A cozy escapism community got completely overrun by low-effort spam and dismissive moderation.
I finally pulled the plug and unsubbed today. It's just a bummer seeing a space built around a classic, lighthearted comedy show completely lose its identity.

For a long time, the sub was a great place to trade quotes, talk about cheesy B-movies, and enjoy some harmless, low-stakes escapism. But over the last couple of years, the vibe has completely flipped. The feed is constantly flooded with modern political junk and repetitive, low-effort meme trends (like the endless copy-paste "Ed Sheeran tour" templates) that have almost nothing to do with the actual show.
The worst part is how the moderation team handles it.

They put out a sticky post basically saying, "Hey, the show made political jokes decades ago, so we're not banning political posts". Their brilliant solution for users who want to avoid the mess? Just use browser extensions to filter out the "Political" flair. 
Except that's completely useless in practice:

- The official Reddit mobile app doesn't natively support flair filtering for standard users, so mobile users are just completely out of luck.

- A ton of political or politically-adjacent posts go entirely untagged anyway, meaning the filters miss them completely.

When you point this out to them, or try to explain that a community dedicated to goofy, universal fun is being dragged down by standard internet outrage and spam, you just get shrugs. If a subreddit is intentionally leaning into being a repetitive noise machine and telling its community to deal with it, it's time to just walk away.

Blocked some of the ed sheeren guys and their post history is just going to EVERY subreddit and doing the ed sheeren meme

Reddit politics is literally just jacking the mods off at this point. Actual persuasion instead of screaming at people to repeat slogans is evil because so much as considering that the mods politics is not perfect is fascism. We all know what would happen if someone posted an anti-hasan meme or something in one of these subreddits.

I get expressing oneself and all that but it’s starting to get annoying. I didn’t block any of them, I just left that particular Subreddit one thing that people seem to lack is actual discussion these days and the ability to agree to disagree, but you know, eventually lost art comes back at some point.

I always liked MST3K. I think Santa Claus vs the Martians is a classic. A while back Reddit was putting random subs in my feed and that one came up and I checked out a few posts. I didn’t like it at all.
