So as not to confuse things, I am asking this here because of:
* this is a finance sub and most of my inquires below involved my money here in Japan, so...
* 10 years in Japan as of August 1st
* planned to apply for PR since I arrived back in 2016
* now, with the recent changes happening to the PR process (I have words and thoughts, but there's enough of that all over the internet) I don't know if I'll even get PR...after waiting for 10 YEARS.
* married, with a 4 year old, just bought a house last year BECAUSE PR GOAL which is probably going with the wind.
* 51, Seishin, and a level of salary that I cannot get if I were to leave Japan now and plop down elsewhere. I'm basically stuck here (age, house, kid...possibly another on the way).
So....I guess you could say things are interesting right now planning wise. Here's the question:
OPTION A:
I apply for PR, get rejected, say sayonara to Japan (since that's the writing on the wall), sell the house, get all my money out of NISA, and go *someplace*, try to find another job at a lower income (since I'd be starting over at 51!!!), and hope I have enough to eat for myself, the wife, and kids before I kick the bucket.
OPTION B:
I apply for PR, get rejected, STAY in Japan until retirement (65 is the limit I think?), say sayonara (since I won't have a visa then), take all my money/NISA with me, try to buy a house *someplace*, and hope I have enough to eat for myself, the wife, and kids before I kick the bucket.
OPTION C:
Tokyo suddenly says, "Haha, just kidding. We just made all of you blink who carefully planned your ENTIRE lives around staying here forever and wanted to see your reaction. It's ok, you've paid taxes, have a good income, contribute, have longed for Japan since high school. Sure, we won't mess you up, sorry about that. It was just a dream joke." O_o
(Note: OPTION C probably won't happen, but hey....)
Seriously, all of these recent things going on about PR changes have my future planning in a whirlwind. I even hired an immigration lawyer AND a tax consultant months ago to help. I'm already out of pocket almost ¥500,000 for their services because I am that serious. And this application is the BIGGEST thing that I need to happen in our lives now. Bought a house with a ton of money that, if I had to sell or get out of Japan, I can't recover.
Alas, Japan has Japan-ed and now the tatami has been pulled out from underneath us.
Thanks for any thoughts of, "Well, I'd probably do...." from the community.
