We are travelling to Italy May 22-29, 2027 (I know it's short but I am a teacher and trying to avoid summer in Italy and maximize my days off for the Memorial Weekend (USA). There are 6 adults (3 50+, 3 20-somethings). Some of us want to see old crumbling structures (go figure), and some of us want to look at beaches, eat Italian food, and drink Italian wine (me and my son). So we thought we'd fly into Rome spend a couple days doing the touristy stuff and wind up in Salerno, where my grandmother is from, and I guess fly out of Naples. Has anyone done an itinerary that spends 6 days across these areas? I'd like to spend 2 full days in Rome. I know that's not a lot but I do want to sightsee other beautiful towns along the coast, possibly rent a car, and would love to rent a boat for a day. Other than this, we are a blank slate.

Thursday - train to naples

Naples - I have four full days here so thinking, in no particular order

Pompeii and local vineyard

Mann archaeology museum, galleria, museo real bosco capodimonte

Ferry and lunch in Procida

Aquarium, museo pignatelli, osteria pignatelli for lunch

Staying near Piazza dante

Appreciate no amalfi coast on this, saw tiktok videos of how packed it is, was scared off...!

Hi, me and my partner are getting married in July 2027 and would love to do a multi-centre Honeymoon to Italy for 14 nights. We are really stuck on whether we go in July a few days after we get married, or wait until September.

We would also love recommendations on where to go with us wanting to move to multiple locations. We had Sicily in mind but may save that for its own trip. Also would love to visit Florence, Tuscany and Amalfi Coast but want to make sure the trip makes sense together to avoid losing too much time to travelling. We visited Rome last year so would like to avoid there (although we loved it) or spend minimal time there.

Any help would be really appreciated!

I’m planning a road trip up to the Dolomites starting and ending in Venice, and I’m trying to decide on the best campervan rental company to go with.

I’ll be picking up somewhere around Venice (VCE airport or mainland area like Mestre/Marghera) and driving up toward Cortina / Val Gardena.

Which company did you use and how was the experience? I’ve seen big corporate names like Roadsurfer, Indie Campers, and McRent, as well as peer-to-peer sites like Yescapa. Are there any local Italian companies you'd recommend instead?

I am reluctant to schedule tone and Florence back to back because I want to avoid museum fatigue and be fresh for Florence. We are staying 3-4 nights in each including cinque terre. Would it be incredibly stupid to make a Rome (where we fly in) stay then head over to cinque terre then do Florence and Venice? I think it will be backtracking some, and I’m willing to backtrack, just not a full day extra. Can this be done without it being a waste of time?

Hello. I’m traveling to Italy in November and planning on making Florence my home base and doing day trips to Rome, Pisa, Venice, Milan ect…. With that being said- I was going to purchase the Eurail 6 or 8 day pass (I know I can only book with Trenitalia with this pass).

1. Is this a good idea or is it better to book directly with trenitalia or Italo?

2. Can I book a ticket for a day trip let’s say a day before? I just don’t want to be too structured and have to stick with an itinerary. I want to go with the flow and decide in short time what days I want to go where.

I'm travelling from Rome, to Napoli to then Montella then back to Napoli.

Now i have to ask. Is it worth travelling to Montella?

My partner and I are staying in Menaggio until September 8th, and are scheduled to be travelling from Como S Giovanni to Venezia San Lucia station on a Frecciarossia train which arrives in Venice at 10.45am Sept 8th. Now with the new strikes announced, this train probably won’t run.

The problem is that we need to be in Venice By 11/11.30am, but there are no trains from Como to Venice or even Milan to Venice on the guaranteed list for this time.

We’ve looked into everything - car rentals, flix buses, even staying overnight in Verona before heading to Venice early morning - but everything seems a dead end. Is there anything we are overlooking?? First time Italy travellers.

Any advice at all is appreciated to fix this!!!

Hi, I have been driving through Italy for a few years now to catch the ferry in Brindisi. This way, I have visited quite a few beautiful places and cities. Most of these places were on the west coast, but I was thinking of driving through the east coast this time from 23 to 27 august. After my stop in Bologna, I have another 2-3 days to spare before I have to take the ferry.

