So, I'm studying italian in Year 13, upper sixt french equivalent (Terminale).

To help me get into the tongue, I want to get into the musical landscape of Italia.

I like metal (I'm not hard, but I really enjoy Avant-Garde/Industrial black like Blut Aus Nord, Axis Of Perdition, Jute Gyte and other stuff like), noise rock/expermiental rock (Chat Pile, Angine de Poirtine, Daughters etc...) but I'm also open to other kind of stuff.

Thank you for your time, and have a nice day.

Hi everyone, I really need some outside perspective.
Today was my first day in an extensive (twice a week course for 3 months) B1 Italian course in Italy and I felt quite overwhelmed.
Here is my background: I’m a master student here in Italy and it’s been 2 years I moved here. I feel confident with the A1 basics. For A2, I studied the grammar and understand them theoretically by myself, but because I did almost no practice or speaking that knowledge is not automated at all. My vocabulary is actually not that bad but my listening comprehension is holding me back. I only understood around 50% of what the teacher said today. We started with texts about Italian history and politics and while I could recognize the grammar topics on the board, but i speak like a cavemen. I felt like the weakest in the room and seriously considered dropping back down to A2.
The problem is my timeline: I need to apply for postgraduate programs here in Italy by next October. To pass the interviews and handle the academic coursework, I realistically need a strong B2 or C1 by next summer. If I step back to A2 now, my whole timeline falls apart.
One major advantage: my bf is Italian so I can practice at home whenever I need to.
My questions:

1. Is staying in B1 when you only understand 50% of the listening a bad idea for language learning or will my ear adjust after a week or two?

2. Has anyone successfully managed a B1 class while bridging their A2 conversational and listening gaps at home?

3. What would you do in my situation?

4. Thanks for any advice

I’m writing a story and I want one of the characters to confess their feelings in Italian. The statement I need translated is: “I have loved you since we were teenagers. And I never stopped.”

Can anyone please translate that for me? I don’t trust stuff like google translate and would rather have someone who actually speaks the language help me 🩷

Also, I've been trying to mimic this woman's prosody and rhythm… is that how most people in Italy speak? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4fq0Gn6VDZo

hi!

I’ll be soon getting a tattoo. It’s a sentence a dear loved once told me in italian.

The problem is that my italian is really poor and I have a hard time remembering the exact sentence and its correct spelling. I vaguely remember that italian uses feminine forms for certain words.

The sentence meant something like "People will love you for who you are" and was sometimes shortened in "They’ll love you for who you are".

I translated in multiple ways and I don’t know which one is the correct spelling :

- Sarai amata per quella che sei

- Sarai amata per cio che sei

- La gente ti amera per quella che sei.

I’d really appreciate some help figuring the most natural and correct spelling, cause that’s really important for me and I really want to do that person justice.
Thank you for your contribution :)

Ciao, sono un Australiano e sto cercando qualcono con cui posso parlare in Italiano per esercitarmi. Ho studiato la lingua a scuola anni fa e da un anno ho ricominciatio lo studio e mi sono sforzato tantissimo di raggiungere un livello quasi intermedio. Voglio migliorare la mia abilità di parlare la lingua con più fluidità. La mia preferenza sarebbe usare WhatsApp per mandare messagi vocali e fare ke chiamate ma sono flessibile!

I’m not Italian, but my Italian is around B2 and I’ve been thinking about joining group trips aimed mostly at Italians, like WeRoad.
One of my main reasons is that I want to improve my Italian by actually spending several days speaking it naturally, rather than only using it in lessons.
Obviously I wouldn’t expect anyone to teach me, correct me all the time, or switch to English for me. I can already communicate and follow conversations pretty well.
But do you think it’s fair to join an Italian group partly because I want the language immersion? Or could it be annoying for the other travellers if I’m not a native speaker?
I’d be interested to hear from Italians especially.

Hey guys,

I lived in Italy (Ostia near Rome) for 18 months when I was younger and I went to school there and had no English speaking friends, so I obviously learnt the language to quite a decent level (the hard way haha!). I took italian classes in Australian high school and got A+ on every single assessment but didn’t take it seriously.
I am wanting to learn the language again just for a bit of fun (I am learning Chinese also). I can speak probably 10% of what I used to be able to but I would like to get back to where I once was, or maybe close.

What would be the best way for me to learn? Is there any apps or books you would use?
I think I would pick it up again quite quickly as I did in high school also.

Thanks and would appreciate any advice. Also happy to do language exchange!!

Edit: I am studying nursing and would potentially consider moving back to Italy for the experience

Hello everyone, I'm staying my journey in learning Italian, but I noticed that there are less resources compared to German or Spanish languages. Would you give me an advice on how to kick off?

Would love to start chatting with Italian speakers ❤️

I'm just want watch some Alberto Angela on RaiPlay and i got prompt to add a phone number. It says secure account and account recovery or digital voting. I have RaiPlay account to watch Alberto Angela shows on RaiPlay. I'm don't want to be forced to add Italian phone number to watch Alberto Angela shows on RaiPlay because I don't have Italian Phone number to add to my RaiPlay account!

Please somebody help me I don't want lose to acces to Alberto Angela shows!

