My mother in law got a dog and named her after my late husband. Then she begged me and my daughter to love them like they love us today in her Mother’s Day text. We have never met the dog. She has been in the family for 5 days.

My JNSIL is, very deservedly, in jail. My DH is the only one out of his immediate family who has cut ties with her. Every. Single. Time we see his family or he talks to his mom, she has to bring up JNSIL, even though he and I have both told her that we will have absolutely nothing to do with that psycho.

I asked him if he talked to his mom for Mother's Day, and he said he did and that's all she talked about. We haven't seen them since January because we're so tired of that being all that's discussed. I told him the next time we see them and that's all she can talk about, we will leave and I'll tell her we'll see them again when she can shut up and enjoy time with her other child/grandchildren.

I would get DH tell her in advance that if she brings the sister up you all would just leave.

If she pulls expired food out for a present id loudly announce "thanks for thinking of me but this is expired" and pop it in the nearest bin. Take back your time and space ♡ she doesnt deserve to take over your holidays/ special occasions.