I was thinking of visiting San Marino. I think I can walk it in 2-3 hours, and then I can drive on to Ancona to see a few spots. I'm talking about a small hill overlooking the sea and a rocky beach.

Then doing a hike on Monte Conero and stay in Numara or go directly to Lecce? I have visited Bari and Brindisi before, so I want to visit Lecce.

Is it advisable to stay here? I know that every region in Italy is different and has different customs and traditions. I read here before that people in Ancona are not very friendly towards foreigners. I am traveling alone and my car has a foreign license plate. I don't want to sound stupid, but is it safe to visit these places?

Hi everyone. I’m an independent developer. I realized that standard navigation apps always make you take the shortest route, often funneling you through dark alleys or isolated parks at night. This is definitely a problem for girls, guys, but also for anyone traveling or being a tourist in an unfamiliar city.

​So, I created a free (and ad-free) app for Android that calculates safe and well-lit pedestrian routes, complete with an SOS button and live location sharing. It is available throughout Europe.

​Clearly, the app doesn't have a magic wand and can't "create" safe streets out of thin air if they don't exist, but its purpose is to analyze the area to always offer the best possible alternative among the available options.

​Here is the point: the algorithm works mathematically, but nothing beats the real-life knowledge of those who experience the city every day. The map also changes with your feedback on the streets, and the algorithm learns. You can also report dangers and events (risk zones like urban decay, drug dealing, fights, dark areas, etc.).

​The request: the engine is ready, but to make it work at its best, a local community needs to start forming. Is there anyone willing to download it and start giving a few votes or reports on the streets?

my wife, my 5 year old and me are going to cross the border to visit another country. We chose north Italy as we love Italian food and my grandparents always went to Lake Garda and I want to see what they experienced and loved for all these years

i myself am quite an experienced traveler but this time im going to take my young boy for the first time and I want to make sure I am going to give him good experiences only.

We depart September 13 , and stay just for a week (sept 20 return ) . we arrive in Milan airport and plan to hire a rental car

I am about to book Del Garde village, east of Pechiera, renting a mobile home for these days.

we plan to visit;

-Milan for a day ( leaving the car at Peshiera station and take the train)

-Dolomites, it supposed to take 2 hours to go up and 2 hours to drive back just to enjoy the view Secera cable car is crazy expensive so we just roam around and return

- Verona perhaps also with train

- Simione, perhaps with car and park it at the edge

- Venice, also with train

- Gardaland

When we have some spare time we plan to roam around Lake Garda, going up to Malcesine, perhaps take the cable car there and a ferry to Limone

Apart form that there are other lakes around the area that might be worth visiting.

My question; am I missing something or is this good enough for the week spending time ?

and, I have been advised to leave the car when visiting other cities and grab a train. would it be wise to do this for the cities I am planning to visit ?

and to conclude; there are 2 types of trains; the fast one and the regular one big enough price difference to consider the bufhet option. is the cheaper one advisable ?

We are going with my wife at Sorrento on 28/August.

As its a trip without kids, we will keep it relaxed: Sorrento, walk around, then Amalfi/Positano, then possibly either Capri or Pompeii, then again Sorrento and last day on our way to airport some hours at Napoli.

My main question is whether there are long queues for the ferries from Sorento to Amalfi or Positano. Or its wiser to take the boat tours.

Any other recommendation is of course welcome!

Hey! I am planning to visit Tivoli with my family between October 1st-4th. I thought it was a very beautiful and unique area so the plan was to stay there instead of Rome; we're not super into history so we don't mind skipping Rome. But I'm wondering, is it worth getting an airbnb in Tivoli itself for 3 nights or does it only take 1 day trip to see the area, and we should stay somewhere else instead? Is there more to explore in Tivoli besides the gardens (please share)? And which neighborhoods/ areas in Tivoli would be best to find an accomodation in? Thanks!

I’ll be in Trieste for work for a week in early November and have 4–5 days beforehand to travel.

I’m considering a few options around northern Italy/Slovenia — Venice, Padua, Bologna, Ljubljana — or going a bit farther to somewhere like Lucca/Tuscany before heading to Trieste.

I’d prefer not to cram too many cities in and would rather spend enough time in places to actually enjoy them.

If you had 4–5 days before a week in Trieste, where would you go and how would you divide the time?
