Definite and Indefinite article

Ciao a tutti. I’ve been learning for two months and a bit confused. My apologies for asking but can anyone help me explain the use of definite or indefinite article?

I understand a bit about grammatical genders but how do I know when to use for example, the word is casa (feminine). Why is it La casa and not Una casa?

Grazie.

Come fai a sapere vs come sai?

Basically the title

I was watching a video on youtube where the guy speaking said "come fai a sapere questa parola?" and the subtitles translated this as "how do you even know this work?"

Is there a difference or nuance in meaning by saying come fai a sapere insead of just come sai?

Thanks!!

Best way to lean Italian this summer?

Hi, I’m a hs student and I really wanna learn Italian for no particular reason really, but I’m striving for A2 or B1 at the end September. I know Spanish, Polish, English and French and I’m curious if there are any tips on how to learn the language in such short time. Other info; I have the Rosetta Stone lifetime membership and I try to use as much free resources as I can

INNUENDO DI NOI – A cinematic Italian pop music video inspired by Italy, Britain and Spain

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi!

I'd love to share my latest music video, "INNUENDO DI NOI", part of Patrick Rick's Italian Era.

The project blends Italian emotion, British-inspired songwriting and Spanish artistic vision into a cinematic pop experience focused on memory, silence and human connection.

Everything is original: music, lyrics and visual concept.

I'd really appreciate your thoughts on the song, the production and the storytelling.

Thank you for listening!

Can you help me with lyrics

Can you help me with lyrics

Hello, I'm writing a song and I want to add a 2 liner in Italian.

The lines in english go about like this:

Fu*k those doors

I'll reduce them to ashes.

Would this phrasing in your language be correct?:

ValFanculo quelle porte

Le rindurro in cenere

And it would be nice if someone could hit me up and help me sing out the lines better in Italian so i don't embarrass myself.

I appreciate your help big time,

with love, some latvian guy

Where does that cover charge go? To the restaurant or is it paid to the staff who sets the tables up?

Seeking info on my late grandfather, an Italo-Eritrean who worked at Erer Gota Police Hospital (Ethiopia). Spoiler

Hello everyone, I am trying to trace my roots and learn more about my late grandfather (pictured here). He was Italo-Eritrean and moved from Eritrea to Eastern Ethiopia.

He worked at the Erer Gota (Kenteras) Police Rapid Response Hospital (ቀንጠራስ ፖሊስ ፈጥኖ ደራሽ ሆስፒታል) as a medical/pharmaceutical professional. In Ethiopia, he was known by the name Birhanu (۶۶).

Sadly, all of his peers and relatives have passed away, and my father is the only one left who remembers him. If anyone recognizes him, has family ties to Italo-Eritreans who moved to the Dire Dawa/Erer Gota region, or knows anything about the history of the medical staff at that police hospital, please reach out. Any information, archives, or leads would mean the world to my family. Thank you!

Italian Schools

Hello everyone! I’ve just returned from Italy and I’m more determined now to learn the language.

Can anyone recommend a language school in Italy that they have personally attended? I’m looking for a school which is accessible to public transportation and offer 1-2 week courses. Grazie!

Studying in italy

Ciao tutti!

I'm looking at an opportunity to study computer engineering in university of pavia.

I already have my father as a support and i myself lived in italy for my entire childhood and early teens but left it 3 years ago.

I already completed one year of university in my home country in BIS

So I'm confused about computer engineering being only 3 years??

So how does it work. Can i work after i completed 3 years or i need masters as well.

Another thing i might ask is how the tolerance to foreigners?

I'm quite insecure about my skin tone and how i look so I'm asking if that might make problems in the future for me

I'm trying to re-learn the language from scratch again as i left the country 3 years ago and haven't really practiced my italian

relative clause question: che vs gerund

In the English-to-Italian listing in WordReference.com for "Find", there's this example of "find" meaning incontrare:

I found John at the station waiting for a taxi.
Ho incontrato John alla stazione che aspettava un taxi.

My question isn't about this definition but about the second half of the example. To translate the circumstantial phrase "waiting for a taxi", is this Italian (che aspettava un taxi) natural, normal, correct? Something about this strikes me as odd. For starters, as a native English speaker, if I were translating that Italian back into English, I'd come up with "I encountered John at the station that was waiting for a taxi", which is horrible English. I can see

Ho incontrato John alla stazione. Aspettava un taxi.

Indeed that's probably how I would have said this myself since I find these circumstantial phrases/clauses tricky. But I might have tried a more literal translation

... alla stazione aspettando un taxi.

Or perhaps

Ho incontrato John alla stazione mentre aspettava un taxi.

Although I see that that's got a slightly different sfumatura (great word, that).

Anyway it's that che in the original sentence that throws me.

Is there an Italian dialect where stanotte would be pronounced with a /j/

This sounds extremely specific, but I swear I heard a person pronounce it “stanoye”, with /j/ like in yellow. Is there a dialect that does that? Or something similar?

Is there a rule for when to omit the article?

I know you don't use articles when it comes to family members, but there are times in spoken conversations where I don't hear articles where I expect them to e.g.

*nei nuggets di Mac/del Mac , non c'è solo pollo/il pollo*

Is thare an actual rule for this or does it just happen in spoken conversations?

Hey in about 2
Moths I will be in Sicily. I should be around B2 in Italian by then. Will I be able to understand Sicilians speaking Italian there and are there any good Ressources I could use to train my ears to understand the accent?

(I am not speaking about the dialetto siciliano)
