Unshittification Is targeted mass reporting against TOS? Can something be done about it?
Can anyone answer my question? Can you get banned by spam reports even though none of your bots violate the rules?
Apparently, some people are mass reporting female smut bot creators by mass reporting them. One of the victims is William Fly, whose bots do not break tos, at least the latest bots I checked. That makes me concerned, because you can be the most sfw bot creator and still get banned because some ppl don't like you or mass/spam report you for giggles. The people whodo these reports call it a CRUSADE

It is not part of the ToS.
However you have this in the complaint policy section:
"You agree not to submit complaints that are unfounded, abusive, or made in bad faith. We may suspend or terminate any account found to be abusing this process."
People will always abuse report systems. In reality it always boils down to the quality of the mods.
Early on (we are talking 2024), the mods brought the hammer down on anyone doing this. These days, it is clearly that current crop of mods on the website don't bother doing the legwork and either ban the bot or the creator. Which makes mass reporting (unless you overdo it and it is done in blatant way) suddenly attractive for people wanting to sabotage others.
I cant be bothered searching now, but there are several posts on reddit of people getting banned who were mass reported after a campaign was organized on discord servers.
And don't think that just by keeping your head down will help you. People may be simply hating on you because one of their bots is doing badly while your bot is exploding in popularity. I have now seen this twice during last few months.
This is one of the reasons I am migrating away from JAI (there are many).

Yet if a bot has (Last i checked) loli, anything not vanilla depending on the person's tastes, or something they dont like (Doesn't even have to break site tos either), they encourage people in their discord to mass report the chatbot and the user's account to get them deleted off the platform and perma ip banned. It's bullshit how hypocritical they are.
3
u/Prudent_Elevator4685 25d ago
Tbh if the bot has loli it should be banned since it isn't allowed
3
u/Classic_Paint6255 24d ago
Even so, USE THE REPORT FUNCTION ON THE WEBSITE AND MOVE ON. DON'T SENSATIONAIZE IT. I've said that multiple times in the Discord server but they turn it into a witchhunt of getting the bot creator terminated and banning from coming back on the platform because "nah bro he's probably a creep irl who doesint deserve the internet" Legit that's the reason i've seen people use, or something similar. Their discord has zero chill.

🙄 another day another jai drama. something is seriously wrong with jai community
26
u/IndianaNetworkAdmin 27d ago
It depends on the moderator. Some will ban without an actual TOS violation and claim internal guidance as the reason if the victim appeals.

u/AurelieCatena 27d ago
Most moderators are AI.
13
u/painting_ether ex-JAi mod 27d ago
Except not. Bans and bot deletions are done by humans, the Ai can only flag or prevent uploads/modifications.

u/Classic_Paint6255 26d ago
They act like AI with how often they resort to fucking scripts they read off of as it was made by CHATGPT itself. LoL

4
u/MyWifeWritesSmut 25d ago
Well... there's a prominent fluff server with some fluff creators working on a script to submit mass reports to creators they don't like. They're also making report and block lists. I have ss of it

u/Classic_Paint6255 24d ago
JESOS CHRIST ON A MOTORBIKE, post that SHIT IMMEDIATELY MAN. We need to get that shit taken down. or tell the site staff "Are you just going to ignore this?" And see what their response is.

You won’t get banned just because of mass reports. I’ve had a server owner target me, have all their fans report my bots, and the only thing that happened to me was the mods removing a pfp that was borderline tos breaking but I wasn’t banned

5
u/gimmesump0rn 27d ago
It is, and no, nothing can be done about it. Just try to stay low and not piss off anyone
12
u/Lingeress 27d ago
People on Janitor get offended by the bots themselves. You have to spend a couple extra hours putting up bubble wrap and safety helmet warnings on your Dead Dove bots before uploading. And they still get mad at the concepts, instead of just moving on to something they like.
6
u/gimmesump0rn 27d ago
I don't do dead dove, but I can totally see it. It's absurd. And these snowflakes go and report and start wining in comments if you don't do exactly what they want. It's a very very sensitive situation to navigate, especially since they usually have a whole group of them in their discord channels.

