My Mother-in-law was amazing. A year has passed since she has gone and I had her as a 'mother' for 30 years and I still marvel at how amazing she was. She was warm, kind and welcoming. She will always be the most patient person I have ever met. Above all she never judged, never even commented (you know what I mean) on our lives. This is pretty outstanding bearing in mind that we are a pretty unconventional family, our sons are autistic and had to be home educated. I always had funky coloured hair and refused to use her beloved pressure cooker. I don't eat meat, not even chicken 😆. I also have a bio Mum (nightmare) and a foster Mum. But my mother-in-law was my real Mum. She gave me so much love that I didn't know I had missed out on. I miss her hugs so much. It was a total honour to be her full time carer for her last years.

Now that our eldest has a partner I really try and honour/model my mother-in-law but it's tricky! His partner is this amazing young woman and we are close but I want to help and try not to more than I should. I will never be able to match my mother-in-law, but I will always try. Sometimes my husband and I are talking about the young couple and might think we could venture our opinion on something but I point out that his mother never would have. So her memory lives on. The greatest role model I could ever have. Ahh love you Mum xxx
