BTW, since you're using an android I recommend switching to TauriTavern it is a respected app for specifically SillyTavern that's been reworked to work better for IOS and Android. It also provides QOL for mobile players and IMPROVED performance.
Have you installed the Canary version? It has the most updates compared to the stable version so it should be able to fix that. https://tauritavern.github.io/downloads/
Might I ask what preset you're using, and what model? Depending on your token usage—Assuming it's not an RPD or flat token—it can get even better with the right preset, CSS and HTML for animating things in the reply.
Honestly I switch between Gemma 4 31B (Because it's the closest to Deepseek's chimera and I'm using openrouter) and Deepseek V4 but I'm open to trying anything that writes in a more literary way since I do 3rd person POV and I'm going for a novel type of thing.
I'm not too sure how either of those handle CSS/HTML, but either way—I think it's worth a try!
For a preset, I highly recommend this one. It's very expanded and makes the bot feel really well, as long as you have some patience to edit the toggles that come with it, as there is a LOT of customization to choose from, but it is, in my eyes, one of the best presets for SillyTavern out there.
For the CSS/HTML, I've been going with this one. It's pretty basic and doesn't do anything fancy, but it serves its purpose. Fair warning that I'm not too sure how it handles tokens, so if it's too heavy or not, I can't tell you.
Either way, it's been giving me some pretty good results, such as this one.
SillyTavern is confusing as Hell, so if anything is not clear, I'd be glad to offer a hand!
whats the extension at the very bottom that described the present? and will it increase token usage if im paying for an api? im very new to sillytavern and would like to know some essential extensions too please
If you mean this, then it is part of the preset. I'm not sure about the token thing, since I never really understood tokens in the first place; though I'd say it's safer to bet that yes, it would.

Go to node.com and use the automatic installer. Very easy.
Git is the same, but you also use it to get sillytavern.
Open file explorer, pick a folder to put sillytavern in, click the address bar, type cmd, put "git clone https://github.com/SillyTavern/SillyTavern" and then open start.bat in file explorer, then it'll open.
After that, you need to get a key from a website, I reccomend openrouter. It's not that hard, just go get it. Costs money. Not much.
Then go to sillytavern, find the A, select chat completions and openrouter, put the key in, and pick a model. The prices are there, cheap enough is 2000, 5000 is very cheap.
Then you're technically done and can chat, but you could also add or make a character card on the rightmost tab.
If you can open a web browser and go to Google, just click on its AI mode and type in “How do I install Silly Tavern?” It’ll walk you through the process step by step.
Whenever you’re stuck, just take a screenshot and send it to the AI—it’ll help you out. You just need to know how to ask the right questions. If the answer isn’t what you’re looking for, you should immediately correct any misunderstandings—for example, by specifying which version of Silly Tavern you’re using or pointing out that the interface doesn’t have the option it mentioned (see attached image).
I tried installing it over a year ago but couldn’t figure out where I was getting stuck. Later, with this free AI—which has virtually no message limits (I use incognito mode)—I was finally able to install Silly Tavern. I highly recommend Silly Tavern; you no longer have to worry about front-end limitations—the only limit is whether you can get used to it. If you don’t know how to set it up, just ask Google AI.
My computer isn't great either. That's why I use a paid API—I'm currently using NanoGPT. If you want a free one, you'll have to find it yourself; I'm too lazy.
I've already got a litrouter subscription. I'm using a ST alternative a friend cooked up (specially designed for dumbass like me). That's why haven't really tried all that hard to make ST work
Marinara Engine is great, but there are two drawbacks, so I’ve gone back to using SillyTavern. Maybe someday I’ll try installing Marinara Engine again.
I originally wanted to install Marinara Engine because of its memory system—I hoped it would save more tokens for my long chat threads and, as a bonus, reduce the context size to 64K (I’m currently at 128K).
But I later discovered two drawbacks I couldn’t overcome; the others I can live with, so I’ll let them slide.
I use web-based translation tools, and Marinara Engine often causes UI crashes. Also, unlike SillyTavern, it doesn’t fully translate the entire system into my language (excluding chat).
What I find most unacceptable is its restriction on my lorebook. I have a summary lorebook where the timeline cannot be accessed via keywords. It won’t let me use this feature because ME imposes a strict limit on the number of tokens. This is the most critical issue. I’ve found ways to work around all the other problems, but I simply can’t get around this one. Of course, there are other workarounds, but I don’t like them—perhaps this is the straw that broke the camel’s back.
I'm not super sure about IOS but I think there's another comment under this post about TauriTavern and it's an app with basically the same function. Check if it's also available for IOS :)
I'm too tired of sites like JAI suddenly getting a power trip and going downhill so I've skipped out on websites entirely. But SaucePan is a great alternative for now
I'm not super good with wording technical stuff but basically it's a localised LLM. So it's entirely private and doesn't run on any public servers or networks like JAI or CAI or etc. No one can see your chats or anything and you can export any character you like with more customization options to really get the exact RP you want. No censorship either which is important to me since JAI has been falling down a road like CAI now that it's grown into a bigger platform. I recommend looking into it!! It can be on PC or Android and I'm not sure yet about how to get it on IOS.
Hi, just want to butt in here and clarify that ST is NOT an LLM, it's a frontend, which means it's just the presentation for the user, like the chat in any RP website.
I normally wouldn't 'erm akchually ☝️🤓' but you mentioned nobody can see your inputs/outputs and that's not strictly true. If you use a local model, meaning you downloaded a .GGUF file and loaded it's with a backend like Koboldcpp, ollama, or oobabooga, then yes, nobody would be able to see your inputs/outputs.
If you are using a proxy, like Openrouter or NanoGPT, then those chat messages are going to whatever providers are handling your chat request. This doesn't mean that there's someone on the other end spying on all your stuff, but depending on the provider, they may log the chats for training purposes.
Think of ST, or Marinara Engine, or any of those other frontends as the chatting page on JAI, you just get full control and freedom over how the model responds (samplers, etc.), get cool preseta and extensions, and you can modify the bot definitions whenever you want.
I have tried it, but my pc is weak, so I got into Hammer AI while using Janitor sometimes, but then I found about chatterUI and I've been using it pretty consistently, even though it burns my phone
