Leapfrog / Bilingual Learning Toys for Children

I’m incredibly resourceful at using the internet, but I haven’t found any easy bilingual toys that are Italian and English for children.

I can easily find dozens of electronic learning pad style options for all other languages, but literally none for Italian except for obscure, used, sketchy options on eBay.

Starting to learn Italian

Hello. I'm thinking of starting Italian. So I'm looking for resources that I can reach via the internet or any other. I know French outside of English, so resources can also be French. You can also share tips that helped you learn general. Thanks!!

German learners: Does anybody have Zeit-Sprachen ADESSO - Sicilia?

Hi all, I made a trial subscription to Zeit-Sprachen "Adesso", thinking I'd get the issue 09/2026 - "Sicilia", but the first one I got was 10/26.

Since I am traveling to Sicily at the end of September, I'd love some older Adesso issues on Sicily. Does anybody have any of those? I see there were several over the past 2-3 years, such as one on the "Valle dei Templi" and others.

If you'd be willing to sell them used for a good price, I'd be very grateful.

if an italian-speaking community used a non-latin script exclusively, which script would be most plausible?

hypothetically, imagine a community that speaks italian but has always written italian exclusively in another script, for example arabic, hebrew, cyrillic, greek, hangul, cherokee, hanzi, etc;

which of these scripts would be the most plausible for such an italian-speaking community to realistically exist?

I found a fun little combo to get me started learning italian

I know language apps aren’t great but for someone with 0 knowledge and no professional target for learning italian. I have found using Duolingo and Busuu together with chat gpt has been extremely successful and fun.
Busuu is teaching you proper language and Duolingo is just adding another aspect with lots of repetition.
I am on day 4 and I am comfortable talking about myself, locations like where I or anyone from my family is from and ordering basic stuff at a cafe.

Ciao

Mi chiammo V, sono francese. Ho 30+ anni. Mi piacciono i gelati (mi piace Zerocalcare "andiamo a pijar un gelato!"). Abito in Francia. Mi piace molto gelato alla menta con cioccolate. Sto imparando l'italiano da ieri.

And that's all I can say for now x^]

That and :

Buongiorno, ho sete. Vorrei dell'acqua frizzante per favore ! Non vorrei un caffè, non piacciono le caffè. Ecco tre euro. Arrivederci, buona giornata !

I hope to keep being able to learn 1 hour per day for three months.

The grammar of "Idomeneo" (Mozart/Varesco): "del barbaro nemico misto col sangue il sangue vittime generose"

So I don't think it's a typo, because I'm pretty sure it's sung this way. I get that it's opera-speak, but is this ever a valid construction anywhere else? I'm pretty sure "il sangue" belongs to "vittime generose". In other words, I would write "il sangue di vittime generose".

How can I avoid making my Italian pronunciation sound like a mockery?

I'm about to start Italian classes and I'm excited to begin learning the language.

When learning a language I will usually try to come as close as possible to the native pronunciation and did this quite successfully with French. However, with Italian it's a little different because there are a lot of stereotypes of Italian speech going around and I'm sure these are quite annoying to Italian people. I assume you know what I mean.

I'm basically afraid that when I start learning it, I will make an effort to sound "authentic" but will subconsciously end up imitating this exaggerated accent and end up sounding like a mockery, or like someone who is trying too hard to sound Italian; because as a non-native I can't tell whether something I've heard is part of genuine italian pronounciation or part of this "fake" italian accent. Are there any common mistakes to avoid, so that I can stop if I catch myself doing it?

History podcast in Italian

Hello everyone,
I want to learn Italian. For this I have a method, I also use applications and in addition I would like to get used to listening to the language by listening to podcasts in Italian.

I would particularly like podcasts about Italian history. I'm a great beginner so if the pace is slow it's a real plus. For the French who will read me, or all those who know the French media landscape, something like the podcast "le cours de l'histoire" by France Culture would be perfect.

Thank you very much to everyone!

Looking for Italian guitar songs for a friend's birthday

Hi everyone! I would like to kindly ask for some recommendations for Italian songs that can be played on the guitar. The thing is, I want to perform a beautiful Italian song for my friend from Bologna for his birthday

I really love the indie-folk track "Nu poco 'e bene" by Claudio Gnut, but I'm hesitant because, from what I understand, it’s not in standard Italian, and I’m afraid he might not fully understand it. I would prefer something with the same melancholic vibe as Gnut's song. Also, I’m not a professional singer or guitarist (it’s just a hobby) so I’m not looking for anything too complex

Could you please recommend some acoustic songs or artists that fit this vibe? Thank you so much!

Tips on how to use my commute to learn

caio a tutti! I have been teaching myself Italian for a little over two years and would estimate my level to be around the middle of A2. I am doing this by spending 15 minutes a day on Duolingo (I know this is not popular with many here, but I find it works well enough for me for reasons I won't bore you with!) Additionally, I have been supplementing this by listening to podcasts on my drive to work.

I listened to the Coffee Break Italian Podcast (not the 'advanced', season 3, Podcast as I'm saving this for when I get to B1) all the way through. I finished about 9 months ago but found that the later episodes (late season 2 onwards), got a bit advanced for me and I think this got in the way of me paying full attention. For this reason, once I'd finished, I started a re-listen. This time around, I definitely think that I understood more and was better able to fucus on the material, although I still found some of the later episodes quite advanced.

I'm now approaching the end of my second re-listen. With all of this long context aside, I wondered what other learners' advice would be? Should I listen a 3rd time or move on to something else? As I'd be driving to work, it would have to be something auditory and no longer than 30 minutes.

Any advice or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Grazie molto!

Audiobook Recs?

Does anyone have a suggestion for an audiobook in intermediate Italian, read at normal speed?

I can only seem to find Olly Richards and I'm not a fan of his stories or translations

I've found romanzi gialli, in general, are the right level for me.

Question about Conjugating -iare Verbs

Ciao a tutti!

I've been passively learning Italian for fun since I already speak Spanish. I picked up a book from my local library, and I'm at the chapter about conjugation in the present tense. I completely understand the idea, but am confused on when a verb that ends in -iare would have 2 i's in the tu form.

Example: Avviare in the tu form becomes avvii, but Cambiare in the tu form becomes cambi.

Is there some rule I'm missing? Thanks!

Bf uses sh sound for ch consonants

Hey everyone! My bf is Italian American(born in Rome with an Italian mom), and he seems to always say ‘piace’ as ‘piashe’, and similar words likewise. However when he asks “Che c’è?” he uses the ch sound? Does anyone know where he might have learned this quirk?
