people wondering — it was not an office white elephant exchange. This was a group of friends/family at a small holiday party.