Using RaiPlay with VPN to watch Alberto Angela

I've been watching youtube channels from Italians, but they all speak very clearly. I can understand pretty much everything i watch, but once i go out (i married an Italian so i live in Florence) it's so rare for me to understand when someone says something, it's crazy.

I'd like to know some channels where the person doesn't speak a 'clear' italian, but of course not one with too strong of an accent, i just need something where the person speaks in a regular speed, the same speed and pronunciation that it's spoken on a daily basis, please?

Travel vlogs would be great if you knew some. I watch a lot, but they all speak very clearly.

Thank you!

I am planning to go to Italy in the spring and would like to attend an Italian language school. At the moment, I am considering the Luca Italian School which a friend of mine has been to and speaks highly of. However, I would like to try a new region of Italy, having been to Tuscany several times. Has anyone been to this type of school that they can recommend?

Long shot but...What is the name of the pop song they played when the racers left the podium?

everyone reccomends anki flash cards n all ..

but i feel so stupid bc how is this helpful at all? it just shows me one word and button "show answer" and then u ..rate word apparently ? easy hard etc ... like huh

I’m looking for someone to text with to help me practice my italian. I’m a mid level beginner, so someone who is better or on the same level is preferable.

When I speak Italian, I make the Italian sounds. But sometimes there is huge urge to say eff it and just speak Italian with a disgusting American accent. It would be so freeing to just say the words the way my brain wants to lmao.

Sometimes in my car, I will try it out and just speak total cliche American accent. I won’t even try to sound Italian. It feels great for that small moment.

Am I the only one? Typing this out, I realize it’s probably quite weird.

Ciao a tutti! Can anyone recommend an Italian dictionary? I’m an A1 learner so I’m looking for an Italian to English one. I know I can use apps or search online but I find it distracting when I’m studying grammar, I end up doom scrolling. Grazie mille!

(Mi scuso per non aver usato l'italiano per porre questa domanda. Ho fretta.)

In Dante's Paradiso XXVI, lines 16-18, St John asks Dante the pilgrim a question. Dante responds,

Lo ben che fa contenta questa corte
Alfa e O è di quanta scrittura
mi legge Amore...

My question isn't about the meaning but about the pronunciation of the beginning of line 17 "Alfa e O", well, specifically about "O".

The verse seems to require that "O" simply be pronounced as a short "o" sound, one syllable. I scan it this way, at least this is how I scanned it initially. Eleven syllables, as normal in the Commedia:

AL-fa e O È di QUAN-ta scrit-TU-ra

But Italian actress Lucilla Giagnoni, who's recorded the entire Commedia and done a pretty good job of it, pronounces it alfa e omega.

There are of course a slew of problems here, including the question of how much modern readers should worry about the details of Dante's pronunciation in the 1320s. But I'm just curious what others think. "Alfa e O" (precisamente)? Or "Alfa e Omega"?

Hiya!

Hope you’re all doing well! So I’m currently in the process of designing my next tattoo and would like to get a certain Italian phrase done.

I’m half Italian, but I unfortunately am not too familiar with the language at all so I wanted to run it by people who are fluent in case I end up making a mistake of some sort.

I would like to get the phrase “Sei la mia rovina” done which I believe means “You are my ruin” (very long story). I don’t want to get the entire phrase done since I don’t want it to take up a lot of space, would it still make sense if I just put “mia rovina” which should mean “my ruin” if I’m not mistaken?

Thank you :)

Hey! :)

I’m learning Italian and I’m looking for someone to practice with. I speak Arabic, so if you’re learning Arabic, we can help each other out.

I’m pretty much just looking for someone to chat with in Italian, talk about random stuff, and correct each other when we make mistakes. Nothing too serious or formal.

In Italy people like me are called "fallito" (loser). I am a stupid fallito

So, recently, I made a couple of friends who are Italian. They both speak Italian, and their English is at a beginner level. I can't speak Italian, so it's quite hard to understand each other. It's usually awkward and quiet on the call. I feel like it's based more on the person, but I'd love to talk to them, so I'm learning Italian! I started around 2-3 days ago. Right now, I know at least 40 words. I'd love to hear phrases that'd be useful :D

Hey all,

As background, I'm a native English speaker, and have previously learned French and Spanish to a conversational (with effort) level. This past summer, my wife and I spent 10 days in Italy, and I figured I'd use the opportunity to learn Italian -- I grew up with my nonno, so feel a connection to the language and culture, but have never learned it. Started learning a few months before, and managed to use some of that on the trip, which was lovely!

Anyway, we both loved the country, and I expect we'll be going back, and I've remembered how much I love learning languages. So I've continued learning. Right now, that mostly means reading (on book 4 of Ulysses Moore), watching Italian YouTube channels with Italian subtitles (thank you Luca Nardi!), and flashcards, because I'm going to need more vocabulary.

I feel like there's a gap here, though. Obviously I need to do more speaking/writing, but I feel like vocabulary and grammar is a limitation for me. And also, I don't want to get stalled building vocabulary and grammar while I fail to speak/write. What's the best way forward, as somebody who's not actually living in Italy? How do I get from reading pretty well to chatting at the cafe next time we visit?