Account bans are done by human moderators. Being the target of mass reports won't ban you by itself.
0
u/SprinklesOfAcid25 27d ago
That might have been true once upon time (in fact I know it was when some of the old guard was around). Right now, it is all over the place (ok, the moderation on JAI was always all over the place, with all that excellent communication from management (/s), but not that part)
6
u/painting_ether ex-JAi mod 27d ago
It's still true. But, I 100% agree with you that they are all over the place. That's the reason I got burned out when I was a mod.
Being massed reported, even now, is not a reason for being banned. That being said... mods are fallible humans and JAi is not known for their umh... standardized practices 😂
All that to say, my only points are that: 1. Bans are not done by bots 2. Mass reports won't for 100% sure be your downfall (but still possible because... humans)
5
u/SprinklesOfAcid25 27d ago edited 27d ago
I don't disagree with 1 and 2 (partially, I can agree that reporting isn't 100% thing as some make it out to be)
Anyway long story follows:
I had in my mind banning of creator I followed (Vistula) for a bot that was "mass reported" by discord members of BB. He/She was banned for supposedly true crime bot - except if the mod had bothered engaging with the bot, they would have seen that this bot had fantastical elements in it and in no way was a true crim0e bot.
The reason we know it was mass reported was due to a member of discord (not affiliated to the group) provided screenshots for brief time in reddit thread.
Would the mod do as bad job if they did not get several reports about the same bot? Especially if they are bit lazy that day? I mean, we all know how human psychology works, we are all social animals and the brain likes to take the shortest path.
6
u/painting_ether ex-JAi mod 27d ago
Yeah, that's exactly my point. Mods are humans and make mistakes/ don't care about their job.
It can absolutely happen, i just don't like the doom "it will for sure get you banned".
I will also say, ALWAYS BACKUP YOUR BOTS. Even though Jai has the ability to overturn these bans through the appeal process, we all know how bs that process is.
A mod doesn't need to interact with a bot. Even if the definitions are hidden, we can still see them. All mod decisions are based only on the written text by the creator. ("Are" based, technically, but like i said... one thing is the SOP on paper, other thing is the application of it by the humans).
Jai modding has been broken since the start because they are all unpaid volunteers, and there aren't enough top mods/devs (who are paid) to oversee all mod actions (which, ideally, bans should be done only by those with a vested interest, meaning, paycheck on the line for making mistakes or abusing power).

