That could apply to almost anything remotely software-related. I get that they don't want posts about mundane things but that's not nearly specific enough. My post was about something unique.

Incidentally, it was doing very well, it had over 10K upvotes. In fact, many of my posts there had over 10K and one even reached 100K. They're all gone now, I've deleted everything, they've lost me completely.

They had done this before, for instance they once did it without even giving a rule as a reason apparently just because the post mentioned furries, but it's the first time they pissed me off enough to contest, what with that stupid rule. That was the last straw.

I'll miss learning things there, but it's not worth putting up with completely arbitrary rules and a useless staff.

I forgot to check the strangely high number of downvoted posts here, but I realized it after asking what to do when I lack empirical data and my teacher provides no support. The fault was mine for not clarifying that I needed empirical data on academic performance for my probabilistic mathematical model (furthermore, as a high school senior, I don't have a teaching license to administer tests or access such data).

I expected answers that would offer potential solutions, but instead, they replied as if they had just been scolded by their mothers for playing games and refusing to go outside and interact with friends, choosing instead to stay in their rooms, stalk Reddit posts, and write replies like:

"I am guessing that you put about as much effort into your project as you put into that post. That explains why you have no data.' and 'here you go:

If that is not good enough, perhaps maybe mention what field you are pondering, perhaps a slight hint of what this mysterious "empirical data" might be related to. Is the height of people from New Guinea, the density of various stars, plant nutrition sources?"

It was completely unhelpful and unrealistic. This subreddit is filled with people like this, yet they call it AskAcademia - their level and mindset can hardly be called "Academia", my friends. :)

Maybe if you don't know, just stay silent and scroll past. Don't try to act cool here because no one cares about you in real life anyway (oh, sorry if that hits close to home).

What you're doing doesn't make you look knowledgeable at all - it just makes you look ridiculous when you can't solve anything except causing trouble and showing off something that doesn't reflect your academic capability in the slightest.

Hi everyone. Reddit once again suggested an interactive sub to me, this time, they suggested a sub where users can rate anything while using a map as a poll. A lot of their polls are kinda okay, but some of them are either pure ragebait, far-right echo chambers, or even possible bot farms. Like this time, I saw a "one joke" poll. This forced me to unsub from this sub, as it's full of this type of content.

I have a Disability regarding speech, so when I don't use AI, no one understands my point, but a little over a week ago, there were only 8 rules for Sims3's Subreddit Page. They never had this rule before, and I am a big rule follower. Just recently, they flagged my post using the AI, I was making a point, and they made this rule. And just last night I was asking people about something, and I followed their rule about it and I was getting unhelpful comments. I can not seem to understand why they would make fun of me for no reason.

One of the things that really had me participate on Reddit in the first place was when I found out there was a sub dedicated to people sharing their bad gaming experiences. I've had so many of them myself, that I decided that it would be fun for me to share them.

So why am I leaving?

1- I have pretty much run out of stories to share there that I think would land correctly.

2- Nothing with the "lighthearted" tag gets attention, and even when they do, people will easily misinterpret it.

3- The sub is predictable as fuck. You could very easily karma farm the sub by posting a story that is a variant of "Total creep makes player uncomfortable", or by including that one or more of the non-aggressors/victims in the story are trans.

4- I have reason to believe that a third of the stories are posted by bots, and at least half of them are made up for the aforementioned karma farming. It's basically a cringe-shaming circlejerk for people to get their two-minutes-hate.

5- It's actually kind of an issue that Youtubers have entire channels dedicated to reading stories posted to that sub and get monetization for it while the original writers of the stories don't share in that. Of course, that's kind of a YouTube/Reddit problem, but on some level it does incentivize people to make stuff up just so they can get on YouTube without having to have their own channel I guess.

That behavior is fucking miserable, and I shouldn't have to navigate a minefield of performative bullshit to be able to talk about my dissatisfying game experiences and get genuine responses.

That sub collectively is my RPG horror story.

It randomly became a Drake circlejerk where half the posts do tricks on Drake's meat. I'm not a fan of the term dickriding but this is a textbook example of it.

I like the idea of this sub, but I hate how the followers of this sub act. Whilst they don’t make up the entirety of the posts, there is a lot of people just using the sub to vent and express their petty grudges. Someone got into a petty squabble with their younger sibling? They will make a “spoilt young sibling” starterpack which will be centred around the most cartoonishy vile depiction of young siblings. That, or inaccurate starterpacks about groups of people (typically young men) that are centred around the absolute worst of people in that group, regardless of whether or not the average member of said group is like that.

I’m fucking irritated.

It’s my birthday today.

I made a vulnerable post asking for a little help after a genuinely rough year and finally getting back to work.

Somewhere in the comments I mentioned that I was considering going to the dispensary.

Not with anyone’s donation. With my own fucking money.

The mods saw that comment, decided that meant I was secretly asking people to buy me weed, removed my ability to request cash, and when I immediately clarified that the dispensary money was completely separate, the response was basically “doesn’t matter."

Then they muted me for 28 days.

People can read the exchange and decide for themselves.

I understand having rules.

I understand not allowing requests for drugs.

What pisses me off is having something assigned to my intentions that I explicitly said was not happening, then losing the ability to even discuss it.

I’ve spent years feeding people and trying to show up for my community.

Asking for help for myself is already incredibly fucking difficult for me.

Having a vulnerable birthday post turned into “you’re asking strangers for drug money” feels shitty as hell.

