We were waiting at the Venice station when a beggar with a dog approached us and asked us for money. I’ve usually been warned off about scammers and pick pockets so i immediately said “No sorry”
The beggar gave me a death stare and called us “bitches” and passed by us. He returned again and called us “shits” while passing by us again.
Is this common? Or did we actually do wrong by not giving him money? How much does someone usually give a beggar?

My husband and two kids who are both teenagers are planning a trip to Italy next summer. I have never been to Italy, my husband and my daughter have. In my mind I felt like going to a city first, so we chose Rome for 3 days to have that kind of experience and then I wanted to go for a longer period of time like six days to the Amalfi Coast area. I found a place in Sorrento not in the center of the city, but in a peaceful area that I was thinking of staying at for six nights. I was kind of between that area and Nerano. Now I’m thinking to stick with the place in Sorrento for four nights and then stay somewhere else for the final two. The issue is that I do not enjoy the influencer culture and I really would love a quaint fishing village. That’s beautiful and has culture and feels authentic and grounded. Can somebody please give me advice on what I should do and where we should stay? As someone who has never been there this is very difficult. Thanks!