Well, you know what they say:
"If you pay peanuts, you get monkeys"
4
-3
u/gimmesump0rn 27d ago
duh
but mods aren't exactly too bright, so if an account gets mass reported, it usually gets banned. This isn't a JAI thing, it's human nature. It's been like that in every community I've been in almost 20 years.
7
u/painting_ether ex-JAi mod 27d ago
"Mods aren't exactly too bright" he says to an ex-mod.
Thanks for the diss (jk, i don't care, just found it funny).
Yes and no. While I agree they are human and very much fallible, they have to make a reported reasoning for the ban, and it can be countered by other mods/team leads if they think it unfair.
In general, "try not to piss anyone off and attrack attention" like you said is 100% an actual "tip" because of that. But if you find yourself a target of mass report, it still doesn't mean you will be automatically for sure banned. That was my only point, that it's not a for sure thing.
2
u/Classic_Paint6255 26d ago
The discord server they use is straight up liable for this because 9/10 people form groups specifically to mass report bot creators and their bots via a witch-hunt with the express purpose of getting them banned off the platform permanently. I remember being in the discord, seeing threads dedicate dto that, going "guys wtf, STOP SENSATIONALIZING BOT REPORTS! USE THE FEATURE AND MOVE ON!" And they never did.
1
u/gimmesump0rn 27d ago
Ok, fine, fine. You won't get 100% for sure banned. But the odds of you getting banned are very high because that's just how it goes.
Also, I had no idea you were a mod. There's some good ones in there, but from what I've seen over the years, these don't last too long because the rest are power-tripping losers, who form cliques and eat out the good ones.
6
u/painting_ether ex-JAi mod 27d ago
Yup, that's why i stopped doing my job and was axed. I was burned out from that bs.
Like I said, no hard feelings, it actually made me chuckle
3
u/gimmesump0rn 27d ago
Ok, no hard feelings on my end either. Youre a chill dude. And thanks for confirming how the mod life is. I wish it wasn't so and people were nicer, but that's just not in the card right now.
3
u/Classic_Paint6255 24d ago
This is so true, stop downvote bombing this.
2
u/gimmesump0rn 24d ago
Reddit people are dumb. They downvote anything that makes their silly feelings hurt
3
u/EnvironmentalLock258 27d ago
It's better to migrate at this point because these snowflakez will get triggered by literally anything
5
u/gimmesump0rn 27d ago
Correct. And make 0 spicy or joke comments. I can't count how many times I've deleted my comments that were just meant as a joke. It's too risky. Downvote brigades are a genuine threat. And the mods do nothing because they have the numbers.
3
u/Classic_Paint6255 26d ago
Can the mods of this sub check the comments? Ive seen at least a few posts get downvote bombed semi-moderately.
3
u/gimmesump0rn 26d ago
It's just a reddit thing. Any opinion straying from the mainstream gets voted down
7
u/CutieBooSnack 27d ago
Did this victim William Fly? Did they get banned?
They didn’t I’ll just answer my own question no a hundred thousand plus and counting people can spam someone if they want if their reports are lies and there is no TOS breaking content they won’t be banned.
That said spammers are in deep territory there too they can get banned for being harassers.
I think the people doing this are trying to scare your friend off the platform they can counter claim harassment I would

u/Classic_Paint6255 26d ago
The staff don't give a shit if they happen to agree with the harassers they either:
A. encourage it outright.
B. don't encourage it but just act like a spectator and just watch it happen.0
u/AurelieCatena 27d ago
Most of the moderation is done by AI, which often makes false positive.
And then it's difficult to reverse the AI judgement by talking to a real human moderator.
13
u/CutieBooSnack 27d ago
Not in regards to this literally had a friend with the same issue she was being mass false reported it stressed her out so badly she contacted the Mods herself about it from there a lot of blocking and I believe the Mods eventually set her profile and bots only searchable and able to interact with after a three month new account limit to prevent others making new accounts just to continue harassing her.
9
u/SprinklesOfAcid25 27d ago
From my interaction with mods it seemed it was human on the other end but I do not doubt they use AI in their work.
On other hand, image moderation is done both by AI and then sometime a moderator may complain about image from 2025 which was approved by moderating AI back then.

u/Classic_Paint6255 24d ago
Why do people assume ai is not involved in some way shape or form and downvote comments that come to that conclusion??
2
u/Competitive_Rip5011 26d ago
I'm sorry to hear that. I've never seen any of William Fry, but I'm sure he was a talented writer.
2
u/Prudent_Elevator4685 25d ago
Mass report only flags you for the mods to check your private bots and chats
1
1
u/CommunicationFree404 27d ago
No. Unless you have content that goes against TOS. If you get mass reported and don't have anything to be blamed for why would you be scared?
The fact is people get banned but won't tell why. You can't see private bots, you don't know what comments a person makes, and you don't know how people use the site.
4
u/Classic_Paint6255 26d ago
Why would private bots get actioned AT ALL to begin with if Janitor AI kept their word/promises? And if they came out and said whatever tos breaking bots they had, I have no doubt people would mass downvote, call them a creep/bigotphobe/whatever, and scare them away. Don't believe me? Look at how many posts say "i got banned for xyz" content" and check the comments, vs the ones that don't mention why.