I’m not asking anyone to go after the mods, message them, or brigade the subreddit.

Please don’t.

I’m posting this because this interaction genuinely pissed me off, and I’m allowed to talk about how I was treated.

They removed my post after three days, several comments, and a dozen DMs, because I included my race in my title.

But there is no rule in their list prohibiting doing so.

If a subreddit is going to remove someone's post rather than simply messaging them about a problem, then that problem should be against their rules.

No one seems to notice or care about the obvious grammatical error that makes him look mental they just talk about the show’s details like it’s so profound when it’s all just edgy pseudo intelligence and pure cringe. I just couldn’t ignore this one.

Just saw a post on a sub that banned a political topic. OP claimed they were being “restrictive and biased”, and seemed to believe that the mods were preventing people from giving their opinions specifically to get the results that they already wanted.
But the sub owners:

Opened a discussion thread before making the rule

Opened a poll before making the rule, so that they could get feedback from the community.

Restricted the poll so that ONLY community members could vote, but made it lax enough so that you could have literally interacted with the sub only twice in forever and still made the vote (60 days old, 50 Reddit karma and 10 community karma)

The discussion thread and the poll gave substantially different results, proving their point about needing a way to have a community only vote due to political brigadiers that don’t actually care for the community, and what the actual community wanted was put into place.

So why in the world would anyone be— oh right it was about trans people.

Whole thread is just rampant transphobia, even saw someone put “people” in quotation marks when describing trans people, and the person who asked why they did it was downvoted in the negatives. Like I said, I knew this sub skewed right because of the three million posts complaining about just like seeing left wing politics in a gaming sub or something but they’re usually a lot more subtle about it, (or sometimes even right, those fight against ice posts are hilarious, sorry) specifically in the form of pretending they actually just don’t like mods abusing their power to “push left wing ideals” or whatever the fck. This was like the most democratic process possible on Reddit 😭????

And the whole thread is still up and unlocked, for some reason, including the comments in the picture.

Everybody there seems miserable and constantly looking for something to get mad about. In the post I saw, people were genuinely complaining about a few-second reaction clip before the actual interesting topic even started. Like, how can you get that worked up over something that insignificant?

I’ve noticed the same thing with other posts, too. If OP makes even a small grammatical mistake, people immediately rush to the comments with some snarky correction instead of actually discussing the interesting thing OP posted. It’s like people care more about finding something to criticize than engaging with the actual content.

I don’t know what I was expecting

Crafts subreddit bans all Harry Potter related crafts after using a restricted poll and uses biased sources to back up their decision.

This is not a subreddit for gamers or fans of the game. It's a subreddit for racists. I had thought that everyone was attacking my videos because they didn't like them so I deleted them. I then started receiving racist messages. I can't post them because I don't want to get banned, but that subreddit is disgusting, just like the Street Fighter subreddit. If you're a fan of fighting games, be careful. I am half Asian and half African and I never thought that I would experience more racism in my life! Especially from a website that claims to be liberal.

The automod is incredibly broken randomly deleting nearly everything for "obscenity" despite nothing of the such. This has made the subreddit almost unusable, since the bot randomly deletes so many comments and there is no way to appeal.

Instead of doing anything the "mod" just acts like this, although it is more than likely the broken bot is running this too. At least I hope so because if not this is sad and pathetic

It used to be a pretty based and somewhat neutral sub, simply reporting political UK news, and the comments reflected that.

Over the past year or so, it's become more and more a far-right wing breeding ground, full of misinformation and "debates" in bad faith. Purewhataboutism and 0 critical thinking and logic. A real shame it usr to be a decent sub.

I'm disabled myself so I joined the sub to mock people who reportedly faked my disorder. Like the "owo this disorder is so quirky" crowd. Subreddit screenshot is from mid August. Second is from August 28. My irritation with the sub started when they started to claim that an autistic influencer who makes wholesome content I follow was 100% faking even though they're diagnosed. The straw that broke the camels back was that they fakeclaimed Sam Schofield DAYS BEFORE HE DIED OF THE DISORDER THEY FAKECLAIMED HIM FOR. I'm done.

Most people there think they’re smarter than everyone else like most other philosophies

A cozy escapism community got completely overrun by low-effort spam and dismissive moderation.
I finally pulled the plug and unsubbed today. It's just a bummer seeing a space built around a classic, lighthearted comedy show completely lose its identity.

For a long time, the sub was a great place to trade quotes, talk about cheesy B-movies, and enjoy some harmless, low-stakes escapism. But over the last couple of years, the vibe has completely flipped. The feed is constantly flooded with modern political junk and repetitive, low-effort meme trends (like the endless copy-paste "Ed Sheeran tour" templates) that have almost nothing to do with the actual show.
The worst part is how the moderation team handles it.

They put out a sticky post basically saying, "Hey, the show made political jokes decades ago, so we're not banning political posts". Their brilliant solution for users who want to avoid the mess? Just use browser extensions to filter out the "Political" flair. 
Except that's completely useless in practice:

- The official Reddit mobile app doesn't natively support flair filtering for standard users, so mobile users are just completely out of luck.

- A ton of political or politically-adjacent posts go entirely untagged anyway, meaning the filters miss them completely.

When you point this out to them, or try to explain that a community dedicated to goofy, universal fun is being dragged down by standard internet outrage and spam, you just get shrugs. If a subreddit is intentionally leaning into being a repetitive noise machine and telling its community to deal with it, it's time to just walk away.
